Starmer says he's 'not going to yield' to pressure from Trump on Iran war
It follows a warning from the US president that America's trade deal with the UK "can always be changed".

Who said Trump and America weren't good at nation-building? Here in Canada, I haven't witnessed this much patriotism in my life, since Trump started yapping about the 51st state BS last year. He gave a nice boost to Hungary over the last month as well. Good to see the UK might be coming together now with a nudge from the orange shitgibbon.

Unfortunately he is far from finished with his threats to Canada, to Greenland or his wet dream of pulling out of NATO, regardless of what any of his former allies do.

Most people’s wet dreams don’t involve pulling out unnecessarily.

Its what some chinese netizen call Trump, "Comrade Nation Builder", honoring his efforts to end US global hegemony by destroying the economic foundation of the US, burning all political bridges and calling NATO a paper tiger.

Hell, I'm Irish and I'm applauding the British PM for this!

I haven't seen more level headed replies on a BBC article since before brex... well ever. Here is one of the top ones >The more Starmer stands up to Trump the more I like him and the better he is for Britain. >Now just re-join the EU and we're sorted. Thumbs up 2615, thumbs down 632. Or >For all Starmer's flaws, thank goodness he is not an absolute unhinged, narcissistic maniac Thumbs up 2909, thumbs down 216.

Trump makes mediocre politicians look good, and good politicians look great. It's crazy how far standards have fallen on the right in the past 20 years.

Nothing brings folks together better than hating the same person.

As Canada and Australia (and somehow even HUNGARY) has shown, that criticizing the Trump regime is an easy election win.

Wouldn't it be amazing if all the "4D chess" his idiot supporters go on about was actually true, but his ultimate aim was to strengthen Western nations by being such an absolute bellend that everyone united in hatred of him? 4D chess Grand Master.

What any bully hates the most is someone who does not meet their tantrums and rhetoric with the same furious energy they put into it. Starmer has all the charisma of an unstocked fridge and meets Trumps fire with a stolid and undramatic push back. It is obviously driving trump nuts and I thank Sir Kier for that. All of this is pushing the case for the UK to re-enter the EU. That is something Starmer is very keen to do. If Trump rips up the US/UK trade deal it just makes the case for re-joining even stronger.

Given Brexit was mentioned in the Epstein files it’s likely brexit was nudged by that group of Americans along with the Russian influence - so the opposite of what they want is definitely good

Let Trump deal with it, he's the one that started all of this.

>In his interview with Sky News, Trump was asked how he would describe the special relationship between the US and the UK. He said: "It's the relationship where when we asked them for help, they were not there. When we needed them, they were not there. >"When we didn't need them, they were not there. And they still aren't there." Asked how he would describe the "special relationship", Trump responded: "With who?"

Nor should he. America has gone off the rails, and yielding to Trump would do the same to GB.

If Starmer had any actual balls he would proscribe the IRGC as a terrorist organisation like his shadow foreign secretary said they’d do when they were in opposition; AND like how they criticised the tories for not doing for years when the tories were in power. UK law would allow them to seize the assets of the IRGC of which there are millions if not billions in the UK. That could go towards helping British people through economic hardships caused by islamic republic holding the world economy hostage. But no. Keir does not care about Iran, or even Britain’s population. He cares about the optics of standing up to Trump because he’s counting on international support and electoral support for such an act. Edit: for those who are downvoting me, you can go and read the UK Terrorist Act of 2000 yourselves and see what it outlines.

Bro just shut up honestly lmao. The guy can’t f****** win can he? If he told Trump he’d be joining this war he would rightfully get absolutely castigated. Now he’s told Trump to get fucked (in his own words) you’re here moaning yet still. Ever thought maybe running a country isn’t quite as simple as your own mind?

You're talking to a brick wall. That account is in every post with the same "but Starmer hasn't done this other thing i've chosen" strawman arguements.

To be fair it's not exactly hard to find absolutely terrible policy positions Starmer has taken You can tell when he's doing something wrong because his mouth is moving

Yeah, I highlight the one thing about Starmer that I criticise that’s related to Iran in posts about Iran and Starmer. That’s not an unusual thing.

Nowhere did I say that he should join in the war with military assets. He can tell Trump to get fucked, but at the same time posing it in a way that he’s doing it for the betterment of the British population is disingenuous because Britain is one of the only European countries that has not proscribed the IRGC. I’m also highlighting the hypocrisy of his government. David Lammy made a big deal about the tories not proscribing the IRGC when he was in opposition and loudly stated that labour would do it. They haven’t. Being able to criticise your government is a fundamental right, and as someone who does live in Britain I will criticise what I disagree with and praise what I agree with. In this instance, when it comes to matters of Iran which is my ethnic country that’s being occupied by a terrorist organisation - seeing the prime minister appease the terrorist organisation both domestically and internationally is sparking criticism from me, and nothing that I’ve said doesn’t have a factual or legal standing. Edit: again, I don’t understand the downvotes. David Lammy did say they would proscribe the IRGC, and they haven’t. What is there to downvote?

“This could go toward helping the British people…” oh to be young and naive again.

How can they spin it as "not yielding". The UK is simply too broke and unable to help. Many of the cities were practically bankrupted and the social service costs exceeded even the total income tax. The UK doesn't even have enough warships to fend off Russia intrusions in its own water.

They're just parroting the same falsehoods pushed by the far-right propaganda machine....I'm surprised they didn't go with the "London is now under Sharia Law" bullshit they usually spew out. It's amazing the brain-rot on the internet.

You are aware the US economy is a complete house of cards of debt? It’s propped up by other countries holding US debt bonds allowing it to print money. The US can’t do this forever and it certainly cannot afford its own military either.

Erm....have you seen the US debt ratios recently.....pot....kettle.....and all that!

If any of that were true the US President wouldn't be crying like a b**** and begging for help.

Because there is no other possible reason they wouldn’t want to get involved in a fruitless war with no significant payoff started at trump’s whim. Nope. None at all. It must be that they’re broke from all of that socialized healthcare (which of course we know is evil and bad).
