"Palestinian actor Motaz Malhees said Donald Trump’s travel ban is preventing him from attending the 98th Oscars on Sunday, where his film, The Voice of Hind Rajab, has been nominated." Saved you a click

So, while T. is still in office, the Oscars must be moved to another continent.

I'm sure we could pull off a decent Oscars night in Canada.

He’ll probably allow travel if they offer him the first Oscar Peace Award

I forgot people still cared about these self aggrandizing award ceremonies

Majority of Oscar’s winners are from the US, it makes no sense to move it because 1 or 2 people can’t get visa

What a mess this administration has made… smh

Wonderful-Pause1048 Mar 14, 2026 +26
It’s an unnecessary spectacle in this day and age, anyway
26
Robokitten Mar 14, 2026 -26
So why move it if it’s unnecessary
-26
BANKSLAVE01 Mar 14, 2026 -8
It would be a spectacle of virtue signaling; to move them to Europe. Worth every karma point farmed, lol.

Are you nominating a movie based on a visa? Are you watching a movie based off a visa?

MAGA is for racist losers. Losers

joemeat Mar 14, 2026 +40
Well most of them are uneducated people who try to force their opinions on everyone around them, so yea.. basically the biggest loser you can be.

coldliketherockies Mar 14, 2026 +13
Yea. It’s also insane how trashy every single person I’ve seen wearing a MAGA hat or Trump gear is. It’s like just to be a person who thinks a president is someone to wear on your shirt or head every day takes some dumb ass mindset

You should see their homes. You can smell them just driving by.

Yep. Racism.

Another virtual acceptance speech and lost revenue on promotion in America  perhaps 🤔  There might just be hidden perks here for the stable genius to ponder

Personally don’t think it should win over Sentimental Value, IWJAA or The Secret Agent. Though I don’t know shit!

This is the only international picture I have yet to watch (tonight!). But I have a hard time thinking it would win over Sentimental Value or The Secret Agent. Better chance than Sirat though. But what do I know?! My two favorite international pictures weren’t even nominated.

What were your faves that didn't get nominated?

CathedralEngine Mar 14, 2026 +1
No Other Choice and Sound of Falling

ectocoolerkeg Mar 14, 2026 +1
Great picks! I'm still surprised that No Other Choice didn't get nominated

Bread_man10 Mar 14, 2026 +1
Dude! No Other Choice would’ve been my pick, top 3 movie of the year for me. I need to see sound of falling. Voice of Hind Rijab is a super emotional watch, absolutely crushing. Not taking anything away from it with my original comment, I think it’ll be tough when two of them are also in BP noms

hueristic Mar 14, 2026 +1
Sentimental Value was my favorite until Hind Rijab. I think SV is better as a film; HR is better as a work of art that affected me deeply. It’s a very blurry line between fiction and docudrama, but that made it even more powerful. Very interested to hear your take!

Bread_man10 Mar 14, 2026 +1
I completely agree with this. I was left without any words with a sinking feeling in my gut after Voice of Hind Rijab. I just enjoyed Sentimental Value so much. I’m a bit bias towards Trier though

I was thinking  of others as well as him affected by the travel ban , how businesses look forward to the revenue from the Accademy Awards that will be lossed due to the travel ban.

Bread_man10 Mar 14, 2026 +3
I don’t disagree with you, my apologies for changing the direction of your original comment. As an American the state of things are simply embarrassing.
3
Canadian1934 Mar 14, 2026 +2
And as a Canadian and Nextdoor neighbour I totally understand  and there is absolutely no need to apologize when it is not you  (Americans) it is them  ( Trump  Administration) we would rather not associate with those type )

TerrapinTribe Mar 14, 2026 +23
Just move every conference, award ceremonies, etc. out of the US. It’s not safe to travel to the US unless you are a US citizen, and even then…
23
Any-Variation4081 Mar 14, 2026 +9
Well thats what happens when we have a racist cruel buffoon as a president
9
mimis-emancipation Mar 14, 2026 +3
Clarity: The US is not accepting travel docs issued by the Palestinian govt, so alternate paperwork must be approved for entry. (Thank you)

Maybe the rich wealthy elite can stop holding these “award” ceremonies altogether.
