And they know where the world’s navies are tied up.

LackOfMachinations 21 hr ago +40
Oh there's always more navy.

Tweezot 21 hr ago +13
You mean the most powerful navies in the world have VBSS teams with dozens of support vessels right nearby. Seems like a bad idea. Maybe we’ll get a movie about it.

You mean USAs Navy?

I haven’t seized an oil tanker, am I doing life wrong?
63
Fit_Context_6064 23 hr ago +29
You just need a ship, a gang and some weapons.
29
actuallyapossom 22 hr ago +7
Well dang. I guess I'll sit this one out. I've got a gang, but it's more like the scooby doo version, not the west side story version.

Oh you should get a van and solve mysteries!

Spicy_pewpew_memes 22 hr ago +4
No even that, you can actually join a pirate kickstarter and invest in one. Invest in STF today!

The hard part is getting away with it and keeping the money after. Maybe convert to crypto and steal an identity I guess.

According to the New York Times best seller, *If You Haven't Seized an Oil Tanker, You're Doing Life Wrong*, yes.
7
ProxyDamage 21 hr ago +3
Sorry. If you haven't seized an oil tanker by 23 you have failed at life.

It’s 2026 and we’re still letting oil tankers get captured by a handful of drugged-up low-IQ ‘pirates’ in a dinghy. With how much money there is in oil, just post a proper armed security detachment on the ships going through that area ffs. Even just a couple of guys with guns has a massive advantage from a vantage point high up on an oil tanker

Rippthrough 13 hr ago +3
Not worth the wages vs an insurance payout.
3
mothtoalamp 7 hr ago +1
Eventually some FPVs stationed on the deck will be able to do the work of several men with guns. Security budgets will only require one trained person.

Flat-Emergency4891 22 hr ago +11
That’s a big deal. If hardly any ships are passing the Straight of Hormuz, and ships start getting stolen or fired upon in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden or the Bab El Mandeb straight, it’s good bye to the world economy and Hello global famine and economic depression. We’re on the brink of a major escalation.

Nice to see pirates operating on the same level as the President.

If I were to be a pirate, I would fully embrace the role. I’m talking an eye patch, a prosthetic hook for a hand, and a parrot on my shoulder. I would be nice to my captives and I think they would find it amusing to be captured by a true-to-life, Pirates of the Caribbean-looking pirate in 2026.

That image comes from Long John Silver (Adventure Island) who was based on the real life Edward Teach aka Blackbeard. Read up about the real guy, he was a total badass

Perhaps Trump should enlist them to enforce the blockade.

When it's Somalis it's piracy

When it meets the definition of piracy it's piracy

Deditch 22 hr ago -7
no clearly it's a blockade

"hijacking on the high seas or in similar contexts; taking a ship or plane away from the control of those who are legally entitled to it." So USA & Iran, for example.
-2
Unicornoftheseas 23 hr ago +19
When it’s not a government then it’s piracy

Good job America, you brought Somalian pirates back. You're doing great. 👍

They should be allowed to be armed.

Who supplies them with weapons?

Tribaal 11 hr ago +1
I think small arms and speedboats are in no short supply anywhere in the world, sadly.

Oh it's on now, you know the US Navy is going to want to beat that record

Martin-downunder 19 hr ago +1
Maybe the US should employ them in the Gulf as they seem to be better at stopping ships than the US Navy

If the crew of the oil tanker killed the pirates and just kicked the bodies overboard, where is the loss and who would ever know/care? Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Humans have become weak, domesticated creatures of the rich...
1
Sulimonstrum 9 hr ago +1
> Humans have become weak, domesticated creatures of the rich... As opposed to rising up against an armed invader in defense of the property of the rich? Nobody on an oil tanker is making bank, it's generally ~20 Filipino dudes and 1 western-ish captain that just want to get paid at the end of the day. The crew just waiting until the company pays up is generally the smarter move. But you do you, go sign up at your local merchant marine and live your 17th century age of sail dreams or whatever.

US should just issue letters of marque, and let the Somalians enforce the blockade.
