Hopefully she just earned herself more time behind bars... but my hope has already faded while writing this and remembering the rich rarely face significant justice. RIP to the murdered judge.

More likely it’s a media miscommunication issue. I’ve been called by reporters on some of my homicide cases and it’s a running joke in my office that giving quotes to the press is like playing r******* because of how often they get something wrong in the story.

The reason why declaring anything like that is suspicious; >!if, sadly, anyone commits suicide... They shouldnt need to specify they are the culprit in their 'Goodbye note'!< >!'Yo man, chill out, I killed myself'!<
192
Repulsive-Chip3371 6 days ago +149
I mean, many people in their suicide notes write "this was my choice" etc to try and not burden family members who might think it was their fault they killed themselves.
149
TheMonchoochkin 6 days ago +81
Yeah, but context is key. All things considered, I think that the guy would have left more breadcrumbs than a hurried letter stuffed into his pocket after 'punishing' a person with connections to the highest echelons of the ivory tower if he was going to bother to write a note to his family about all this was of his own volition. But what do I know, I'm just some unimportant dude on Listnook...
81
u1tr4me0w 6 days ago +25
My question: why keep the suicide note in your pocket? If you know you’re about to launch out the window, the note could easily get lost or drenched in blood. If someone was planning out a suicide enough to write a note, why take the note? Why not leave it to be found by loved ones or something? It doesn’t make sense. I suppose one could say “he wrote the note and forgot to leave it” but still very strange
25
NurRauch 6 days ago +29
I don’t think you appreciate how normal this type of suicide note is. Many suicide notes are spur of the moment. Some of them are long and rambling, but lots of others are a few short sentences in chicken scratch. People who end their own lives are often not thinking clearly about long-term or secondary consequences like the risk their note will get lost or soiled.

General Oufkir, who led a failed assassination attempt / coup against Hassan II, then king of Morocco , is one of the most famous "suicide by assault weapons in the back" exemple. The coup attempt itself was something out of a movie. Two fighters from the Moroccan airforce shot the Royal jet, killing 8 aboard. Hassan II impersonated the pilot on the radio, claiming that the « tyrant was dead", and the pilots broke off the attack. The plane then flew to the next friendly airport, with the king ordering the army to encircle all airforce bases. The fighters came back in a light ditch attempt to strafe the royal jet on the ground, but it was too late. Oufkir was summoned to the royal palace. where he promptly "committed suicide " five times…

This is the 2nd time someone connected with the corruption of the former 1st lady has been killed. The initial investigator to what people called "purse gate" ( she took an expensive designer handbag as a gift which some saw as a bribe) was also killed after he brought evidence forward about her.

That’s the best part of tyranny. The more you have to expose it th more the cracks show. The more evidence you leave behind the more people you have to pay off and silence. It’s impossible to keep contained forever.

According-Insect-992 6 days ago +606
It’s possible to contain tyranny forever. A special kind of box is required. It’s made out of pine wood and is about six feet long, three feet wide, and two feet deep, and must be placed six feet underground to be its most effective.

There's a lot of rumors spawned from hate against Korea, like the 4B movement / sexism being why they aren't having kids, and about how they're so racist, but one thing I can tell you is not a rumor is how much materialism there is there and how much money really does rule the government. He was GCHQ, not MI6. And that case changed the way police investigations into the intelligence services are carried out, because MI5 were *incredibly* shady. Like, they showed up and took the front door before the police forensics team could get there.

In reality, they know he didn’t commit suicide. MI6 knows he didn’t commit suicide, they probably got their revenge/comeuppance it just doesn’t get released to the public because it could reveal how MI6 investigates and how much information they have access to to their enemy’s.

There are recent episodes of the podcast "was i in a cult?" about Falun Gong and Shen Yun, if you'd like a quick primer. Members of the cult are isolated, financially abused (work for free, give money to the leader,) etc. The most attractive young women raised in the cult are forced into slave labor as dancers in shen yun.

I live in SF and we used to see tons of Epoch Times newspaper racks around the city. At some point they started delivering to our house. Used them for starting the BBQ or lining my bird cage. Suddenly it stopped and I haven't seen them around in a few years. Suddenly two billboards popped up on I-80 on the drive to Sacramento and I think one other on I-50 heading to Tahoe. Billboard had a white guy and some blurb about news you can trust. They just happened to be in heavily red counties. They went down shortly after their CFO was arrested for tax fraud among other things. I would say I was Epoch Times free for at least a year and then I saw a stack of them stamped "FREE" in the lobby of my hotel in Boston this week.
28
piepants2001 6 days ago +10
I was getting the Epoch Times delivered to my door for about a year too, I think it was around 2020 or 2021. I paged through the first issue I got, and every article was just praising Donald Trump and saying how he was sent to destroy evil and a bunch of other bullshit, I don't even think there were any articles in there that weren't worshipping him. Every issue I got after that went straight into the garbage.

Being a cult leader requires skill and know-how, which is usually passed on very secretively from the leader to their children, or to the next cult leader. Like a family business - which are pretty strong in Korean culture. Plus, North Korea is basically the ultimate cult on the scale of a country, a whole ass textbook that cult leaders can learn from.
102
EconomicRegret2 May 6, 2026 +48
Also, these didn't help: rapid modernization, intense socio-economic competition, historical instability, and a cultural blend of Confucian hierarchy, shamanism, and Christianity. These groups exploit social anxiety, offering intense community, clear answers in a competitive society, and salvation through charismatic leaders. (quick googling, not an expert in anyway. Would be happy if a knowledgeable person could chime in)
48
rhododenendron May 6, 2026 +28
I think we under appreciate how radical the world has changed since WWII and even since electricity became commonplace. The human psyche and many cultures are very much still adapting and waking up to everything that has changed. People joke about showing the internet to a medieval peasant, but that is essentially what happened to a lot of people all across the world.

No, it's not normal corruption. Generally speaking, countries have been getting more free and transparant and less corrupt for the past six or seven decades. Recent events are a HUGE reversal of that trend. The US alone has been set back something like 50 years on the democracy index. The problem is that people have been told "everything is corrupt and always has been" for so long that they started to believe it. It's a lie designed to make people helpless and ineffective by making them unable to identify real corruption.
165
loulan 6 days ago +71
...yeah no. We could definitely spot corruption with technology from decades ago and I promise it wasn't like that. Actually it's a little scary that kids these days rationalize this and genuinely think the current state of the world is normal. I bet those who grew up with Trump in power will see nothing wrong with future US presidents behaving like him, which could have catastrophic consequences.

Ehhh, even relatively liberal governments are corrupted as f***. The CAQ here in Quebec is pretty corrupted.

So we should do something about it

You mean the thing thats been happening since the greek empire?
106
errihu May 6, 2026 +45
I think the difference is that western post-enlightenment society has been founded on principles which consider corruption to be *inherently bad*, whereas the entirety of human history and most other modern cultures expect it as a matter of course.

BradlyPitts89 May 6, 2026 +55
Not this blatant and in broad daylight.

more access now to get the information out quickly on what's happening.
49

Been happening for ages they just don’t care to hide it anymore
19
IHateCreatingSNs May 6, 2026 +13
They can't hide it anymore might be more accurate in the digital age
13
Rynetx May 6, 2026 +14
Stop and ask yourself if what you’re seeing is new or just being presented to you more easily. 30-40 years ago other counties corruption would only be covered by local papers and usually months after it happened. It’s not that it’s happening more, it’s just that information is available quicker due to the internet.

brainrotxx May 6, 2026 +257
okay hike up her sentence even more. hike it up to infinity

Capital punishment is a thing in Korea, very much in law. Last one was put to action few days before 1998. But that's not what we need as deterrence for something like this "suicide". It's proper investigation and purge of the internal security apparatus, mainly the NIS of course. This nation might see war soon, and a house divided cannot stand.

GolotasDisciple 6 days ago +27
That would be a cool assessment if South Korea were not literally a corporate feudalism state where the biggest corporations own and influence the government in insane fashion. It is a very interesting country and really cool to visit as a tourist, but it is also a hellhole..... But yeah I wont lie. It is interesting to think about how Samsung (in particular since they own half of the thing and directly produce weapons) and others would react to a potential threat of war.

How old was the judge? The age of the defendant is listed, but not that of the judge.

Only 55.

Death by window from the frail old age of 55? Standard procedure I'm afraid.
72

Hard to see it being worth killing a judge for increasing a sentence by 28 months.
558
bwataneer May 6, 2026 +602
Well not that hard if you don’t value human life and are offended and inconvenienced by something they did.

It's to show the nation that the cult still has power and will make you have a Russian suicide if you f*** with them.
10
Blenderhead36 May 6, 2026 +18
Not if you're someone powerful who wants to send a message in case you wind up in a sentencing hearing in the near future.
18
evoslevven May 6, 2026 +14
I mean we see how political obsessions can drive ordinary ppl to weird shit in the US alone. I'm not ready to put it past someone to commit to murder alone on the basis of a principle and to send a message.
14
kaisadilla_0x1 May 6, 2026 +5
It is worth, a lot. What do you think the next judge deciding over that family will think about when deciding their sentence? The choice is between "let the criminals free" or "imprison the criminals and prepare to die".

You know how America is just blatant naked corruption out in the open right now? It wasn't all shiny and upstanding before that, there was tons of corruption. It was just much more discreet. What America has lost since (and the answer to your question) is the APPEARANCE of a somewhat just system.
341
Skabonious May 6, 2026 +424
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say America's corruption has increased in orders of magnitude since Trump took office. The stuff "going on behind the scenes" was nowhere *near* the levels of what we're seeing in 2025 - now. Your comment is both-sidesing a very very very lopsided issue lol
424
jcrocks May 6, 2026 +60
Agreed. Look at the criticism Keir Starmer gets for accepting small things (not excusing it) vs the relative non-reaction about Farage accepting and failing to report a £5m contribution.

America used to be political-thriller level corrupt. Now it is more African-warlord level corrupt. These are not the same.
14
wjdoge May 6, 2026 +41
What does that have to do with South Korea?
41
askjeeves29 May 6, 2026 +99
Dont get it twisted; america is EVEN MORE corrupt in the government than it was. It was corrupt before, but it really is worse now. Its just also in the open

All around the world, the rich and powerful are being more open with the admission that they don’t have to play by society’s rules. Rules are for the plebes.

So when was the date that world leaders and those with power found out they could do any evil thing, even out in the open, in the era of social media and people would care less than ever before. It's like the experiment on accountability concluded and everyone figured out it was not required.
