Song Association

Posted by Last_Canary_6622

Anybody else here associate a song with a particular time, place, and vibe? Examples: * You Could've Been a Roosevelt by Aimee Mann: Rich girl sailing off the coast of upscale New England * Get Up, Get Out, Get Somethin' by Outkast: Georgia overall in the 90s, especially Atlanta on a weekday late afternoon while the sun is still up but starting to set * Oceans by Pearl Jam: San Juan Islands at night under a full moon as I watch orcas from the safety of the land with a fire lit * Smoky Mountain Rain by Ronnie Milsapp: The Smoky Mountains glistening in a sun beam right after the rain has stopped * Any pop punk song: Riding the Las Vegas Monorail * Hootie and the Blowfish in general: Interstate driving when the sun is fully up in the morning * Caught Low by Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever: Meeting up with an old friend of mine from school at a diner at night and it's pouring rain outside. I poor my soul out to him because I see him as the embodiment of that time and pop punk culture in my life and the few things from that era that I want back in my life and then we leave, even though it's raining I give him a big hug. * Gun-Shy by Grizzly Bear: That same friend of mine but in the fall. Leaves are falling in a neighborhood and we're walking away from each other while looking at each other at the same time. Feels like I'm losing more of my younger self.

Totally get this! "Mad World" by Gary Jules always puts me in this empty coffee shop at 2am, rain streaking the windows while I'm hunched over my laptop pretending to write but mostly just spiraling 😂 Also anything by The National makes me think of walking alone through a city at dusk with that perfect melancholy vibe 💀

Whatever I conjure up when listening to Terrible Love by The National, I just know it's in black and white

OP said: > Hootie and the Blowfish in general: Interstate driving when the sun is fully up in the morning… And that reminded me: I have an interstate driving musical association, too! For me, the song is **Sun Goddess** by Ramsey Lewis (released 1974). Ahhh, to be cruising down the mid-afternoon highway, open road ahead of me, maybe one or two other cars at most, music surrounding me, open fields on either side… glorious! Hehe just making this post inspired me to launch the song. Listening to it right now. An oldie, but most definitely a goodie!
