Hello everyone,
How are you? I am a teacher in Mexico and I am a teacher of acting. I am looking for scenes of slapstick to show my students to introduce the genre. I am thinking funny faints or knockouts, crossing eyes, things like that. Do you have any recommendations for me? I have seen Three Stooges, and in Mexico we have "El Chavo de Ocho". If you can recommend scenes or movies that would be great - it can be old or new. It seems like slapstick was very popular in the 1940s and 1950s.
Stick on anything Mr Bean. It is famously universal slapstick humour.

If you want good modern examples, check out the movie "Hundreds of Beavers". It came out in 2022 but it is styled on and inspired by old cartoons and silent movies. It's hard to pick out one specific scene, I'd recommend watching the movie and see what you like.

This scene in particular: https://youtu.be/u0HtDsEuJgI?si=VzrHLLdAdXj4KIGt
Although, there's a lot of great slapstick (and other types of comedy) throughout.

My friend from Japan had never really seen slapstick before and when he watched the last half hour of Home Alone he was laughing so hard I had to stop the movie so he could catch his breath. So that's my pick.

Buster Keaton has a lot of great slapstick - lots of great stunts in Sherlock Jr. - the movie theater scene and the train scenes come to mind

also, Jacques Tati's Playtime has some mind boggling slapstick especially once the party scene starts

Cary Grant's scenes in Arsenic and Old Lace are hilarious. He's brilliant at slapstick. He had some great scenes in Bringing Up Baby too, iirc

Not necessarily slapstick, but Niles Crane on Frasier is some of the best physical comedy I’ve ever seen.
Edit: sorry to any guys feeling left out. I don’t know what you go through as trans men, so I’m not sure if you get the same wonderful doubts that permeate the quiet moments.

The Naked Gun reboot & Fackham Hall both came out recently. I was lukewarm on Naked Gun but found Fackham Hall hilarious.
There's also a lot of wordplay though, which tend stop be par for the course with slapstick so dunno how well that works for translation.
There's the 80's classics - Airplane, the first Naked Gun trilogy.

This Marx brothers scene has no dialogue and is my favorite piece of brilliant physical comedy.
It has been copied many times.

Mirror routines were common in Vaudeville comedy, and the Marx boys would have learned it there. Other early comics had already done variations in movies before this, but it's always some version of "There's no mirror, but another similar figure copies what you do, causing confusion."

In no particular order other than how they popped into my head:
Any and all of the Mr. Bean shows. Rowan Atkinson is a modern master. It also has the benefit of having very little to zero dialogue, so they translate really well for worldwide audiences.
You could also look at Peter Sellers, specifically the Pink Panther movies, or the more modern remakes with Steve Martin.
Home Alone. The whole thing too to bottom.
Laurel and Hardy are amazing too. My favourite is "The Music Box" from 1932.
Anything Buster Keaton. One of the fathers of Slapstick in film and an influence on everything everyone's done since.
For more modern audiences, all with hugely varied approaches to slapstick: Hundreds of Beavers, any films by Sacha Baron Cohen, Will Ferrell, Melissa McCarthy, Jackie Chan, Anything from Tyler Perry's studio.

Well, if you've got "Chavo del Ocho" then you've got "Chapulín Colorado" and all his coldly calculated movements. Cantinflas is also good for slapstick, though a lot of his humor is based on language.
Danny Kaye's "The Court Jester" has a lot of slapstick in its final duel.
Jerry Lewis was a terrible human being, but a talented physical comedian. Go with his earlier movies when he was still with Dean Martin.

Basically everything Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton did during the Silent era.
The entire second act of the Broadway show and movie *Noises Off!* is a prolonged, and very funny silent slapstick sequence, though you need to see it in context for proper effect.
Johnny Depp performs some great slapstick street theatre in *Benny and Joon.*
Jackie Chan's action/comedies have some of the best acrobatic slapstick fights and chases ever performed.
The Italian Terence Hill/Bud Spencer action comedies of the 1970s and '80s have some surprisingly inventive slapstick fight scenes.

Before anyone says anything. Yes it was considered a “flop” but I personally thought it was hilarious. Had all the right punch lines. And perfect for that slapstick comedy your are talking about
