Sharon Stone Calls Out Sex Scenes for Becoming ‘Blatant, Harsh’ and Leaving Nothing to the Imagination: ‘I Fast Forward. I Don’t Want to See It’
Sharon Stone fast forwards through sex scenes because they have become too "harsh" and "blatant" and leave nothing to the imagine.

I wonder if she'd change her mind after seeing a tasteful sex scene.... like in The Room.

Fantastic comment.

That may be true, but also, people change, perspectives change. She could simply be speaking in hindsight. Despite the success it brought her, perhaps it also brought her a lot of pain, and maybe she is thinking it wasn't worth it.
32
MRintheKEYS Apr 4, 2026 +11
TBF, it was a body double for most of her scenes.
11
dinosaurkiller Apr 4, 2026 +7
And I suppose she was duped into being in an e***** sex thriller. They changed the entire script after she signed on, originally it was a comedy! Body double or no, she knew exactly what she signed up for.
7
rapscallionrodent Apr 3, 2026 +269
It's ironic because I remember when Basic Instinct came out and THAT scene was all that was talked about, Katherine Hepburn referring to Sharon Stone said: "It’s a new low for actresses when you have to wonder what’s between her ears instead of her legs.”
269
Cambot1138 Apr 3, 2026 +70
And the two other very explicit sex scenes in that movie.
70
_LyleLanley_ Apr 3, 2026 +80
Yeah, notoriously they did that without her consent. That’s now a really bad take.

Shot-Possibility-399 Apr 3, 2026 +14
Plenty of fiber sex scenes in that movie though

Nothing gets me hotter than when they break out the Metamucil. That taste, that color, that slightly slimy stuff left at the bottom of the glass….it’s all just so f****** e*****.
35

And then, now that Metamucil can be found in a biscuit format? Mmmmmmm.

F u, I literally googled for “Basic instinct metamucil” and nothing came up, I didn’t know what Metamucil is
2
rapscallionrodent Apr 4, 2026 +2
I’m guessing I’m not the person you meant to rely to, because I have no idea what you’re talking about.
2
Natural_Tea484 Apr 4, 2026 +2
You seem to be needing Metamucil, you have difficulty with understanding threads.
2
rapscallionrodent Apr 4, 2026 +2
Listnook must need it because your reply to the other guy turned up in my mailbox.
2
Quixotic_Seal Apr 4, 2026 +5
They’re sending replies to other people’s posts into people’s inboxes, presumably for increased engagement. It’ll say something like “Soandso replied to Soandso on your comment.” Incredibly annoying and frustrating and I hope we can turn it off someday, but considering I’m replying after getting one of these in my own inbox….I guess effective. (Also for anyone confused about Metamucil: it’s a pun. The person I replied to wrote “fiber love scenes” as a typo, and I ran with it. Metamucil is a daily fiber supplement.)
5
rapscallionrodent Apr 4, 2026 +2
Thanks for the explanation about the mailboxes. That’s annoying as hell. I’ll have to pay closer attention to the exact wording when the notices arrive.
2
RejectingBoredom Apr 3, 2026 +19
She claims it was without her consent, it’s pretty much a he said/she said like Kim Kardashian and Ray J. And I don’t think Kim Kardashian’s denials would be enough to genuinely sway you that she had no idea about the tape’s release.

Sharon Stone was famously tricked into doing that scene. She didn’t know it would be shot like that.
-2
Morningfluid Apr 3, 2026 +56
If she didn't she wouldn't have had her underwear off. It would have easily been shot from a different angle and not directly in front of her, which the camera was.
56
Old-Library5546 Apr 3, 2026 +41
Yeah, she knew the camera angle

She was not wearing underwear, wearing a short dress, and had a camera on her. Come on, now!
38
Former-Whole8292 Apr 4, 2026 +1
I think it’s possible that she didnt know it would be that explicit and that the camera would film around that area, like so many films do.

What scene???
0
MenStefani Apr 4, 2026 +2
There is an infamous scene in the film Basic Instinct where Sharon Stone spreads her legs wearing a short dress and she has no underwear on. You see her full vag and bush
2
Natural_Tea484 Apr 4, 2026 +4
She probably refers to the fact that today movies are too much only about sex. Even that scene in Basic Instinct, although explicit, is well done.
4
BigMack6911 Apr 4, 2026 -1
Was a nice bush scene
-1
walrusbwalrus Apr 4, 2026 +70
Maybe I’m just watching a much different cadre of films but I feel like sex scenes are much less frequent and often tamer than the 80’s and 90’s. Caveat, I’m sure that Stone sees vastly more films than I do and I’m usually at least 5 years late to any cultural moment, so maybe in 5 years when I get around to it my mind will be blown.
70
OneSeaworthiness7768 Apr 4, 2026 +37
I think it’s more so in streaming series than movies. I definitely don’t think it’s gotten tamer.
37
Forward-Cat6083 Apr 4, 2026 +3
Like, what series’s are you talking about? Not ones designed for men, because I can’t think of the last time there was a gratuitous sex scene in something I watched.
3
mrsyanke Apr 4, 2026 +11
I stopped watching The Witcher pretty quickly because of unnecessary sex scenes. Idk if “gratuitous” is the right word, but completely unnecessary…
11
Forward-Cat6083 Apr 4, 2026 +1
Ok, definitely agree with this one. The whole book series is very chauvinistic. The games are too. It can be a little cringey.
1
BearGotBack Apr 4, 2026 +5
Euphoria is one, for sure. I fast forwarded the sex scenes because even though the actors were all 18+, I still felt uncomfortable watching “high schoolers” have raunchy, sometimes abusive sex.
5
Forward-Cat6083 Apr 4, 2026
Yeah? Kinda my point that all the sex heavy stuff is now in series produced for women, unlike how it was when I was growing up. Like there used to be a gratuitous sex scene in every action flick, and I can’t think of one that has them anymore. So it really feels like Sharon Stone is complaining about women being degraded by other women for other women.
0
OneSeaworthiness7768 Apr 4, 2026 +4
“I haven’t seen it so it doesn’t exist” is such a weird response.
4
Jqshipp Apr 4, 2026 +2
They did ask for an example though. Lol
2
Forward-Cat6083 Apr 4, 2026 +3
That doesn’t answer my question. Feels like your lack of ability to pull an example reinforces my point!
3
MetaCognitio Apr 4, 2026 -1
Sex scenes are pointless now. They were titillating previously but we’re desensitized because far more graphic and gratuitous content is a tap away. Who is really interested in watching two actors dry hump each other and hide their genitals anymore?
-1
mazzicc Apr 4, 2026 +36
It’s very rare that a sex scene adds anything to the plot that cannot be achieved with a fade-to-black. There are certain types of movies and shows where it is important to the theme/setting/plot, such as the gay hockey show, or a romance movie that’s supposed to get you riled up. But most movies and shows can just have two characters come together, start touching and kissing, and fade out, and it would be just as good as a the drawn out scene with added complexity and cost shooting an intimate scene has these days.
36
Seedeemo Apr 4, 2026 +49
I don’t know about her reasons, but I usually fast forward too because they almost never add anything to the story and they are damn boring to boot.
49
ShiftyShankerton Apr 4, 2026 +15
It's just usually awkward, too.
15
MetaCognitio Apr 4, 2026 +1
The internet has desensitized us. It’s boring now when there is far more graphic content easily accessible.
1
Seedeemo Apr 6, 2026 +1
Maybe, but that doesn’t make gratuitous sex scenes in films any less boring in my opinion.
1
MetaCognitio 6 days ago +1
No it makes them even more boring! If I wanted to see sex, I can see far more of better quality compared to movie sex.

That's the irony. Her most infamous role/scene was flashing her bits in Basic Instinct. Unheard of at that time, and now, for a mainstream actress.
23
eagles_1987 Apr 3, 2026 +16
That's not a sex scene though, while that's explicit that's not the same argument that she's making
16
Barloq Apr 3, 2026 -3
You clearly have not seen Basic Instinct.
-3
eagles_1987 Apr 3, 2026 +5
I have and they are referencing the specific interrogation scene which I believe is not a sex scene since it's an interrogation
5
Barloq Apr 3, 2026 +3
Ok well then you are aware that she's got multiple sex scenes that are exactly what she's criticizing here, just not this one, specific scene that's most famous.
3
eagles_1987 Apr 3, 2026 +11
I'm aware, I was referencing the specific comment the person made about that specific scene That being said she's not saying that there shouldn't ever be explicit nudity in a film or sex scenes in a film, but that they should be done in a way that's still s*** and e***** versus just forceful. The way hers were, even though hers were showing more than the average
11

That was not a sex scene. It was a scene that showed a body part.
3
dance4days Apr 3, 2026 +1
Wasn’t she tricked into that though? I remember Sharon Stone coming out later and saying she’d been told not to wear underwear because of panty lines, and didn’t see that everything was shown onscreen until she saw the movie.

25
eunoiascorpio Apr 3, 2026 +26
Did she not have her kitty out in Basic Instinct?
26
bluerose297 Apr 4, 2026 +12
That scene is pretty much the opposite of "leaving nothing to the imagination." It's a blink and you miss it moment from an otherwise fully clothed woman that had teens going "wait, was that...?" and having to buy the VHS tape and trying to pause it at just the right moment. It's also just a great, revealing character beat for basically everyone in the scene. It's sort of the perfect example of how sexuality in a film can be engaging for artistic reasons, not lazy ones, and does not IMO make for a good counter-argument to what Sharon's saying here.
12
Sensitive-Office-705 Apr 4, 2026 +13
Regardless, that was not a sex scene. I just saw a show with a woman getting out of a bathtub. It wasn’t a sex scene. It was nudity. Totally different.
13
jostyouraveragejoe2 Apr 3, 2026 +20
Allegedly Verhoeven told her that her underwear was reflective or some shit and that she should take it off, so what's she is saying that she was tricked into doing the scene that way.
20
Khromecowboy Apr 3, 2026 +38
Yes but she also lied about being in Mensa so I’m thinking she’s prone to fibs.

princecutter Apr 4, 2026 +3
Honestly I can't think of any movie I've seen where the sex scene actually added something to the plot. The exception is the big Lebowski but that doesn't even have a sex scene, it has a right after sex scene
3
arthousepsycho Apr 5, 2026 +3
I feel like unless the film is actually about sex, it is kind of unnecessary. I’d feel weird writing a sex scene into a script that didn’t call for it because unlike a sex scene in a book or a game or something, you are specifically asking a real actress to pretend to have sex in front of a room full of people and then have everyone watch it maybe on a big ass screen with a room full of strangers. It’s a weird thing to ask of someone when you think about it. You can just as easily imply sex without showing it. Good example of that in Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die. Got some brief moaning over the visual of springs inside the bed, then cut to the people just lying back afterwards. All that said tho, I don’t have a problem with it, people should be welcome to write and act out whatever they like as long as everyone involved is ok with it.

1
ForwardLove8350 Apr 4, 2026 +6
I agree with her on that. Watching a “full on” sex scene is weird for me to watch as well, it feels intrusive. Sex scenes don’t play fair, if we watch these people be intimate, why all of the sudden do they cover up with a sheet or put on underwear. Nobody does that. It doesn’t actually ad anything to script itself either.
6
throwtheclownaway20 Apr 3, 2026 +12
Just to point out, her story has pretty much always been that she was manipulated/lied to about the infamous leg-crossing scene. TL;DR the director told her the framing of the shot would mean the nudity was implied and, when she wore panties on the day of shooting, he convinced her to take them off by saying the fabric was reflecting light onto the camera. So, given that, it's not really a case of her "pulling up the ladder behind her" with these comments.
12
mackerelscalemask Apr 4, 2026 +2
Must have been a real shock for her at the premiere, I guess she didn’t complain at the time, at least not publicly? I’m surprised she didn’t demand the scene got pulled
2
Cowql8r Apr 4, 2026 +5
“The fabric was reflecting light on the camera”?! Then put on a different color. Are we 12 here-such a copout.
5
spinbutton Apr 4, 2026 +2
Depending on the fabric of the dress another color could easily show through the material.
2
AlabamaSlammaJamma Apr 3, 2026 +5
I do the same. Don’t care for sex scenes in movies at all.
5
InternationalMood337 Apr 4, 2026 +7
Sadly, I think this speaks a lot about American culture more than anything else. Sex scenes, enhance relationship relationships between characters or at least they used to. People in the United States don’t seem to understand relationships anymore. Romantic relationships include physical intimacy, and often complicate things. It’s essential for the human experience and for storytelling.
7
HussingtonHat Apr 3, 2026 +11
When did we get so prudish? If p*** can be funny I don't see why overindulgent sex scenes can't be. Just laugh at them! Wheres this "ewwww" feeling coming from?
11

8
HussingtonHat Apr 4, 2026 +12

12
TheeJestersCurse Apr 4, 2026 +2
exactly, i'm so glad there's at least someone else who gets this
2
HussingtonHat Apr 4, 2026
Damn skippy! Favourite funny p*** go! Mine is one I can't find anymore. A chick banging a dude in a pterodactyl suit, only there was a pterodactyl puppet in the foreground going "CACAWWW!" Funniest shit I've ever seen. Favourite funny sex scene go! The Room is tempting, but I'll go with MacGruber banging a ghost lady. Yeah it's meant to be funny but the logic applies to almost every sex scene so lol.
0
naszalutka Apr 4, 2026 +6
I agree with her. The sex scenes are vulgar because they lack any believable emotional connection. If that’s what people want to watch they should watch p***. I can’t take another scene of throwing her/him against the wall or on the kitchen table.
6

2

2
[deleted] Apr 5, 2026 +2
Agreed. It’s gone too far for tv. Even some crime shows are going to far showing the acts of crime. It’s too much creepy at times. She had a scandalous blip in an R rated movie one time. That doesn’t negate her point about television.
2
downtownfreddybrown Apr 3, 2026 +9
I think showing pubes is pretty blatant no?
9
grisly256 Apr 3, 2026 +4
In seriousness, love scenes should be more common than violence in every media. People should watch healthy relationships that include making love.
4
YenneferWho Apr 3, 2026 +7
I was complaining about this the other day when watching bridgerton- I get that it’s technically smut/soft core - and bridgerton can get away with it for that reason, but I really don’t understand why they’ve become so obsessed with over the top lengthy sex scenes. I remember back in the day they’d just show people slowly going out of frame and you can kinda conclude what’s happening. I just want to watch something with ppl around that doesn’t make everyone uncomfortable
7
Vegemyeet Apr 4, 2026 +3
Same! It just got irritating, and the last season felt as though it was a bit short on substance, so they decided to pad it out with twenty minutes of humping…
3
Thebat87 Apr 3, 2026 +4
I swear it feels like I’ve seen less sex scenes than I did when I was younger, and way less harsh too. At least when it’s a consensual man and woman sex scene anyway. I’ve been thinking the lGBT ones have become more intense and hotter compared to the straight ones that feel a little timid to me.

entertainment news has ruined movies altogether. theres no mystique anymore. movie magic is what first year film students try to achieve then abandon completely once they have their style cut out for them. its got no teeth, and everything is superficially safe. blockbusters are dead, the mcu needs to die, and those old resurrected-by-a-major-corporation franchises can never compare to their original works. for that matter, there is no originality left, they keep remaking old films and rebooting films to make original stories seem that much more rare and impactful than they are.

This seems to be the way with this older generation of entertainers. I just read recently that Chaka Khan said singers that do the most physicalities on stage are just covering up bad vocals, and SHE wasn't a visual spectacle. Mmhmm okay. Or maybe some people like to be fully entertained and don't always want to pay a bunch of money to see someone be whatever she considers "classy." Sharon Stone paved the way for s*** shit in movies and now she's all bitter that it's progressed and not everyone is a prude about it.

I don't think they've gotten any more gratuitous or revealing. It's been this way since the 60s when the Hays Code was let go. The one benefit of today's sex scenes is that they are often shot using a scene coordinator who makes sure that the actors are comfortable with everything and advocate for them in all aspects of shooting the scenes.

Methinks the lady doth detest European cinema at-large. No, let me try again. Ahem. Methinks the lady doth detest being sexually exploited as a child on screen. /uj Well anyways, depends on the project. But I do wonder her thoughts about French cinema. Some movies that come to mind, The Piano Teacher, Fat Girl, Murmur of the Heart for instance.
