I don't blame them. I can think of a million places I'd rather be, than on a giant oil tanker in a mined Straight of Hormuz, with opposing militaries staring at me.

There's a very narrow passage that has always been open if Iran wanted to let you through that isn't mined. It's incredibly close to land so blowing you away from there would be trivial for them if the "wrong" ships tried passing through.
