It was not entirely my fault, but I did imply when I shouldn’t have. And at the end I wasn’t going to apologize, instead I wished that person well, and hoped all the best in their endeavors. I didn’t want to backtrack. And I don’t want to go into too much detail, but I rubbed that person the wrong way clearly. I feel bad, but more because of how I felt when I implied rather than what I said. Am I in the wrong? Or was I the better person because I wished them well and stated that I have no ill feelings towards them?
I don’t think it’s about being the “better person” or being wrong, it’s more about impact vs intent. You might not have meant anything bad, but if it came across that way, that’s what they’re reacting to.
Wishing them well is good, but sometimes a simple “hey I didn’t mean it like that” can go a long way without feeling like you’re backtracking.

You're definitely not in the wrong, sometimes implying is just a fancy way of saying, “I don’t have time for your drama, but good luck with your life,” and honestly, that's the real maturity move.

Thank you… I truly hoped the best for that person. And if they took it the wrong way then, ok. And you’re right, I just didn’t want to leave it alone, but I didn’t want to go on a back and forth. No need for the drama and stress

Someone suggested saying “I didn’t mean like that”. I should print that on my T-shirt. I am the king of mortally offending people when trying to be nice.
What I’m thinking: “don’t worry about it, I know it was a one-off accident, and I fully trust you”
The message that comes through: “Don’t worry about it. I’m sure it won’t happen again, RIGHT?!?!”
That was my latest one.

Youre not wrong, it seems to me you didnt want to deal with that person and the aftermath
Didnt you feel like you blew it? And that what was coming after was something "bad" and it was helpless to try to address it
