It's the best work he's done in decades and you can see him really getting into it. One of the best shows on tv at the moment.

Brett Goldstein talked about going to Ford's house to talk about working on Shrinking. He said Harrison held up the pages for the first couple of episodes and said, "This is one of the best scripts I've ever read!" His response was, "You do know you were Indiana Jones, right?"
689
Edwardteech Apr 14, 2026 +242
He said what he said.

Ascarea Apr 14, 2026 +238
> His response was, "You do know you were Indiana Jones, right?" That sort of thinking is probably what Ford is completely fed up with and why he often phones in his performances. People have been continuously worshipping him for stuff he did 40-50 years ago and still giving him those same roles. No wonder he doesn't give a f***.

Xilthas Apr 14, 2026 +114
Harrison Ford adores Indiana Jones, that's probably one role he doesn't mind people blowing smoke up his arse for.
114
iNsAnEHAV0C Apr 15, 2026 +55
His character was literally humming the Indiana jones theme in one of the episodes. You are absolutely right.
55
Jackski Apr 15, 2026 +9
His last line of the season was a reference as well.

appletinicyclone Apr 14, 2026 +61
I don't think it's that deep It's okay to have peaked as a actor early on And the fun of shrinking is only because of all that earned love for Harrison for those early roles of Indy and of han
61
Cakebeforedeath Apr 14, 2026 +19
Doesn't negate what you're saying but TIL Harrison Ford was 39 when Raiders came out so probably didn't feel like peaking early to him
19
Ascarea Apr 14, 2026 +21
> It's okay to have peaked as a actor early on whether or not it's okay has nothing to with whether or not he's tired of it though

DaHolk Apr 14, 2026 +2

Poor Harrison Ford. Such a shame that an actor gets praised for his work. It's so sad he got everything he ever wanted. I wish people would stop praising him for starring in the biggest movie franchises ever. Thank goodness you are so elevated that you see Mr Ford for the ARTIST he is.

MidgetQB Apr 14, 2026 +6
Did he say "I know."?
6
jekelish3 Apr 13, 2026 +788
100%. I know it's a cliche to say that Harrison has been phoning in performances for years, but it's also pretty true. And Shrinking is the most engaged I've seen him with ANY material since, like... the '90s. Legitimately. He seems to genuinely love working on the show and is having actual fun, and enjoying the fact that he gets to be playful.
788
Weed_O_Whirler Apr 14, 2026 +134
What bums me out about how bad Rise of Skywalker is, is that Ford's awesome performance is forgotten. He did it for Carrie, and you could tell. He crushed his one scene.
134
griffinisms Apr 14, 2026 +50
this is so f****** true actually, I remember the first time i saw it i did tear up a bit. fuckin shame the rest of it yknow.

DeafinitelyCool Apr 14, 2026 +24
I know the scene is just a retread of the one in TFA but it's definitely the best scene in the whole movie. Paired with Driver, who was the best actor in the trilogy. I honestly wish the scene was written more like the scene he had with Jimmy in the season finale.

Old-Way-5529 Apr 14, 2026 +8
it sucks bc you know a version of that was meant for carrie, but harrison went in there and showed folks why he has the reputation he has also go watch witness folks, thats peak harrison ford
8
Arizona_Pete Apr 13, 2026 +467
I don't know if he was 'phoning it in' so much as he was totally typecast. He's great at the gruff everyman who points at people indignantly, put he's played that part for 50 years. It's great seeing him *actually act* and express emotion other than seething. Turns out he's really good at it.

Krinks1 Apr 14, 2026 +104
Man, that episode where he finally talks about his Parkinson's at Thanksgiving was a trear-jerker. This show is fantastic. It's the kind of show I like best: VERY funny but also VERY moving. I felt very similar with Reservation Dogs.

Try Ted Lasso
52
ToSeeAgainAgainAgain Apr 14, 2026 +39
Also Schitt's Creek or The Good Place or Kim's Convenience! All of them are 50% lmao-worthy and 50% tear-jerkers/moving

Schitts Creek is a slow burn… it took me a season and a half to care about the Roses

It has such a fantastic emotional depth and maturity. The way the writers cover such heavy topics as death, loss, grieving, etc. with a level of care and nuance rarely seen, while also peppering in the right amount of comedy to lift the mood a little without cheapening the emotional moments is really some top tier work.
2
chewie2357 Apr 14, 2026 +2
Some people on Listnook like to shit on Rocky Gervais, but I think Afterlife walked this line very well. I think in general Ricky (and Steve Merchant) do a very good job of being funny and sentimental at the same time.

You’re not wrong. I was just listening to the Blank Check podcast’s new episode about Witness that just came out yesterday and they touched on this a bit. It feels a little more like people have always tried to put Ford into very specific boxes, and at some point, he just threw up his hands and went with it, but any time he gets a chance to flex his acting muscles with material that’s a little unexpected, he tends to crush it because it just seems to reinvigorate him.
86
moderatorrater Apr 14, 2026 +39
He really rawdogged some of those other projects by not giving his all.
39
Arizona_Pete Apr 14, 2026 +26

One of my favourite Ford movies is Regarding Henry (1991). He played that gruff character who has a medical reason to become very vulnerable. It’s a shame those parts were more rare, but am glad Shrinking is giving him a chance to again display how capable he is.
31
DeviantDav Apr 14, 2026 +12
"Get this man some Ritz crackers!" I f****** LOVE Regarding Henry.
12
peepeeinthepotty Apr 14, 2026 +8
Yep - great movie. Sabrina is an underrated movie for him too.
8
CreativeGeniusPRBKR Apr 14, 2026 +13
I liked him in Blade Runner 2049, and I think he did a good job in age of Adaline!
13
YakResident_3069 Apr 14, 2026 +3
He played it different in apocalypse now.
3
saposapot Apr 14, 2026 +3
An actor can only be as good as his material. He chooser those jobs or was only given those jobs that don’t really exercise his skills. As the opposite, his material on Shrinking is pretty good and he’s nailing it
3
CunningWizard Apr 14, 2026 +99
It reminds me of Gary Oldman on Slow Horses. Older acting legends finding an unexpected passion project in their retirement years and throwing themselves fully into it.
99
CompetitiveProject4 Apr 14, 2026 +53
He's so great as Lamb that I sometimes wonder if he just rolls out of bed after filming the last episode to do the next. He's a little too good at giving zero shits looking the definition of unkempt and a bit drunk
53
sundayfundaybmx Apr 14, 2026 +33
I went from thinking "if I met Gary Oldman, I bet he'd smell like sandalwood or some other musk" to "if I met Gary Oldman, I bet he'd smell". All based upon Slow Horses, lol.
33
CunningWizard Apr 14, 2026 +18
He does look like he *stinks*. Funny thing is apparently on set all the products they use to make him look nasty apparently make him smell really pleasant.
18
sundayfundaybmx Apr 14, 2026 +11
Well whatever they're doing, it works. It's probably one of if not my favorite role of his so far.
11
cire1184 Apr 14, 2026 +5
That's just Gary Oldman
5
YakResident_3069 Apr 14, 2026 +5
I love his range. Remember his role as the black wannabe reggae drug dealer in true romance?
5
GusTTSHowbiz214 Apr 14, 2026 +4
The embodiment is so good. It’s like how I absolutely HATED Charles Miner on the office played by Idris Elba, before I knew who he was. I hated him because of how freaking good Idris is. Idris also holds the title for my favorite line from a movie. When Thor disobeys his father and heads to earth he tells Heimdall that he “has no plans to die today” and Heimdall responds with utter gravitas “none do”.
4
favorite_time_of_day Apr 14, 2026 +17
Did you see Indiana Jones 5? He was doing all of the acting. I've never in the past thought of him as a great actor, but he has definitely gotten better over time.
17
ExcaliburZSH Apr 14, 2026 +5
> phoning it in It is kind of his style in his big movies, he is not a scenery chewer. Look at Han Solo and Indy, he rarely yells, he is never crying. He confesses love and complains about Nazi’s with mostly the same tone of voice. Ford is the cool, calm and collected guy.
5
MaynardIsLord721 Apr 14, 2026 +3

3
TL10 Apr 14, 2026 +3
He was pretty great in [42.](https://youtu.be/hwaLBeDQCWc?si=eboZO3Y_op74Vt7B) He actually got a role where he could modulate his voice and inhabit a character that wasn't just some gruff guy.
3

All because Jason Segel had a nice d***. 😎
3
LordMimsyPorpington Apr 14, 2026 +3
Harrison Ford may phone in performances, but I can't say I've ever seen him give a bad performance. Like Michael Caine or Eric Roberts, Ford treats acting like a job and delivers the goods.
3
Lucifer-Prime Apr 13, 2026 +52
It really is the best we’ve seen from him but I genuinely think it’s only because I can’t think of a single other thing he’s ever been in that has called for this much range. If this is the last thing we ever seen him do, it very well may be the best. Edit: also… F*** Parkinson’s.
52
No_Accountant3232 Apr 14, 2026 +7
Honestly go through his filmography from the 80s and 90s that isn't just Star wars or Indy Jones related. There are some really good films in there. The Mosquito Coast, Witness, and Regarding Henry are all fantastic and many more too!

Oscar nomination for Witness. It’s a great film.

By far their weakest season but Ford was amazing. Only reason I kept watching.
68
My-username-is-this Apr 13, 2026 +32
I was watching for Ford and Michael J Fox.
32
Financial-Barnacle79 Apr 14, 2026 +16
Yeah I was hoping for more of this. When the season debuted, the press was really hyping up Fox but I was kinda bummed with how little screen time he got.
16
My-username-is-this Apr 14, 2026 +8
He’s still as charming as hell, but they gave his character very little to do.
8
Lfsnz67 Apr 14, 2026 +12
That may be due to Fox though
12
DwarfDrugar Apr 14, 2026 +7
Most likely. I can't imagine they had a Parkinson's storyline, got Michael J Fox in on it, and then said "Nah, three scenes this season is enough". Fox was excellent in the scenes he was in, but also in *very* rough shape. It was probably a time/energy thing.
7
LegendaryOutlaw Apr 14, 2026 +4
Oh damn, i had forgotten he was even in this season by the finale. He really only had a small handful of scenes and not much of an ongoing storyline. I'm sure it was more because of his physical limitations than not having anything good to do with the character. It was nice to see him acting but yeah, it was a very very small role this season.
4
cire1184 Apr 14, 2026 +14
I was watching for Jessica Williams. She is fiiiiine.

I feel like its the Ted Lasso syndrome (same writer). It suffered from the exact same problem, an aggressive over-positive 'no stakes' progression. It's like the reverse of normal TV shows (where the stakes have to get higher and higher every season). It feels like the writers keep growing to like their characters so much that they stop being able to have them do all that 'drama' stuff where they make mistakes or act imperfectly, so its mostly just more and more and more 'fun' scenes. Only new side characters can have f*** ups that last more than 15 minutes. It's still fine but it takes it from 'great tv' to 'good fluffy tv'.
8
Jepordee Apr 14, 2026 +6
I mean Seegel’s character had a pretty f***-up heavy season
6
Beetin Apr 14, 2026 +5
Compared it to the first season, where his patients were beating the shit out of people and even killing others based on his advice, he is almost becoming estranged from his daughter, he is fighting against substance abuse. We aren't really sure if all of this is going to work out, if he is going to go to jail, etc. Big stakes, long drawn out conflicts, multi-episode problems where people aren't behaving perfectly or misunderstanding or want different things. This season is more like: (spoilers) ------- He reveals that he slept with Paul's daughter, UH OH BIG CONFLICT! no wait it wraps up in about 20 seconds with 0 payoff, everyone is fine, its not a big deal. Gabby find a RING and Derek is going to ask her to MARRY her, even though she has never wanted that and they promised to talk about this stuff. She gets the RING STUCK ON HER FINGER. WOW what a set up! BIG CONFLICT INCOMI---- no no, wait. She talks it over in 2 scenes with her friends who all completely agree on what she should do, and so she agrees with them! she proposes to him instead. Alice's granddad is going to bail on graduation, and she will be devasted if she does! We are told this several times for several episodes! This is a big deal! The grandad DOES leave, and she learns this and goes upstairs UH OH BIG CONFLICT she must be devast---- no, no of course not, it isn't really brought up again, she has a good time at graduation and her and her dad share some laughs and hug and it goes really well. Charlie wants to go to tennessee for 3 months for work and have Brian come! but he doesn't want to, and he wants to keep the kid here with him. UH OH BIG CONF..... he has a conversation for 20 seconds and thinks about it off screen and he decides he should go and they are a happy family. Alice is having a fight with her best friend over college, they aren't talking! BIG CONF--- no they both immediately sit down at a lunch and say they love each other and its all good. Jimmy is really lonely and on his own, his daughter has been saying shes scared about what he might do. Will he go back to drugs, to alcohol, will he strugg---- no he has a sad cup of coffee and gives some good advice and is generally doing kind of OK. -------- The show is kind of about showing progress and healing and moving on and developing strategies, but it kind of shrunk the stakes of the show and made it so that everyone handled everything well and quickly and we just keep things upbeat and quippy. Which is...... a difficult choice to balance since stories, especially season long TV shows, kind of need conflict driving plot. A lot of main character story points this season can be summarized by: "it appeared to be a huge problem and tension, but luckily everyone talked it out for 30 seconds and thought about it and did the healthiest thing, the end!"
5
bread-dreams Apr 14, 2026 +3
episode 7 onwards spoilers >!I deeply despised how they handled Maya. I related a lot to her and she was just gone like that it honestly almost felt like the writers were saying “if you’re like her you ain’t gonna make it LOLOL”. idfk. soured the whole season for me. i don't think i'll come back for season 4!<
3
fyi1183 Apr 14, 2026 +3
I think you're right. The comparison between Maya and Brett Goldstein's character was night and day. It was handled badly. Take care, dear internet stranger!

Don’t get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the season. The show was somewhat corny from the beginning but season 3 really ramped it up

I’d also argue that as much as I love Indy and Han, I think my favorite might be Regarding Henry.

Triseult Apr 14, 2026 +195
My dad passed away from complications linked to Parkinson's last year. I wish that episode aired before he did, because I would have shared that with him 100%. F*** PARKINSON'S. Harrison Ford's performance on this show is unreal. He has the Parkinson's mannerism down to an unreal degree. The hand tremors are exactly right including when and where they happen, but he has tons of small details down too, like the posture, the shuffling walk, the quieter voice, or the stone-faced expression. Sometimes I'll watch him and immediately recognize my dad. The details of his disease are also super well written. They talk about a UTI triggering hallucinations, and the detail caught me off-guard so f****** hard because my dad went through a very difficult episode where UTI-related issues triggered some major cognitive disorder. I understand now why people want to watch media that relate to their trauma. This shit's healing, it's crazy. At the same time, I dread seeing where the story will take Ford's character.

My dad had it too, and he would have loved this show (the Ford parts anyway, I'm pretty sure he'dve said "Jimmy needs to get his shit together and stop being a p****" at episode 2). You're exactly right, the posture, way of speaking, UTI shenanigans. The worse Paul is getting, the more recognition I'm feeling. F*** Parkinsons.

My wife and I started watching this show while she was in hospital... And she nearly died. I had to stop watching the show entirely on a number of occasions because I was sobbing. Couldn't come back to it for almost a year because I was worried I'd turn into another mess. She's much better now and we watch the show and enjoy every tear-jerking minute of it!

I'll tell you the type of man Harrison Ford is - he flew Roman Polanski's Oscar out to him for "The Pianist" in 2002 because Polanski, a child rapist, fled the US in 1978 after pleading guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor (the girl was 13, and he KNEW that). So, unfortunately, Harrison Ford is the type of man who supports pedophiles.

captsparrow22 Apr 15, 2026 +8
Harrison Ford was chosen by the Academy to present the award that night, so he simply accepted it when Polanski’s name was announced. It wasn’t a personal favor or close friendship—it was more about logistics and ceremony. Harrison then handed it to Roman in France at a film festival. Not as criminal as you are suggesting

RealFarknMcCoy Apr 16, 2026 +2
He made it a point to take it to Polanski in France. He also signed a petition to get Polanski released from custody when he was being detained in Switzerland. He was very much "pro Polanski", and openly supported a man who raped a 13-year-old.

Well this is the first I heard of this. I’m absolutely floored. I know I’m about to go down a rabbit hole here, and sadly it’s gonna make me see Han Solo, and Indy in a shitty light.

Well, to be fair, it's incredibly likely that the whole Parkinson's arc was inspired by MJF. He and Bill Lawrence go way the f*** back.

amyknight22 Apr 15, 2026 +3
I feel like that would be heavily amplified by the representing Parkinsons of it all. Like imagine you meet someone like Fox who has status, but then he turns around and says "Yeah everything you've done parkinsons wise is shit, the only reason I signed up was to fix it"
3
DocDerry Apr 13, 2026 +197
Hes been all in since he read the script. Hearing Brett Goldstein tell the story of him going to Fords house for dinner to convince him to play Paul and Ford praising the script as the best he's ever read is just heart warming.

I hate it because he has made me subconsciously think he actually has Parkinson’s due to how well he plays the character. He’s fantastic in this show

heard in one of the promo interviews, i think it was fresh air, that they keep the symptoms a secret from him so he doesn't know what to expect just like with an actual person suffering from that condition. thought that was pretty smart.
63
SwordMasterShow Apr 14, 2026 +51
What on earth does that mean? He's an actor, he has to know what the symptoms are to portray them, it's not like they're surprise injecting him with Parkinson's before shooting a scene
51
BillyCloneasaurus Apr 14, 2026 +34
I had to look this up because I'm laughing so hard. I found this transcript from Fresh Air. I don't think "keeps the symptoms a secret" is exactly what he said. > Terry Gross > > Michael J. Fox is in the series, and you meet at a doctor's office. He's really depressed. Did he give you advice about how to play the role, and did you really, you didn't ask him for advice? > > Ford > > No. Because every case is different and my case is not yet described to me fully. My writers present symptomology and characteristics. As they are writing. And so I'm sort of living with the symptoms I have been last described as having. > > Terry Gross > > Yeah, I mean, the thing about Parkinson's is that it affects everything. But it affects different parts of like there's a whole long list of things it affects, but everybody gets a different number of them and a different variation of them, right, right, so tremors everybody gets, yeah, so like a, like a true Parkinson's patient. > > Ford > > I don't really know what's coming. > > Terry Gross > > Oh, that's interesting. You mean like what the writers have in store for you in terms of your symptoms? > > Ford > > Yeah, I, I, you know, we I have a general sense of how far it goes this season. But nothing specific yet. > And that's, that's just the way our show works. We, we get a script probably. If we're lucky, a couple of weeks ahead of time, but normally, Maybe just a couple of days or a week at a time. > > Terry Gross > > Did playing the role make you think about your body in a new way and think of what it would be like to not be able to control your movements? > > Ford > > Not specifically. I'm, to be honest, no. There's parts of it I haven't thought through yet, really, and I, I think that might be similar to how I might react if I did have > Parkinson's. I would want to know certain things and other things I would just not want to know. > > Terry Gross > > So as to not obsess on them. > > Ford > > So as to not be looking for them, just Right. Be happy enough with what you got.

I saw an interview with him this week and was shocked at how different (ie healthy and sharp) he was. All the subtle things he does in Shrinking add up considerably.

Richard_B123 Apr 14, 2026 +5
As someone with several family members who live/died with Parkinson's, I find his performance good natured but really not all that accurate tbh. The amount of physical disturbance is usually a lot more profound than he portrays, especially given the stage of the disease they portray him to be at... I understand why they'd turn it down for TV. It can be upsetting to witness, especially in someone (or even a character) you love.

It's definitely my favorite of the last 20+ years. I think he was great through the 70s to 90s (still my favorites), but he needed this reinvention of himself, rather than giving us an aged Han Solo and Indiana Jones again. He's not that guy anymore. This guy in Shrinking is great though.

Bostonterrierpug Apr 13, 2026 +12
I mean, I’m Gen X and I grew up on hand solo, Indiana Jones, and Blade Runner. He is absolutely a gem in this. OK I see that there was a Speech to text typo there but in line with the David Letterman top 10 signs your Star Wars fan list I saw like 35 years ago. I’m leaving it in. Number one sign is your sexLife is strictly hand solo.

My step father had Parkinson's before it killed him. His portrayal is really incredible. It reminds me of him so much. Not just the tremors, but the little things like the subtle change in speech patterns that he's shown. It's really well done. The only criticism I have of it is that I think the symptom progression is a little too fast, but I also can't remember if Parkinson's is one of those "could take a year, could take 10 years" type of things to onset severe symptoms. My step dad had about 15 years before it started getting really bad, 10 before it was clear there was an issue. MJF also had a long time before he got really bad if I remember, he even tried acting on a show as someone with Parkinson's if I remember. Mandatory, "f*** Parkinson's", still a horrible disease. His was onset by exposure to napalm on Vietnam.
16
JustHere_4TheMemes Apr 14, 2026 +8
Parkinson's is indeed a "could take 2 years, could take 30 years" type of disease." The rate of progression is highly variable from person to person.
8
_Verumex_ Apr 14, 2026 +5
It is one where symptom progression varies. But it's ongoing activity that slows it down, so Paul's shouldn't be progressing as fast as it is shown to be, not with his extremely active life both physically and mentally. Still, they have limited time on the show and I think they're committed to showing off the horror of the illness, and I commend them for not shying away from the creeping horror that is Parkinsons. I lost my grandad to it over 10 years, and my biggest fear is having to face it at some point in my own life. (I know it's not typically genetic, but most fears aren't rational.) I know it's becoming a bit rote in this thread, but from the deepest depths of my heart: F*** Parkinsons!

Navitach Apr 14, 2026 +4
>he even tried acting on a show as someone with Parkinson's if I remember. Yeah, the short-lived [The Michael J. Fox Show](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Michael_J._Fox_Show) (2013-2014), a sitcom inspired by his life. His character Mike Henry had Parkinson's. He may have also done guest spots on shows here and there (other than Shrinking) as characters with it, but I'm not entirely sure about those.

My MIL took a little over 2 years from diagnosis to death. So it can be really shockingly fast.

CharlieTheK Apr 13, 2026 +9
The fact that he was a carpenter and got into acting later is always interesting to me. Saw an interview clip with Billy Bob Thornton. He originally wanted to be a musician and kind of stumbled into acting. He talked about auditions and how the best actors are interesting people who you just have to get to act like themselves. Seems like Ford is one of those guys. You always kind of pick up on his personality in his roles, but you believe the character at the same time. He's had a pretty diverse, long career and I don't think I've ever seen something of his I disliked. I'm not much for TV anymore but Shrinking is really excellent.

preguntontas Apr 13, 2026 +9
He's amazing, but particularly the episodes he was with Michael J. Fox (and the plot twist) were a punch in the gut, in a good way.

This show has been a fantastic reminder of what makes Harrison Ford so special on screen. He can phone it in and has done so fairly often in the 21st century, but this has been such a treat to watch. He really committed to this.

I genuinely think this might be his magnum opus role. He's been in some iconic roles, yes. But this is the first role where the emotional connection is so God damn deep.
2
brobasaur93 Apr 14, 2026 +3
That’s been my take as well. He’s been known for his type A masculine action characters in his career but Shrinking is his most flushed out role. Vulnerable but strong and intimate at the same time. I’ve gained a a lot of respect for his range and acting. I truthfully thought he was just an average actor whose career was propped up from successful blockbuster films. Glad to be wrong

He’s the best part of Shrinking and 1923 (alongside Hellen Mirren). It’s been nice to see him have a mini-renaissance where it looks like he’s truly enjoying himself on camera and giving performances that will be considered among his best work.
