TF you mean, "how to watch". Are there really people out there that don't know how physical media works?

If you read the article there’s also a theatrical re-release… so that’s what they mean

I imagine most people here probably are. 2008 wasn't that long ago and the younger crowd are probably not using Listnook much.

I hate to break it to you. 2008 was 18 years ago. It was a long ass time ago. People born in 2008 are full grown adults now.

Actually during the time Listnook was trying to have an IPO a few years back, all their demo info leaked. Average Listnook user age was 14 at the time. Can't imagine it improved that much since.

Supposedly 41% of listnook users have a college degree. That would mean that the demographic is probably a fair bit older than that.

Taking age out out of it, I doubt even 14% have a degree based solely on most post's content. But that's just me being mean lol.

I just think it's hysterical that he refuses to accept that 18 years was a long damn time ago. The world that existed in 2008, resembles nothing of the world today. At a certain point, you have to accept that you're unc. You're the old guy now. Having clear vivid memories of events that happened 20+ years ago makes you unc. You gotta just embrace being unc. Because the alternative is death. 18 years ago was a long f****** time. And if he was the same exact person that he was in 2008, that's f****** sad. Because 2008 me, would freak the f*** out if I saw what 2026 looks like. Like what? That f****** idiot from that reality show is the f****** president? And this was *after* you elected the black guy? What the bloody hell happened to the world? In 2008 I could buy the biggest meal at Burger King for under $5. I remember getting a large Whopper value meal for $4.75. I would give them a $5 bill, and get change back. 20 years later, that same meal is $17. If you would have told 2008 me that a whopper meal was gonna cost $17, my head would've f****** exploded.

A lot of people think that a film that can’t be instantly streamed for free is “lost.”

Blows my mind that it didn’t do well during its initial release in theaters. DVD & Blu-ray sales were what got it a following.

It was a movie made to appeal to children but it's a property that children didn't care about anymore in 2008.

It also just came out at a weird time in terms of nostalgia cycles. Like... Michael Bay's Transformers movies are starting up around late 00s because kids who liked Transformers G1 in the 1980s were now parents with kids of their own, so they took their kids to see Bay's movies. Kids who liked Speed Racer in the 1960s are like, in their 50s when Wachowski's Speed Racer comes out. They're not going on their own and their kids are too old (high school, college, early 20s) to have their media choices dictated by their parents; the few who are already grandparents, those grandkids are too young still anyway.
I think there's a scenario where like a Speed Racer film works in the 1990s *maybe* because you get that wave of 1960s nostalgia happening. This is why, like, Genndy Tartakovsky does a [Speed Racer parody episode of Dexter's Lab](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/dexterslab/images/a/a1/Mock_5.png/revision/latest?cb=20150319172519) on Cartoon Network in the 90s, I think Angry Beavers did one on Nickelodeon too.

I think it’s rated PG-13; reminds me of the time I convinced Chick-fil-A to play this for family movie night. I think there’s some cursing but use of mobsters that got it there.

It's PG. It only has the mild words like damn and ass. I think it also says "retard" but people were still flinging that one around back then.

Speed Racer was a pretty unpopular brand to begin with. It's still not very popular. You still have to convince people to watch this movie. But it was one of the last movies, before the rise of social media, where the critic's influence could still really tank a movie's release. Now it's been replaced by social media, who tanks movies. And the movie nerds on social media give this movie a pass. I think it's fine. The Matrix is still better. I wouldn't put it at Matrix level of greatness.

Speed Racer is one of the most visually inventive films ever made and it was completely wasted on 2008 audiences. The Wachowskis were 15 years ahead of everyone. This steelbook is long overdue.

Cool Beans. I love this massive drug-trip of a movie and never understood the hate it got. It's about the most picture-perfect recreation of an anime/cartoon with real people I've ever seen.

The new Speed Racer DVD is a very important thing that a collector simply “must” have! Let’s all talk in the cadence of an advertisement!
