They could solve this controversy every single year by making the segment a little longer than 4 minutes: It’s only going to get worse in the years to come.

That wouldnt solve anything, people would still find people they felt were left out.

Well this years was over 10 minutes long (closer to 15 actually), they very much did what you’re suggesting

Few_Faithlessness_49Mar 24, 2026
Yea but huge chunks were taken up by shitty singing, long speeches and spotlights on 3 actors the Academy seemed to think were extra special dead rich people.

“Rich people” ahh yes. The classic Redditor way out of any conversation.
The Oscars are a celebration of Hollywood. In Memoriam recognizes contributors to the industry. It’s a harsh truth that some people are more important and their loss is bigger. Their money isn’t relevant because this is already the movie business and most of these people were better off. But who cares? Meryl Streep is rich. Her loss is still going to be bigger than some C level actress. Not on a human level but on an industry one.
We can disagree about who contributed more but I don’t think it’s hard to see why someone like Robert Redford would get a spotlight. And I say that as someone who found the In Memoriam this year to be really long and poorly done. I think they should be all picture and clips with no highlights and especially no clapping.

Aaaand there is always a Redditor to try their hardest to protect the wealthy. As if Rich people aren’t to blame for the majority of our problems. Anyone who thinks this way is either rich , stupid or both. .
You said a lot to agree with me.l in the end lol.
Loo lk at who they focused on and who they left out. Wealth = longer time spent over contributions .

“Protect the wealthy”. No sir. I just don’t confuse a discussion about the Oscars In Memoriam with some class conscious morality play that I can use to show that I am a Good Moral Person because I dislike the right things on the internet.

No you are just ignorant and not a person of morals.
Ding! Another American not understanding how their shit interpretation of the world is why the world is falling apart.

It’s fascinating how people seem unable to accept that some people are more important than others in some ways. The very suggestion that people aren’t equal in all ways just seems to trigger people. Usually people insecure about their own lives so they can’t differentiate between the idea that Meryl Streep is more important to the industry but not more important as a human being. But it’s true. She is more important to film than I am. I’m a nobody. It doesn’t mean she’s entitled to more rights than me or more human dignity. But I’m not going to be in the Oscars In Memoriam because why would I be…

They could solve it all by just teaming up with all the entertainment awards and just do a single annual event to recognize all recently passed entertainers across movies, episodic series, and music.
That way we can stop with all this *snub* c***.

The Academy is q professional organisation for all filmmakers. Its not just about performers and theres no reason it should be.

Maybe rather than a single card for every name, just combine them, mix them up.
A list of names scrolling up might be too old fashioned, maybe just fade between cards with 2-4 names and photos per card

Is your stance really "who cares about non famous people, just shove them all in a slide together"? Yikes.

So you want 6 people per slide for the whole memoriam? They already have the website if its just a list of names.

That's a surprising exclusion. So many have passed this year it's quite incredible. It feels like 2016 all over again.
Does anyone know if they included him on the online segment? That apparently runs longer.

I think the dead person has bigger issues than an in memoriam snub

I just noticed his role in Young Frankenstein on a relatively recent re-viewing, not sure how I missed it before (one of the students in Dr. ~~Franken~~\-Fronkensteen's class at the beginning).
But yeah, I definitely remember going "oh hey, him!" numerous times when he popped up over the years, like starring in the 1980 TV adaptation of Brave New World.

Yes, but before the Oscars. Gene Hackman died late February last year, and they still paid special tribute to him not a month later at the Oscars.

Hackman was also a 2 time Oscar w*****. So there is a little difference
