I remember her from Evil! Her character was interesting, she was a woman who claimed to be able to hear God. Very talented actress, love seeing this news!

I always think of that character whenever I see her in something new

I liked her performance as the general store co-owner in Sinners, especially the 3rd act, so I'm curious to see how she is as Miriam

I liked her daughter's overly thick southern accent lol

This is a real subculture. Ryan Coogler did his homework: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NMrqGHr5zE

There was a great Chinese restaurant in central Alabama a few years ago, and the lady that owned it sounded like a Texas oil barron. It was amazing to witness.

I really need to watch that movie. Only thing I saw Li Jun Li in was Wu Assassins, and that show f****** suuuuucked.

Kinsbane Apr 18, 2026 +2
You need to watch it, in general. IMO, it's a f****** MASTERPIECE. Writing, pacing, casting, cinematography, sound/audio design, are all S-Tier.

It's a masterpiece. Completely got robbed at the Oscars, but they're not doing their job if they aren't awarding the movies that actually deserve it.

Yes, the third act, where she chooses to let the vampires in so they wouldn't leave and go kill her only daughter. I wonder why she acted that way.

So maybe The Last of Us should have cast Michael B Jordan to play Miriam, since you like his performance in Sinners better? Literally what is your point lmao it’s okay to not like her performance as much as someone else does

The sensation you’re feeling is called being stupid.
8
StuMacherGhostface Apr 17, 2026 +12
What's that have to do with the opinion on her performance?
12
Professional_No1 Apr 17, 2026 +20
Justified freak out considering her situation
20
eat_jay_love Apr 17, 2026 +16
This comment is so stupid because you appear to be conflating a scripted plot point, where the fictional character inadvertently betrays her friends, with the performance of the actress who was cast in this role. This person said they liked her performance in Sinners’ third act, which is what is relevant to her being cast in another role. They did not say they support the character’s decisions lmao

Yeah that’s a titular moment and is well acted Extremely brain rotted comment there

They’re going to give us flashbacks of her I’m sure. She had almost no screentime in the game. As long as it isn’t heavy handed because the way it was shown in the game through Abby learning more about Lev and Yara was effective with having you bond with these characters

monsieurxander Apr 17, 2026 +20
Loved her in the second season of The Exorcist tv show (justice for that show) Also a no-brainer to expand Lev and Yara's backstory

OkStrategy685 Apr 17, 2026 +6
She was in Devils. I really enjoyed that show.

Comic_Book_Reader Apr 17, 2026 +30
This show has such a weird fascination with adding frankly pointless new backstories at the cost of the original story that it makes the show almost paradoxical.

thatshygirl06 Apr 17, 2026
Yeah, that's why episode 3 of season 1 is so hated by the fandom... Everyone literally loves the flashbacks and they do add to the story and theyre good asf

Yukie_Cool Apr 18, 2026 +12
Tbf it kinda runs into the criticism that you can excise it from the story entirely and nothing will change, because we don’t see joel and ellie interacting with older jaded bill like we do in the game.
12
Simmers429 Apr 18, 2026 +8
That's a great episode, but it damaged the main story. It was a whole hour away from Joel and Ellie, so I just didn't buy their show relationship apparently progressing to the same point as the game. Same with Left Behind being thrown into the main narrative, screen-time wasted on dead characters. IMO the first season should've had at least two more episodes if they wanted 3 and 7 in it.
8
GoggleDMara9756 Apr 18, 2026 +7
I could kinda see the argument for 3 not adding anything to the main narrative, but 7 is very important for Ellie’s characterisation and adds a lot to the story.
7
Simmers429 Apr 18, 2026
I understood her character perfectly fine when the game released nearly year before the extra chapter. Ellie going "Her name was Riley, and she was the first to die." pretty much sums up the entire DLC at the end of the game. It was just a neat bonus they released later for people who wanted more TLOU.

GoggleDMara9756 Apr 18, 2026 +3
And it’s still good characterisation, I think folks would’ve been disappointed if they cut the entire dlc too

Comic_Book_Reader Apr 17, 2026 +4
I can give that one a pass but the point still stands. The show as a whole is a bizarre Frankenstein's monster, especially season 2. It feels so mangled because while a lot of shows today feel too long, padded, stretched etc., this one was the opposite in that it was too *short*!
4
Yukie_Cool Apr 18, 2026 +4
It really just sprints through a ton of plot points without giving Joel and Ellie some downtime to really connect. That’s where the game really shines, imo. The journey really helps you bond with these two, which makes the ending hit a lot more.

sarbeans9001 Apr 18, 2026 +4
haven't finished season 2 yet so trying to avoid spoilers lol but Li Jun Li was so good in Sinners, genuinely one of my favorite parts of that movie. can't wait to see where they take her character

Candid_Ad_9145 Apr 18, 2026 +2
did anyone not drop last of us in season 2?

Some people are free thinkers and don’t hate something because some virgins on the internet told people to hate it
-4
monsieurxander Apr 18, 2026 +3
Not even an exaggeration. There was this whole discourse about how Abby had to be trans, because in the game she has a sex scene where she's taken from behind, which they assumed meant a*** sex. They literally don't know where the v***** is.
3
Candid_Ad_9145 Apr 18, 2026 -3
It was objectively really bad 🤷‍♀️

So she’s gonna let in the infected too?? But in all seriousness, she is a great actress!
-4
africanlivedit Apr 17, 2026 -27
lol breakout?!!?!
-27
theTinTank Apr 17, 2026 +8
She’s pretty and the movie was a success = breakout. I thought she was the weakest actor in the movie but I can see that I’m in the minority by how the downvotes are looking lol.

grantology_84 Apr 18, 2026 -2
I was going to say the same shit. Bots in full force in here apparently.
-2
africanlivedit Apr 18, 2026 +1
Wild that I was downvoted so much. Movie was an absolute banger. Her role was fine. Nothing breakout about it.
1
IEatThyme Apr 17, 2026 -30
Breakout? There's at least like 6 other actors in that movie I remember before her
-30
funkyavocado Apr 17, 2026 +10
Movie press is all just marketing and hype, so you have to take headlines with a grain of salt.  I remember seeing an article refer to Jessica Henwick as a "Star Wars Star" when she was in Force awakens as a pilot for like 30 seconds lol

There’s a season 3? Hope I live to see it.

Ven0m889 Apr 17, 2026 -23
Breakout star? Not at all
-23
StuMacherGhostface Apr 17, 2026 +7
Well, her role in the movie presumably got her this role in one of the most popular shows on today. So yeah, she's currently breaking out as a star
7
Ven0m889 Apr 17, 2026 -9
Except her role wasn’t a starring role, and her performance wasn’t “breakout” worthy. That’s great that she’s getting more roles, but it doesn’t make her a breakout star. I see lots of people in this sub struggle with that concept though

Sucking d*** is a good thing. Sex is fun. Try it sometime.

StuMacherGhostface Apr 18, 2026 +1
Yeah, well, you know, that's just like your opinion, man. Also, regardless of your feelings in it, it's still a very popular show

Sinners is one of the most overrated movies of all time. Edit: Downvoted by mouthbreathers with horrible taste in movies.
