Can't wait. My continuing only criticism is that this show should have 22 episodes a season instead of 10. We need space for wacky, offbeat, nonsensical Star Trek episodes.

Lespaul42 Apr 25, 2026 +61
Some forget how batshit the original series was basically on an episode by episode basis when looked at through a modern lens.
61
No_Grape_388 Apr 26, 2026 +39
And yet, they didn't make the crew act like moody teenagers.
39
wrosecrans Apr 26, 2026 +32
They had a drunk episode. And Spock basically invented the trope of being fatally horny. I dunno how much more like moody teenagers you need them to have acted in TOS.
32
AuryGlenz Apr 26, 2026 -3
Most of the time they were complete professionals though.
-3
Lespaul42 Apr 26, 2026 +19
How often should a ship's captain professionally f*** alien babes?
19
polkemans Apr 26, 2026 +17
You bang *one* blue lady and you never hear the end of it.
17
AuryGlenz Apr 26, 2026 +6
It’s funny, I heard that complaint my whole life and I finally watched TOS a few years ago. It wasn’t Kirk throwing himself at ladies; it was the opposite. I just looked it up and he only had sex with 3-7 women throughout the series, depending on how you’re counting.
6
GarrusBueller Apr 26, 2026 +6
Well his mission was "to seek out new life; to boldly go where no man has gone before!" There were some other parts but he glossed over them, and took some liberties. If Starfleet wanted a different approach, they would have made Spok captain. I'd say he nailed the mission. Over and over again.
6
Gen-Jinjur Apr 26, 2026 +6
Moody teenagers should act like moody teenagers.
6
Lespaul42 Apr 26, 2026 -10
No? You don't think Kirk's escapades with the various alien women they come accross was sophomoric? Maybe not. They were too busy with the serious work of transporting mail order brides, or a glowing god hand grabbing the ship, or going to an alien world that is populated with human Nazis or Spock on the spot inventing time travel to solve an issue they were facing where the crew was all space drunk.

LongKnight115 Apr 26, 2026 +14
God, I’d so much rather have everything you mentioned than what we have now.
14
OSUfan88 Apr 26, 2026 +2
That’s not moody teenage. That virulent sexual male prime attitude. That’s not great to modern standards, but is far, FAAAAR better than what we are given tkday.
2
InvisibleLandBorder Apr 26, 2026
Yes they did, you might need to research TOS - and even parts of TNG - again.

AwesomeManatee Apr 26, 2026 +8
A lot of people online complained that season 3 had *too many* wacky, offbeat, nonsensical episodes. Not me, I personally loved it!
8
oldtekk Apr 26, 2026 +2
Yeah I'm fed up of 8-12 episodes shows where every episode has to be a cinematic experience. The great thing about 20+ episode seasons is we got a lot of random filler episodes, that for me at least, felt more like you were checking in on the characters and their world.
2
TheBakula Apr 25, 2026 +13
And yet we still had time for that musical ep. That was f****** peak trek
13
Taskebab Apr 25, 2026 +25
I will be talking about the K-Pop Klingons on my death bed.
25
Lespaul42 Apr 25, 2026 +9
The K is for Klingon.
9
Taskebab Apr 26, 2026 +5
I like to imagine that for all their warrior culture and tough guy image, all music on Qo'nos sounds like K-Pop
5
wrosecrans Apr 26, 2026 +4
A lot of traditional Klingon opera is mopey atonal emo like Aktuh and Melota. But yeah, that's the old fashioned stuff Worf like because he's a Kkingon weeb. The newer stuff is probably catchier. FWIW, there is canonically at least one Klingon Sex Pistols cover band. https://youtu.be/YwhBUSB1iXg?si=Uv7OfvfZf8SjVwUt

Samurai_Meisters Apr 26, 2026 -1
That was the best part of the episode and it was criminally short. Honestly not a fan of SNW, but I do like musicals, and I have to say that most of the songs in that episode were pretty forgettable.
-1
NPDgames Apr 26, 2026 +2
I have nothing against the idea of a musical episode. It wasn't good though. The songs were terrible.
2
Samurai_Meisters Apr 26, 2026
The only good one was the klingon one, and that was barely 20 seconds long.
0
tempest_ Apr 26, 2026 +2
The musical episode would have been perfectly fine a in a 20 episode season. When it became 1/8th of the season and they sandwiched it between heavy emotional episodes it felt like I was getting whiplash.
2
General_Disaray_1974 Apr 26, 2026 +5
I prefer more "strange new worlds" in my show about "strange new worlds".
5
correctingStupid Apr 26, 2026 -4
Stopped watching after that garbage. I don't mind nutty stuff but it was simply garbage so he and zero choreography. I mean, rewatch it. They just walk and sing ai generated quality songs. If you are gonna do musicals. Tap some talent.
-4
BigDreamsandWetOnes Apr 26, 2026 +5
It seriously baffles me how many people praise that episode. I thought it was awful not only for Star Trek but also as a stand alone musical. Just why
5
hashbrowns_ Apr 26, 2026 -1
Theres a musical in this shit? This skinsuit has absolutely nothing to do with star trek

TWO more seasons of whimsical nu trek, thank you very much.
2
BoobaGaming Apr 26, 2026 -4
Half of episodes already bad, with 22 it be disaster
-4
Taskebab Apr 26, 2026 +2
See this is the kind of comment I mean. I was there for Next Gen, DS9, Voyager, and guess what...half the episodes were bad back then too. But with those 22 episodes we got double to good episodes too. And that got the series on course. They got to play around, have fun with it, not "oh no, 1 episode is not to my liking, now one tenth of the season is ruined". You can ease into it and have fun with it with 22 episodes.
2
BoobaGaming Apr 26, 2026 -3
Ds9 had mediocre staff, maybe 6-7 bad episodes whole show. At least it look real. New trek looks horrible with volume shit
-3
Chadwiko Apr 25, 2026 +82
Loved the first two seasons. Season three was a *struggle* though. Needs a huge rebound.
82
0110110111 Apr 26, 2026 +21
Season 3 was rough but had its moments. The season finale was absolute dog shit; I couldn’t believe what I was watching.
21
SuperSaiyanTupac Apr 26, 2026 -1
This isn’t Star Trek! I don’t believe it! Ahhhhhhh
-1
Mu-Relay Apr 26, 2026 +19
It was just wildly inconsistent. There were some great episodes... some of my favorites of the series so far. And easily my least favorite episodes of the series were season 3 as well. You're right, though... it took effort.
19
jl_theprofessor Apr 26, 2026 +18
If I understand correctly the show was hit bad by the strikes.
18
Stupidstuff1001 Apr 26, 2026 +21
Space magic. The show went from sci fi to fantasy.
21
jl_theprofessor Apr 26, 2026 +11
The zombie episode had me borderline give up.
11
dcsmith707 Apr 26, 2026 +2
I cringed so hard when they were all being vulcans, but singing klingons kinda made up for it.
2
UESPA_Sputnik Apr 26, 2026 +1
SNW is the spiritual successor to TOS. Great seasons 1-2, bad season 3. Curious to see how season 4 will play out. (Hopefully not like TAS season 1 😄)
1

And that was when I realised that I forgot to finish season 3. That’s not a good sign.

Awesome season 4 is here...now go pirate it! Paramount is now owned by Skydance which is Larry Ellison's son both are huge Trump supporters and they go against everything Star Trek stands for in the community.

DoctorDrangle Apr 26, 2026
I won't be giving the Saudis a dime if I can help it. I'm still salty about how they are the ones responsible for 9/11
0
Firesky54 Apr 26, 2026 -14
Nope you can go ahead and pirate it. Still going to pay for subscription. You guys can keep crying about Trump and Ellisons for all I care.

Firesky54 Apr 26, 2026 -11
Sorry but unlike people like you I don’t go around and virtue signaling.  Maybe turn off the internet and do some productive things than being keyboard warrior.
-11
radda Apr 26, 2026 +6
You're the one signaling the virtue of paying billionaires for television. Don't project your bootlicking onto me, bub.
6
Firesky54 Apr 26, 2026 -2
Didn’t project anything dude. You guys don’t get to decide where I’m using money for just because you don’t like certain people.
-2
radda Apr 26, 2026 +5
Nobody's deciding anything for you. They just encouraged you to do something. Christ. It's a free country. You're allowed to enjoy the taste of Corpo™. Maybe swish it around in your mouth a little before you swallow. Perhaps a gargle?
5
Firesky54 Apr 26, 2026 +1
> Awesome season 4 is here...now go pirate it! That’s not “encouraged” as you call it. That’s telling someone what to do.
1
wvgeekman Apr 26, 2026 +6
"Virtue Signaling" as a phrase always seems to come out of people who know they're on the wrong side but are either too ashamed or too obvious to realize it.
6
Firesky54 Apr 26, 2026 -2
Nope. It’s easy to see that was virtue signaling. It wasn’t exactly subtle.
-2
Kevbot1000 Apr 25, 2026 +134
I know people are going to fill this with comments complaining about modern trek, or about season 3, but honestly I just love this show and just excited we get 2 more seasons. It's pure Trek through and through, and I never finish an episode upset or depressed.

arkady48 Apr 25, 2026 +41
Straight to my veins. I have thoroughly enjoyed this show since season 1. I tried disco and what not but they fell flat. This was fantastic. Fun and weird and sciencey. Full of monster of the week episodes in a bottle plus through lines. 4 and 1/2 Vulcan will live in my head rent free forever.

So me and my wife started watching TNG on a whim about 10 months ago. She'd never seen it before and I thought she'd tolerate 2 episodes and say nah. We have now watched over 450 episodes of TNG, DS9, Voyager, and are about to wrap up S2 of Enterprise (plus the 4 TNG movies). That's with using some skip/watch guides and skipping some chunks of TNG/DS9/Voy early seasons. (I think there's almost 700 episodes of those 4 shows) My wife now says "this is my f****** show" and she wants to swoop back around and rewatch TNG from ep 1 with no skips. "I'll watch the shitty episodes, I don't care!" She has 0 interest in watching anything else and I have to kind of beg to slip in some episodes of True Detective or The Wire here or there. We've tried out (as in watchd 1-2 episodes of) Picard S3 and SNW S1. Didn't hit. My point is... I don't feel the need to be "thankful" for some "soso I guess" modern Trek when there's neverending supply of classic Trek that bangs like a Mike Jones beat. IDK when the last time you watched TNG Who Watches the Watchers (S3E4) but pop it on and remind yourself how fuckin good OldTrek is.
17
SteamedGamer Apr 26, 2026 +8
Who Watches the Watchers is my favorite TNG - Season 3 TNG was awesome.
8
Dangerous_Return460 Apr 26, 2026 +5
That's my thing. We can talk all day about the SNW (or even Disco or Academy) episodes that are pretty good but show me the SNW episode that comes close to Who Watches the Watchers, Inner Light, Blink of an Eye, The Way of the Warrior, etc. I've bargained my wife to try SNW one more time (previously we've watched S1E1-2 and S3E1 and we both found it pretty dull and all the modernisms of camera work, CGI, side-eye snark acting, etc. jarring and annoying) so we'll see when we finish Enterprise in a few weeks. EDIT: Just showed my wife that trailer. Here 2 quotes. "It doesn't look real." And "It looks like AI."
5
Kevbot1000 Apr 26, 2026 +2
How about you don't assume I'm unfamiliar with the quality of classic trek? With the exception of Starfleet Academy, I've watched every single episode of Star Trek to date along with the movies. Sorry you feel so insulted about my enjoyment of SNW.
2
Dangerous_Return460 Apr 26, 2026 -1
I'm not insulted but I see over and over and over with SNW discourse something akin to "I'm just glad it's kinda pretty good" and brother, not enough hours in the day to make me negotiate with myself on this. BUT! I'm a very specific kind of weirdo and no company should ever market to me or pay attention to me. I have 0 streaming subs (ahoy), and about 2 years ago I made the conscious choice to only watch movies and TV made between 1979-2008 (Alien to There Will Be Blood) and I accepted 99.5% of new media isn't for this guy. I discovered there's probably 4 million hours of ER, X-Files, Sopranos, Simpsons S3-8, Star Trek, David Lynch and Ridley Scott movies, 90's blockbuster action movies, and so on, most of which I didn't see or kinda saw once when I was 9, to churn through for the next solid decade vs. blandly watch shit that Amazon Prime pumps out while scrolling my phone. And yes, I do watch RLM.

I'm doing a watch through of all Trek now. it's really not better, people have rose tinted glasses on tight. In fact I'm going through DS9 now and boy, I can't believe this is peoples favorite Trek show.

3
ITworksGuys Apr 26, 2026 +3
I am not a huge Star Trek fan, I grew up with TNG and DS9 though. I have given most of the new stuff a chance and this show is the only one I have enjoyed. For whatever that's worth.
3
Mm2k Apr 26, 2026 +3
People forget it’s entertainment.
3
myassholealt Apr 26, 2026 +8
Same. I used to watch discovery faithfully even though I liked it less and less. Then I started this one and eventually I couldn't tolerate discovery anymore. I've hit my quota of teary angsty pour my heart out conversations to last two lifetimes thanks to discovery. Strange New Worlds rejuvenated my enjoyment of Star Trek. Then Starfleet Academy came out and I tried again to be a faithful viewer and I'd rather the IP go dormant so the people in charge and in the writers room can move on to other jobs rather then have them continue. Especially since they also decided cancelling strange new worlds was a good idea.
8
Dangerous_Return460 Apr 26, 2026 +5
I can boil down my hate for modern-Trek (and prob modern TV) as 1. Too big. Every single set is gigantic, every hallway is 15 feet wide with blinking 3-D unattached holographic displays, every scene is sweeping with multiple cuts for blinks and smirks, every space battle is a camera zooming through every crevice of every ship in 360 star exploding cascades of light and color, 2. Too emotional. Every action is an overjoyous or depressing hit to the gut that makes you step back and take in the overarching stakes and the butterfly effects of space travel that flutters through all of space time an infinite numbers of times per singular moment that causes introspection. 3. And then just a general disregard for canon and style. Watching it back Star Trek was never "prestige TV". It was episodic mid-budget sci-fi with quirky characters in an established universe rehashing well known tropes and cliches.
5
CucumberWisdom Apr 26, 2026 +5
I doubt it. Most people like SNW It's STD and academy people had issues with

Pure trek? In what capacity?
12
ObviousPseudonym7115 Apr 26, 2026 +14
When people say that, they're talking about the spirit of coordinated exploration and discovery, demonstrations of competence, essential good-heartedness and comraderie; and to some extent the episodic anthology structure that calls back to classic scifi short stories and their ability to explore contemporary ideas and concerns through a facade of fantasy.
14
noctalla Apr 26, 2026 +3
On the competence aspect, the crew tactically thinking their way out of situations, instead of just resorting to mindless action is essential to Trek.
3
Samurai_Meisters Apr 26, 2026 -1
> demonstrations of competence, essential good-heartedness and comraderie Did we watch the same show? The SNW crew lies to each other, hazes the fresh ensigns, shit talks the lower decks, refuse to cooperate because they are embarrassed even if the alternative is death, omit vital information to stroke their egos, and they're all harboring deep dark secrets. The Discovery crew is more professional than them.
-1
0110110111 Apr 26, 2026 +1
> I never finish an episode upset or depressed Even the season finale? I’m generally pretty forgiving when it comes to Trek but my mind couldn’t comprehend how bad that episode was. I rank it alongside Code of Honour.
1
IamAWorldChampionAMA Apr 26, 2026 +2
Season 1 and 2 are Peak Star Trek. Season 3 was the weakest, but I have hopes it can rebound.
2
neok182 Apr 26, 2026 +1
S3 was very weak but pretty normal for Trek to have a bad season. Hoping that S4/S5 make up for it since might be the last proper trek we ever get.
1
thetatershaveeyes Apr 26, 2026 +1
Highly agreed. SNW is basically a throwback to TOS-style stories.
1
InconspicuousRadish Apr 26, 2026 +1
Hard disagree. It has become so focused on hamfisted romance plots, they barely discover or explore anything anymore. That isn't what Trek was about. But to each their own I guess.
1
Armand9x Apr 25, 2026 -4
With paramount, expect many more seasons of slop.

SA_22C Apr 26, 2026 +2
I can’t remember a time in my life that I didn’t like Star Trek. It was on Sunday mornings when I was a kid. We all watched the premier of TNG together as a family. The first movie I saw in theatres was The Undiscovered Country. I say this because Strange New Worlds is the most pure distillation of TOS that’s ever graced the screens. It’s fun, it’s human and it’s hopeful. In these cynical times, we could use a little more of that.
2
Sparkyisduhfat Apr 26, 2026 +2
I’ve been watching Star Trek all my life and this 100% is pure trek. I’ve watched them all, some I like more than others, but SNW has always very much felt like Star Trek. Its overall outlook on the future is optimistic and hopeful, the science is both realistic and fantastical, the political and cultural commentary is both poignant and a little on the nose, it can be silly and serious. TOS was all of these things. TNG and 90s trek were as well. The acting and special effects are the only things that are not consistent with earlier Star Trek, but they are running laps around them. It is pure Trek.

At the start of season 3 this was a must watch show for me. Now at the start of season 4 I'm gonna see what others say about it before I even consider giving it another watch. That's how terrible season 3 was. I didn't even get half way through it.

For me, these Sci Fi TV shows offer me a much needed escape from reality with all the hateful sh\*te going on in the news / world right now. I totally enjoy this Star Trek series and, I enjoyed the other one too, Star Trek Discovery, episode adventures. Sadly, I did not care for the ST Academy series .

I love these newer ST series, both "Strange new world" and "Discovery". Looking forward to watching this season.

Is this show still good? Haven’t watched since Season 1.
