That was my initial reaction to the casting, Lara Croft is an intensely physical character and Sophie didn't seem the body type for it.
But after seeing some of her workout videos, she's definitely putting in the effort. I'm cautiously optimistic

honestly if you go back to the original tomb raider neither was angelina jolie, she just had big b**** so a lot of people overlooked it. i mean she was great but physically, she (muscle/tone wise) was probably even skinnier than sophie.

MattyKattyMar 30, 2026

> neither was angelina jolie, she just had big b****
Well yeah, that is kind of the one necessary factor to play the role of Lara Croft. And even Angelina Jolie admitted that she had additional padding for the role; Jolie is/was naturally a 36C and padded up to a 36D.

Turner hasn't been in a lot of stuff, and hasn't had a lot of opportunity to show us what she can do. But, based on her existing work, I'm often less than impressed with her acting.
Her time as Jean Grey was.. underwhelming. Admittedly, the writing and such in that splat of X-Men movies wasn't exactly top-notch, but she didn't really sell me on the character. It felt a lot like "Someone put a red wig on Sansa and has hoisted her up in a wire rig," sort of deal.
I hope this is a good movie, and I hope she gets an opportunity to act more than she has in the past.

I’ve worked as a journalist and done plenty of pieces like this.
So the corporate quotas are so ridiculous that that they basically want you to churn out articles like a robot, but still have some semblance of standards (3 x 500 words a day or an 1800 in one day).
And for articles like this, you just have an account with photo sites and don’t have much of a royalty licensing budget. So you log in and either grab the most recent photo you can for $180, or an editor/ proof person/ last set of eyes grabs the photo and then it captures even less of the essence of the content.
Unless the article is about the photo itself.

No way - Indiana Jones and Nathan Drake would compete for Lara against each other and she’d find it amusing to gas them up, pit them against each other, and while they were distracted she’d take off with whatever hidden treasure they all were after.
Nathan and Indiana commiserate over beers at a local bar and Lara passive aggressively sends them photos of her posing with the treasure on a yacht or something

I think the thing with Sansa is she's a great character but she's gets the most internal development and even they had a book of that stuff reaching its peak they kinda just gave up on season 5.
21
findings1moMar 30, 2026
+6
What exactly is Sansa's character development in that book? She's doing Littlefinger's bidding, just like in the show, only with different characters surrounding her.
Issues with Sansa are the ending of season 6 and beyond. She calls up Lords of the Vale to the battle, like literally that's all she does, and suddenly we're supposed to treat her as this mastermind and genius. By far the most jarring discrepancy in terms of how other characters treat them and what we've actually seen the character do.
6
pathofdumbassesMar 30, 2026
+6
> and suddenly we're supposed to treat her as this mastermind and genius.
She is.
She managed to get rid of Jon, get rid of Danny, install her brother as king of the (now) 6 kingdoms and call herself Queen of the north.
She wasn't lying when she told Petyr that she was a slow learner, but she DID learn to play the Game of Thrones, something that none of the other Starks manage to do at all.
6
acallan1Mar 30, 2026
+2
yeah if you binged the show or even just rewatched certain episodes Sansa's character arc of observing & learning from some of the most cunning characters & from her own mistakes is shown pretty clearly. But it does involve some off screen machinations you have to assume took place at times which is easy to miss if you just watched serially or expected to see every move she makes.

Ugh… back injuries that nag until they break you are so hard to identify, heal, and *keep* healed.
I’ve had a couple back spasms and herniated discs in my lower back from sitting on the floor with my dog at a twisted angle and picking up a turkey up from a low reach place. Of course, those were not the causes, those were just the last things I did before all hell broke loose. All sorts of things set you up for it… sleeping on a bad bed, sitting too long, standing too long, walking too long, driving a lot (one leg exerting more pressure than the other can knock the hips out of alignment), and, my favorite, bend and twist, the ultimate in spine shear!
And once you get hurt like this one time, good f****** luck… it’s never really right again.
And yes, I am someone who exercises regularly. That’s actually part of the problem. A lifetime of martial arts, mountain biking, and CrossFit fucked my back up. If 50 year old me could tell 20 year old me one thing it would be to do a quarter of what I was fit enough to do. 😂
I hope she is back to work in 2 weeks.. maybe her youth will help her. But I wouldn’t be surprised if she turns into a drug addict trying to heal that fast. My injuries have taken at least a month to *start* trusting my body again. A lot of lost money for them, lots of pressure. I hope she can prioritize her health.

Based on the picture I’d say she’s in great pain and needs medical help immediately.

Someone must have Karen Gillan's phone number for the stunts, surely?

I watched Steal recently, it was impossible to feel anything for her character.. she just has no charisma at all and her accent kept slipping, she's not a good actress and she seems like a really bizarre choice for this role.

her accent kept slipping?? what are you talking about? she's using her own accent in Steal

I don't think I have seen as many failed career start ups than with the younger cast in GOT.

I don’t think the kid actors outside of Gleason were that good. Sophie was fine for season 1-2 Sansa but that’s about the extent of her range.

I like Alfie Allen and Kit Harrington, though haven’t seen either in much. Allen in particular is a really expressive actor, and if he plays his cards right his unique look could get him into some Walton Goggins-style roles. I forget the Robb actor name but he was in a couple fairly standard action things that didn’t move me all that much. I’ve never seen Maisie Williams again.
I love Emilia Clarke’s general vibe though and hope she keeps getting good projects.its a shame that she capped off that awful GoT season with another awful Terminator movie.

I do wish we could have a Lara Croft who was somewhat reminiscent of the video game.

They should take this as an omen to recast the role.

They should take it as an omen to stop rebooting Lara Croft movies…

They cast Sophie Turner as Lara Croft?
They really don't get why that character was popular.

As someone who has suffered back injuries since 2011 I know exactly what she’s going through and it’s no joke.

This really sucks. I watched a back injury turn my mom, who was the life of the party, into a shadow of herself. When your back hurts, it means everything hurts.
You can’t open a jar, check your phone, change the channel, turn your head, without the worst pain you’ve ever felt.
A lot of people think a back injury means you can’t lift stuff or be athletic anymore, but it really means that every single move you make hurts. Every single minuscule movement is earth shatteringly bad.
She was so full of life and constant, daily pain ruined her spirit.
I hope sophie heals

How does productions deal with this logistically? Are they insured for delays? Does Sophie get sued for non performance?

So, they chose a person with back problems to portray a character that is highly physically active? That seems like a poor casting choice… I would say this was just a matter of time until it happened…

Awful that she got injured but I still think she’s miscast.

It's always odd when a part becomes bigger than the whole. When did it become the Lara Croft reboot instead of Tomb Raider?

I mean to be fair, the Vikander film was _also_ a reboot.
...based on a reboot of the game.

So you want to let the franchise die outside of games because your choice of actress isn't in the new movie? Sounds like Snyderbro logic.

We as a species retell stories and have done since we've learned how to tell stories. There are hundreds of remakes; many Titanic's, so many pride and prejudices, Bonds, Romeo and Juliets... countless stories retold countless times. Why is this suddenly so shocking to people?

>The star shared in January that she learned about her "perpetual back problem" during her months-long training routine last year.
>"We've been doing eight hours a day, five days a week, since February last year of training, so it's been a lot," she said on The Julia Cunningham radio show.
>The X-Men star further explained how "it's much easier to kind of build muscle if you've ever worked out before in your life. Which I never had, so it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape. That's what I've learned."
What kind of f****** training regiment was she on for Lara Croft that required her to "train" 40 hours a week? Like were they going to strap a GoPro to her and have her actually raid tombs or something?
