> South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Saturday accused Israel of failing to “reflect” on allegations of rights abuses by its forces, after Israel decried him for amplifying social media “disinformation”.
> Lee irked Israel’s foreign ministry this week with his comments on a social media video with a caption purporting it showed Israeli soldiers torturing and pushing a “Palestinian kid” off a roof.
>
>“I need to look into whether this is true, and if so, what measures have been taken,” Lee said in a social media post on Friday.
Oh, woah. They allegedly tortured this kid, then threw him off a roof?
Was the kid linked to Hamas, or something?

The official Israeli defense is that, of course, the kid was a "terrorist" and that he was already dead before being thrown off the roof.
Having seen how liberally Israelis apply the term "terrorist" to apparently anyone who happens to be in Gaza while an operation is underway, needless to say I question this official defense.

-129
What evidence do you have for Israel being too ‘liberal’ with its use of the term terrorist?
On October 7, as Israelis who were taken from a music festival, beaten and raped, were being paraded though the streets, there wasn’t exactly a popular uprising to protect them. No evidence of helping hands. No evidence of the righteous Palestinian standing up for ‘not torturing civilians.’
I’m in no way saying Israel is always in the right. At all. But they don’t seem nearly as monstrous as their enemies in any of this.

>What evidence do you have for Israel being too ‘liberal’ with its use of the term terrorist?
Are you just playing dumb or have you actually just never seen statements from Israeli officials and media?
>there wasn’t exactly a popular uprising to protect them.
People are almost always too slow to rise up against evil, even when it affects themselves and those they actually care about. Why in the world would you expect Palestinians who (rightfully) hate Israel to start an uprising because Hamas went too far by targeting civilians?
>No evidence of helping hands. No evidence of the righteous Palestinian standing up for ‘not torturing civilians'
Surely you've seen any of the reports indicating that Hamas was suppressing dissent within Gaza? Whether any Palestinians had qualms with targeting civilians do you really think that once Israel retaliated by striking civilians there would be Palestinians arguing "when they go low we go high"
and willing to fight Hamas for the moral high ground?
>I’m in no way saying Israel is always in the right. At all
What exactly do you think Israel has done wrong? Are you aware of the atrocities they commit and simply unaware that they justify it by calling anyone they kill a terrorist?
>But they don’t seem nearly as monstrous as their enemies in any of this.
Monstrous might not be an exact term but are you sure you're looking closely enough? I could understand this viewpoint a month after October 7 if you had little to no background knowledge on Israel. I don't really understand how you can reach this conclusion today.
You seem to have a problem with Palestinians not coming to Israeli civilians' defense, but surely you're aware that Israelis haven't exactly been standing up for Palestinian civilians, right? Maybe you've even seen the polls showing that the vast majority of Israelis support ethnically cleansing Gaza and targeting civilians. Is this just as bad or do you hold a double standard?
Israel has detained thousands of Palestinians mostly without proper trial. They've just passed a law to fast track executing them en masse as well. Reports and leaked videos consistently show torture of prisoners and those responsible aren't held responsible.
I don't want to power scale morality or anything but what exactly makes Israel appear like the less monstrous one?
39
pubicfart20 hr ago

you have some research to do if you think that. israeli occupation and terror attacks on palestinians did not start on october 7th. google “naqba.”
Yeah they’ve both done fucked up shit to each other. They’ve massacred each other. It seems you can accept that Hamas, Iran, Hezbollah, etc. and others that support them have done fucked up shit to Jewish people and Israel (and there has been. It’s horrific targeting someone for their race, ethnicity, or religion) but can’t accept the opposite has happened. Israel has done the similar things to Palestine and Palestinians among many others. I think it’s fucked up that they both have been doing to each other and then claim to be the moral one.

Israel has done these things far more frequently as well. They carried their frustrations at Europeans and took them out on Palestinians. After totally dispossessing them. Far more Palestinians have been killed by Israel; the numbers are truly staggering. Specifically, the number of women and children Israel has killed.

large numbers of extremist settlers are continually pushing into palestinian territory to effectively further expand israel’s borders. thats just one reason that it just is not true that if palestinians stop fighting there will “just be peace.” and the fact that you think that, and other things you said point to a bias in your train of thought, whether you recognize it or not.

-3
OneMagicMango10 hr ago
To predace I’m on the side of the innocent civilians whether they be Jewish or Arab. No there won’t peace. Don’t kid yourself. This is a cycle of violence that will continually happen no matter what. It’s in our nature and it’s just what humans do. There’s an hatred for Arabs and Palestinians just as there is for Jewish people. Look at that Palestinian prisoner who was sexually assaulted and nothing ended up happening to that IDF soldier who did that. Same thing has happened with Hamas and Jewish people. And I agree it’s so fucked up to go after someone because of their race, religion, ethnicity, etc. but as you can see with ol bibi Netanyahu he wants to continually start shit. Just like Trump and just like Hezbollah, Iran, and Hamas. It’s one battle, war, and attack one after another.
Also if palestians stop fighting what do you think will happen? A group of Israelis will come in and destroy their property and steal their land and house. If Israel truly wanted peace they would be taking care of these settlers and punishing them but all I have seen is the Israeli government is say “don’t do that” and that’s it. And do you not realize when you bomb people you’re just creating more Hamas, Hezbollah, hotuhis, etc. members. They’re angry and they want revenge and same goes for the isakris that join the IDF for the same reason. Israel and Palestinians are very simar in so many ways and I wish more people could see that and come to terms with it. I’m not saying I support it at all, I’m just saying I can see why they’re joining these groups. You can’t bomb an ideology away. It just makes it worse and furthers that cycle of violence. I just want you to see why there will never be peace. You’re right though there will always be crazies on both sides and that’s why the majority need to have this want for this to stop. Right now we’re just revving each other up.
There’s so much hatred and I hate it so much. I wish we could live together in peace and be friends with one another and I hate we can’t.

Of course, throwing a child off of a roof — even if it’s a child you’ve already killed — is horrific. Even the U.S. asked for an explanation *at the time* … which was 2024…
… I think the question is why South Korea’s president randomly posted something from 2024, unprompted. It doesn’t mean that what Israel did here was any less horrific. South Korea’s president posting this now, though, coupled with a weird comment about the Holocaust, *does* come off as a deliberate provocation.

It's not dumb because Israelis are doing the same thing now as they were doing in 2023 or in 2010's and 2000's. It's just that with prevalence of cell phones everywhere, you get caught doing this kind of stuff on video where in 2000, unless you were doing it right in front of CNN cameraman, there was no video.

As a Korean, South Koreans don't take this idiot seriously, so the world shouldn't either.
If you want to understand his nature, he has previously been quoted:
"In Ukraine, a novice politician of six months became president and declared [Ukraine's] accession to NATO, which provoked Russia and eventually led to a clash."
"Why meddle with China? Just say 'Xie Xie' to everyone. China and Taiwan's domestic problems are none of our business."
Yet suddenly, when it comes to Israel and Gaza, he’s all over social media acting like some moral arbiter, shouting about human rights.
Netanyahu is an admirable leader with historical gravitas who understands well that sovereignty is won through the employment of lethal force. Lee Jae-myung is just a typical coward politician that hides behind populist rhetoric and manipulative tactics. They are not even comparable. Korean progressives are a delusional cult that believe that their useless poems about justice and moral conscience can change the world.

Israel is a state of nine million that can't even bomb Natanz without begging the US to bail them.
South Korea is already facing severe economic damage from Israel's war against Iran, and watching the US divert THAAD systems to the middle east. There is no threat anywhere near as scary as what Netanyahu has already chosen to do with the Strait.
Threatening a US ally that holds a huge share of global chipmaking, has a much larger GDP and population and which has massive shipbuilding and artillery production would be a foolish even for the Israeli far right.

Israel is a country with a population smaller than North Carolina. South Korea has 5 times the population and 3 times the GDP of Israel.
Israel’s disproportionate influence in the region stems exclusively from having the backing of the US. The US is no longer a reliable partner because it can swing to diametrically opposed positions every four years.
Israel is also not monolithic. Netanyahu has control due to a fragile coalition of parties. There are a ton of liberal Israelis who hate him and don’t support his war crimes. In any event, Netanyahu is going to jail for corruption the second he loses power which is exactly why he doesn’t want a solution. Bibi wants chaos because it’s the only way he stays out of jail.
