I see Putin is preparing the next puppet to block the EU.

Nuclear-Jester 5 days ago +578
Good luck with that. PM Golob' s party is still the biggest one in the country, so the local government is still pro-EU and pro-Ukraine

It's hard to imagine anything but Stevanović backing Janša for PM in return for making him speaker.
127
lukethedank13 5 days ago +80
Janša has many faults but he is staunchly pro Ukraine. He was more active when it came to suporting them than Golob who took a more passive role.
80
ShinyAegislash1 5 days ago +41
And yet he never seemed to criticise his buddy Orbàn for his pro-Russian stances. The right has no principles, as shown by how Stevanović was elected speaker, and I have no trust in Janša being consistent about anything. He definitely seems to be a lot busier being pro-Israel these days than pro-Ukraine.
41
lukethedank13 5 days ago +26
True that. So far he has done more to visibly help Ukraine. His government was one of the first to send military aid. But he is way to chumy with Orban and that, among many other things, is why i didnt vote for him.
26
Bwunt 5 days ago +6
>He definitely seems to be a lot busier being pro-Israel these days than pro-Ukraine. That is true, but Stevanovic isn't a big supporter of Israel either.

95% of the parliament is pro EU and pro NATO. The biggest right wing party was actually in power when we joined both.
14
speedstares 5 days ago +37
Yeah it's not going to happen. Both left and right political parties are for NATO. This one is oddball, ex con and his party is small.

Slovenians didn't elect him, the parlament did. His party barely got enough votes (5,5%) to make it into parlament. His position holds no real power and he can be voted out anytime by the majority of parlament which might be soon because he barely got the needed half of votes to be put in this position.

Putin can't let go of his little Cold War f*****, it's the only thing that ever gave his life any meaning. It gets him off. People are suffering and paying with their lives just because an old man wants to live in his personal nostalgia fantasy world. Sadly that means everyone else has to go back to Cold War levels of counter-measures.

Until you can reliable prove someone is acting on behalf of a foreign entity in your country (regardless if it is Russia, EU, China, USA...), then what you are suggesting is undemocratic. There are legitimate cases to disagree with any government and you can't simply mute opposition. Rather, you can, but then you become Russia.
6
im_bozack 5 days ago +7
Right?  I'm tired of playing nice.  They're counting on the current party in power to not investigate the opposition F*** that noise.  Do it.  Any connection to Russia should be investigated, exposed, prosecuted

Our elections were a f****** farce. We elected Svoboda (Freedom), this mofo claimed he won't back our rightist opposition SDS, even claimed he has a verified statement of claiming so and then does 180 and goes to bed with SDS. He can go f*** right off. And people say why we haven't voted for independents. Because bullshit like this happens if one doesn't outright wins with majority in parliament. If Trumpian bullshit ever taught me anything it is to never ever in my life vote for the "right". Because they are all the same bullshit. Different countries and different politics but underneath it's the same rightist shit.

Politicians? No one. I only voted for Svoboda because they were handling things fairly okay so far and because I just f****** despise SDS and its perpetually whining leader Janša. Also most of the right in general. Politicians are inherently corrupt and awful and they need to show us they are good with actual actions that benefit all citizens.

My Slovenian colleague explained this to me yesterday. Basically, he is one of the crazy conspiracy theory idiots, who got a few % of votes from other crazies, and they needed his votes so much to form a coalition they named him parliament speaker so he helps them form a majority. Nobody is really listening to him, they just let a kid sit in the front seat so he shuts up and the rest of the family can travel in peace.

He and his party are relevant only to the uneducated idiots who believe everything he says or promises. Including that he won’t side with Janša what he kinda just did. 10
DisIsMyName_NotUrs 5 days ago +24
No. Both the right and left wing are pro Ukraine. The speaker of the parliament is a largely symbolic role. Janez Janša (Right wing) promised him that seat in exchange for backing him for Prime Minister. Janez Janša is arguably more pro Ukraine than the previous government of Robert Golob. That is where the good things about Janša end, but he isn't a Russian puppet

Slovenia, then part of Yugoslavia, was invaded and occupied by Germany and Italy, with Croatia and Hungary also ouccpying some border territory. So, Slovenia has a history of being backstabbed by its neighbours, and its in its best interest to be in binding defensive pacts with said neighbours.
