I've watched the original netflix shows but I had no interest in born again season 1 from what I read about it.
however season 2 has got me interested in it again after seeing it's trailer and the positive reception.
can I go into it while skipping season 1 and just watch a recap or is it recommended I sit too though season 1 first?
No you can’t skip season 1, and I would form your own opinions seeing as you liked the Netflix version enough to watch it all

I think the discourse around season 1 are super overblown.
It's not perfect and you can really tell that it was duct taped together at times, but it's not this terrible mess that you have to "sit through". I think it's still a solid season, and it only gets better as season 2 builds off of what worked.
Furthermore, season 2 continues from the direction and story season 1 sets up. You cannot skip it.

Season one is almost a miracle for how watchable it really is, they not only made the brand new episodes (1, 8, and 9), but interspersed many new scenes filmed after the original batch (notably any scenes with Vanessa as they had a different actress before). I just wish that episode 1 was more overt with time skips, Fisks mayoral run feels super short, but it's okay to me because it is more interesting to have him be mayor
I also think that the original episodes weren't bad, and they were actually pretty good in their own rights. The White Tiger episodes were damn good, had good twists for a legal case and Matt's ballsiest move outing Hector. Episode 4 was a great exploration of how the systems Matt wants to leave crime fighting to are being rotted and not working as intended anymore, and the bank heist episode stood as the only one untouched and it was just a fun romp, controversial one but it was nice to have a little one off before the rest of the season unfolded.
I think episodes 6 and 7 were actually the weakest, the biggest missed potential was how little Muse actually was present, I think he should have had more scenes sprinkled in previous episodes to build his menace more, but that fight in episode 6 (which was a total reshoot) was the best fight in the season.
Season 2 is firing on all cylinders, but it wouldn't be hitting as hard without season one as the backdrop, even with its unfocused plotting. From reviewers who have seen the whole season, season 2 seems to stick the landing so all in all it feels worth it to stick through the whole show.

If you're treating it like a chore I probably wouldn't bother.

You can't watch season 2 without watching season 1, it's basically a direct continuation not a self enclosed story. It would be like flipping half-way through a book and starting there.

There's no point in watching season 2 if you're skipping 1

There are fundamental things you need to know from season 1 for season 2. From minute 1 to last minute.
There's episodes like the bank heist with stuff from before the reshoots that you can skip. But at the very least you need to watch some key scenes for the old & new characters

While the bank heist might not be important for plot, it's still a great episode. It's still worth checking out if you just like to see heist stories.

Season 2 is only better than season 1 because of the fight scenes. I acrually enjoyed the plot of season 1 better. If you just want to see some cool fight scenes yes I'd recommend season 2. You don't even need to do anything but see the recap they show before the first episode 1.
People highly exaggerate how important it is to watch every single episode or something. Especially funny when season 2 starts with a time slip and doesn't bother to explain much of what happened during the time skip at all. Which I found pretty underwhelming as I was hyped about how season 1 ended. Feels like an annoying way to have punisher be AWOL.

Watch it all, it’s as good as it ever was

I wouldn't skip season 1 but you could get away with a recap if you wanted to.
Personally, I don't think Born Again has reached the heights of the Netflix show. I ended up dropping season 2 after 2 episodes. There's not enough time in the day to stick with shows that I'm not enjoying.

I think you’d be okay with skipping, there is a recap before Seadon 2 starts. But you’d be doing yourself a disservice.
2 definitely seems to have a better direction than 1, that was famously rewritten and reshot to Hell, but there’s still a lot to love about that first season.
You’ve probably heard about the Bank Episode. It just appears halfway through with a very different tone and a lot of MCUnification. But I still enjoyed it and with the whole season out you’re welcome to skip it.

Season 1 is awful. Easily the worst of the MCU shows.
I haven't tried season 2.

For me it dethroned Falcon and the Winter Soldier as the worst. Opinions, I guess.

There's no way it could be anywhere near as bad as Secret Invasion.

Considering I only found Loki worth watching while the few others I watched were passable or mediocre (Wanda/winter soldier+falcon and few episodes of others.) I may have to pass on daredevil.

The best one is Agatha All Along imo. It's actually episodic and has some genuinely very well written episodes.
The rest are varying levels of good-to-mediocre but they're mostly forgettable. They're many levels below the original Netflix Marvel shows.
