So the official advice is basically 'dont be an American in public' on a planetary scale. its actually impressive how much damage one person can do to our global standing in such a short time.

Trump is a vessel and scapegoat. It is the entire Republican / Conservative party and machine that are pulling all of the strings.
868
Street_Mood Mar 23, 2026 +198
People are still on about him just being an idiot, or has dementia. Trump is a vessel, a puppet for his extortionists.  It’ll get real when they enact the draft.

Staff_Guy Mar 23, 2026 +89
Billionaires. It is billionaires. They own trump, lots of foreign ownership in him too, obviously. Pretty sure putin is close to 51% or so. Lot of other shareholders, but putin definitely gets his way. putin is also a billionaire. They are just covering their pedo asses.
89
hammertime2009 Mar 23, 2026 +30
It’s been theorized that Putin is the world’s first trillionaire by Bill Browder. Basically he said he’s extorted half of all Russian oligarchs money using the FSB and his own security forces. Basically if any oligarch wants to continue earning money in their country, they pay Putin half of all their profits.

Yeah the Klan never went away, they just went online in the 1990’s and changed their name to “Stormfront”. Then they started doing podcasts in partnership with people like TPUSA.

Exactly. He's the rodeo clown distracting from the real puppeteers. He was put in position in the early 80s to be groomed as they knew he was greedy, amoral, easily manipulated and profoundly stupid. They chose their cult leader well

chcampb Mar 23, 2026 +139
It's not unintentional. If you travel, and go out, and meet people, that is an avenue for influence besides the US media. Which the rich own. The biggest threats to the rich in the US are people deciding that it's OK for the government to tax and do things with it (like basically every other country). So of course, they want to stop peoples' ability to vote, and also, they want to make it difficult to travel and talk to people, and also, they want to know what you are looking up online (sorry, 'age protection'), and they want to... everything that keeps people at home, angry, and voting whatever the nationalists want.

Sounds suspiciously like a different country that Americans, at large, loooove to denigrate. In a positive light, i know and am very friendly with quite a few life-long republicans, and I'm starting to see the cracks for the first time in my almost 30 years living in Texas. Hope it's not too late.
38
karstens9 Mar 23, 2026 +55
Additional context: dual citizen with a European nation. Visited before Trump 2.0, and everyone was a bit aloof and overall positive on the last 8 ish years of our democracy, saying it was a fluke, and that Trump was a blip, a joke that would end. That sentiment ended quickly upon re-election. Everyone who thought they were safe has been proven wrong, one by one. Not to show my hand, but I grew up in Germany in the 90's, and moved to the US in '99. I had to apologize and proclaim myself "not a nazi" when I was 10 YEARS OLD. Just to see this place I've learned and loved to call home become the very thing I was warned about in my youth. Where we are is so beyond words that this is the first time I've talked about it in as many months where I haven't been this honest with my friends or family.

To be fair, the State Department also recently cut the renunciation fee for U.S. citizens ship to only $400. So they are helping people not be Americans abroad.

I hate to say it , but it's true. I'm a Canadian who grew up on the Canadian US border. I live abroad and I used to be happy to meet an American abroad. We share a lot of culturally. I still have American friends, and friends are friends and people are people but I deliberately avoid Americans and anything American now. That Maga shit (and we have some as well) is like a disease.
177
BronxBoy56 Mar 23, 2026 +18
What is with Alberta? Why do they want to leave?
18
Fire_Treadlite Mar 23, 2026 +18
It's a loud minority (even in Alberta) not dissimilar to the Maga movement I suppose .. but Western alienation is also a (seperate) thing, a bigger tent per say. You can be upset with the federal government but still want to remain Canadian. That's my explanation, assuming your question was genuine.
18
TrimspaBB Mar 23, 2026 +6
Just guessing, but they seem to have a similiar history to the American prairie/mountain west which also skews conservative: it's a largely desolate place most people would rather pass through on their way somewhere more exciting, where living is harder thanks to less infrastructure and investment. Those that live there have an independent streak and their faraway government never seems to care much about them. The issues people living in more densely populated areas don't matter to them, but those issues are the ones that get the most attention.
6
rabblerabble2000 Mar 23, 2026 +86
You all were flirting with it hard before Trump was reelected. You came extremely close to having your very own worthless piece of shit MAGA type leader, and had it not been for all of Trump’s 51st state bullshit you’d probably be in the same state as we are right now. Avoid Americans if you want, but just know that the MAGAts and their enablers are not representative of most of us. They’re a loud and putrid minority supported by a group who thinks they can use them to further their own power, but most Americans aren’t like them.
86
BlahBlahBlackCheap Mar 23, 2026 +62

30
rabblerabble2000 Mar 23, 2026 +10
Exactly! A lot of people are acting like it couldn’t happen where they live as though it’s a uniquely American issue…it’s not an American issue, it’s a global issue, it just hasn’t reached their shores yet.
10
boythinks Mar 23, 2026 +64
Can't speak for others, for me it was seeing those images of literal children in cages, and seeing so many people not give a shit... Trump is not the disease, he is a symptom of a much deeper societal cancer of capital buying the political system and decades of lowering standards around education and critical thinking. All that said, while shitting on the US is fun, we are all guilty right now of not paying attention to the same thing happening everywhere; with many human shaped pieces of shits around the world now realising they can use the Trump playbook successfully for themselves.
64
Rhoeri Mar 23, 2026 +278
If it makes you feel better, the idea that he was ever going to jail is a myth. Dude is and always has been entirely untouchable.
278
tetsuo_7w Mar 23, 2026 +424
Only because we have a "justice" system that works for the rich. He was convicted- *convicted*- for 34 felonies and didn't get any sentence at all. What a f****** joke.
424
obi-jawn-kenblomi Mar 23, 2026 +82
It's all my fault. I wished upon a star he'd be convicted of his crimes and spend the rest of his life in government housing. I meant prison.
82

5
Automatic_Gas9019 Mar 23, 2026 +34
I know someone who went to jail for months for 2 ounces of cannabis. You are correct 💯 percent. The "justice" system works for the rich.
34
nelsonalgrencametome Mar 23, 2026 +20
About the same amount made my old roommate a felon and completely destroyed his life a couple decades ago. This is all so fucked and this guy gets to just steam roll a whole country now.
20
Rhoeri Mar 23, 2026 +35
Which lends to my point.
35
probation_420 Mar 23, 2026 +175
He was going to jail for the classified documents case. I think Jack Smith had him dead to rights. Unfortunately, a whole bunch of morons voted for the felon who stole top-secret information from the country. Oh yeah, and tried to ***overthrow the f****** government.*** This country's so god damn stupid.
175
Lordhawhaw-_ Mar 23, 2026 +98
I think he was definitely heading to jail for this and he knew it. His only get out of jail free card was to win the Presidency. I don’t believe for a minute he won every one of those swing states.
98
yellowspaces Mar 23, 2026 +43
Sorry, but I do. A significant chunk of our electorate are single issue voters who only care about being able to buy c*** they don’t need for c****. I’ve heard so many people say “I voted for him because I wanted lower taxes.” That’s it. They’re basing their entire political choice around their pocket. Love him or hate him (and Lord do I hate him), he’s just infuriatingly good at convincing these people that he’s going to put money in their pockets. They’ll (publicly, not privately) swear him and the rest of the party off for a bit after the economic crisis worsens, then we’ll be back at it with the next Republican in the 2030s. They never learn.
43
degeneratelunatic Mar 23, 2026 +37
You're not wrong. But voting for Trump because they wanted lower taxes is such a hilarious take. Save a few top-tier income brackets, most people ended up paying more in effective taxes under Trump than they did his predecessors. I mean FFS during his first term they tried to scrap the mortgage interest deduction. The Mandela effect in action right here. Everyone associates Republicans with lower taxes, but in practice the opposite tends to be true. And people will continue to have this misperception because a lot of Americans don't know exactly how taxes and finances work. Collective idiocy brought us here. It's infuriating.
37
ScarInternational161 Mar 23, 2026 +10
They will crow about the extra 2k they got back in taxes a year, but conveniently forget the extra 7k they spent in healthcare, gas and groceries....
10
Stupidwhizzzzz Mar 23, 2026 +6
For me it’s always been about weird culture war stuff “What policy of his do you like though, like specifically which one really helped you and won your vote?” “I just don’t want trans stuff going on in bathrooms, the left goes too far” ???????????
6
HVNFN4Life Mar 23, 2026 +28
The country is stupid on every level to even allow any man or woman to run for any office in our government that has been convicted, under investigation for crimes , charged and found innocent or has been involved in any illegal or questionable activity that could remotely instigate them. Anyone going into an office that controls a level of power that is in place to make life changing decisions for the people electing them should have no record of any kind. They should not even be suspected of anything that could be contradicting or detrimental to its citizens. If any doubt of their intentions to do right by those that elected them, be it past behavior, present behavior or possible future actions then they should not be electable.
28
regardedMAGAfascist Mar 23, 2026 +23
Been saying this for years. Our standards of governance have been decimated. It’s largely due to our media being decimated by the 24-hour news cycle. It started with CNN and just got worse as time went on, and we’re peaking right now as it has turned into the 24-hour propaganda cycle. The people are stupid sheep and they always have been. The only reason the people are okay with a convicted rapist pedophile as their leader is because their media is okay with a convicted rapist pedophile as their leader. The fact that anyone in the media ever “moved on” from J6 tells you all you need to know about the decline of our country.

It really is astounding. Any other person that eats like him and has 0 physical hobbies aside from golf would have had a heart attack by now. Even your average obese American still has to do basic physical activity like carrying groceries, cleaning, etc. He doesn’t have to do anything except shuffling from place to place. How the hell is his heart still going.
5
Great-Special-2399 Mar 23, 2026 +4
Being pure, undiluted evil protects him from such things.
4
infamusforever223 Mar 23, 2026 +22
It's not just him. America has a history of not putting rich people in prison when they clearly should be there. He never should have been allowed to run for president again after inciting that insurrection.
22
Wentil Mar 23, 2026 +20
He was convicted of ***thirty-four*** felonies. You can’t even be a ***meter maid*** or hold any other public office with even a **single** felony on your record, but the Electoral College, the final guardian and gatekeeper of the office of the President, abandoned its sacred duty and appointed him President despite this fact. The Founders made sure that the popular vote does not determine the Presidency for exactly this purpose, to avoid an unsuitable candidate being placed in office. Alexander Hamilton was very clear about this in Federalist No. 68: > *“The immediate election should be made by men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station… acting under circumstances favorable to deliberation, and to a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice.”*
20
Low-Exam-7547 Mar 23, 2026 +11
I feel like there was a window there for about 6-10 months after Jan 1 2021 there was a chance. He was weakened. His allies had turned away. He would have been a useful patsy for the prior 4 years. He was stifled on social media. But then we waited and didn't strike. And the moment most certainly passed.

This is what I keep reminding people. It isn't just "radical leftists" in the US that are against Trump, it's the whole freaking world. The only people that support Trump make up 0.85% of the world population and it's ruining the entire planet.
254
Quodamodo Mar 23, 2026 +21
Eh, he's popular with my sisters and acquaintances from Syria and that area because "Iran is evil" and "He stops transgender people." I don't bother to argue with them because 1) we're in Canada and 2) they vote the way their husbands tell them to anyways.  (It's a painful reality to me, too.)
21

the afd just got 20% in another landtag in germany, this time in the *west* of germany, and the afd loves trump. i wouldn't underestimate his international support. musk, bannon, and who knows who else are working hard for it.

Quodamodo Mar 23, 2026 +16
Yeah, there's a lot of the world that doesn't care/won't acknowledge his moral bankruptcy... Or history of bankrupting businesses and getting sued for grifting. They just see the anti-LGBTQ+ stance, his war against Iran, his anti-immigrant stance...

As they should be honestly. I don't blame the world for being mad about this.
167
Significant_Swing_76 Mar 23, 2026 +62
Same goes here in Denmark. And we have been the one of the most staunch supporters of America since the Cold War. Not in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that American softpower, goodwill and image could be burned to the ground within such a short timespan. It is absolute madness. Which also makes me believe that this is Trumps end goal - to destroy America from within. Because, it’s the only thing that makes sense.
62
fred_derps Mar 23, 2026 +16
Russian and China’s main goal* He’s just a useful idiot. And it’s not just the US, they want to destabilize NATO and Europe in general as well

UK too. We're done with the special relationship and maybe in 20y time when they look back they'll see 2025/26 as when it ended. Threatening to invade Canada and Greenland to the point the latter actually had to have plans for it: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c33ln4mp1p2o We desperately desperately want to stay out of this war and are sick of our shared military bases that tbh have got us very little in that relationship.
67

A lot of this can be put on the Trump regime. But whoever is next will have job repairing trust.
19
360_face_palm Mar 23, 2026 +6
Even if the next few successive presidents are actual sensible adults, it'll take decades to rebuild the trust Trump squandered. I'm not sure it'll ever come back entirely.
6
feculentcuntfist Mar 23, 2026 +6
There s never going to be trust, the regime will change, but the people who voted it will remain, with no chance of regret or education. No matter what reconciliation tour the next gvt has planned, as long as Cletus exists, kindly f*** off.
6

54

Canadian, can confirm.
17
Into-the-stream Mar 23, 2026 +11
As a Canadian. Same. They went from our neighbours and allies, to now supporting them in any way is socially toxic. And it’s across the full political spectrum from right to left. (except maybe Alberta. That province is rapidly losing friends in Canada because of how they are cozying up to the USA). I have never seen this. I have never seen a blanket boycott on America. I have never seen anger like this. And every day it gets worse.

Can’t stress this enough; reporters in the US let this happen with no push back.
133
Sugar_Kowalczyk Mar 23, 2026 +56
Don't blame reporters - blame the outlets who edit their work. The Washington Post coverage before ad after Bezos purchased it clearly illustrates where the blame belongs, and it ain't the reporters. Fox desk models are not reporters. They're not even talking heads. They're mouthpieces. NOT REPORTERS.
56
abudgiebay Mar 23, 2026 +19
I would pay to see him take a grilling like the politicians get in the UK. Could you imagine him in front of Jeremy Paxman or Andrew Neil in their heyday?! The guy would be a blubbering mess in minutes! Hell, Ben Shapiro barely got two questions in with Andrew Neil before he started bitching, called him a left wing member of fake media (the guy is famous for being very right wing), then said nobody knew who he was anyway and bitched out. A week later (presumably after a google) he had to tweet an apology and just accept he was wrong and wasnt prepared for even the most basic of questions. THAT is the problem. In the US you dont push the point. The journos are too scared of losing access. Its pathetic.
19
Sugar_Kowalczyk Mar 23, 2026 +5
Hopefully UK media laws will prevent you having to witness this occurring there - because these Nazi fanboys and fangirls do have their sights set on it.  Our laws no longer protect journalists here, at all - legally, in terms of political retribution - nothing. Our news outlets are ALL (and I do mean, all) owned by billionaires. They won't PUBLISH the stories you want the reporters to make. And they will bury the stories that leak. And if they ask the question, their paper or show won't run the answer. They just lose access, their job, their home, their healthcare.....that is how the US economy works. Losing a job is losing your home. Period.  Please look closer at what they have the potential to lose here. You will see our situation is much more dire than you think. WE NO LONGER HAVE A FREE PRESS - this is fascism. Finding it pathetic is a bit......privileged.  All I can say is, make your laws about lies stronger and punishments for them harsher. Or you might not have to pay to see it.  Good luck with it.

I very much worry they will *not* be the only ones targeted. If you know anything about Iran it is how effective they are at using terrorism internationally as a means of asymmetric warfare against a much more well armed enemy.
22
witchofpain Mar 23, 2026 +13
There will absolutely be non Americans affected. Maybe not targeted but collateral damage for sure.
13
BadahBingBadahBoom Mar 23, 2026 +14
The 'other people' I was referencing were Americans *in* America. So far it's actually only been Americans in America that have been targeted (Michigan synagogue & ODU shooting).
14
witchofpain Mar 23, 2026 +8
The warning is also for Americans overseas.

timnphilly Mar 23, 2026 +8
May not have voted for him, but still represented by him; we are all in this together, unfortunately. Trump is a reflection on all United States citizens.
8
DefNotBrian Mar 23, 2026 +7
We have pictures of Trump touching Ivanka in all kinds of weird ways, and she's still alive.
7
OnDrugsTonight Mar 23, 2026 +7
Just because she still moves around, doesn't necessarily mean she's alive. Look at her eyes and she looks pretty dead inside.

If they would be willing to fake an assassination and kill others while doing it, there is nothing that would stop them from a false flag.
45
Rhoeri Mar 23, 2026 +30
You mean the one that will allow him to install himself as a permanent king of America?
30
hitbythebus Mar 23, 2026 +13
Is it really a false flag if you bomb an elementary school full of children, stop paying the tsa, put an idiot in charge of homeland security, have a 22 year old grocer running counter terrorism? If you spit on someone and slap them in the face, then knowingly turn around to talk about how great you are for punching him, it’s not a false flag when he punches you in the back of the head. Some Westborough Baptist shit here, being as foul and odious as you can, hoping someone will punch you in the mouth so you can claim ideological victory and ask the legal system to fix it.
13
slothcough Mar 23, 2026 +6
It's still a false flag - a false flag attack is something that the ruling administration coordinates themselves (as in, they would be the ones making the attack and blaming it on their opposition). Any other form of attacks are just standard consequences for their actions.

c4upinhisbhole Mar 23, 2026 +173

Yeah. We *knew* how stop it, but all the saftey features failed and things are beyond out of control. His supporters did this and they'll never take personal responsibility.

How to win the midterms when you have fucked everything up: 1.Gut FBI counterintelligence 2.War with Iran 3.Wait for terrorist act 4.State of emmergency 5.Cancel elections Problem solved.

Considering Iran has said "We have no beef with the American people, just Trump and his administration" .....
75
imatinyleopard Mar 23, 2026 +12
Altjough, Iran’s military also said ‘parks, recreational areas and tourist destinations’ worldwide won’t be safe for enemies. It’s just what happens in war. People aren’t safe.

Not until we deploy nukes. Trump’s 40% approval STILL wouldn’t budge.
37
rainman_104 Mar 23, 2026 +28
I honestly think if he fired nukes it would probably go up a hair.
28
witchofpain Mar 23, 2026 +31
Oh his moronic base would absolutely think it’s great. “He such a strong leader! No one will ever f*** with us now”. But the world would retaliate hard. Not with nukes No one is causing global Armageddon over Iran. But they will cease trading with us, call in our debt, kick every overseas base out, remove the dollar as reserve currency and sanction us to hell and back. Effectively ending us. We would be like North Korea. A full on pariah.
31

As an external observer, I admire your optimism. In reality, world leaders would not do shit.

I am Korean by birth and growing up in the 70s, Americans had this mythical persona. We absolutely adored them. They basically saved us and every one of them to me and everyone I knew growing up may as well have been captain America himself. This continued on until recently. I can’t believe how fast sentiment has changed. I hope one day America finds herself again. I am honestly very sad how my personal heroes are falling because of one man.

3 months. That's the comfortable amount of oil/gas reserves most countries have before the power goes out partially. 7 months before all power goes out. 2026 may be the end all because a pedo who's close to death wants to take the world with him. Good luck.

The only good outcome from this shitshow might be everybody realizing that green energy might be a good thing?
65
D1ngus_Kahn Mar 23, 2026 +38
We've been here before a few times and while there was talk nothing happened and we just doubled down on more oil and gas. 1973, 1979, 2007 all come to mind.
38
EroniusJoe Mar 23, 2026 +35
True, but during those past instances, the world wasn't full of successful solar and wind farms and not nearly as much of the general population were educated on the matter. There's a tangible desire by average folks to go green these days, and if the global media and big oil can no longer hide that fact, we might have a slim chance.

Reminds me of meeting backpackers with Canadian flag patches during the Bush years. I’d ask where they’re from as a Canadian myself out of curiosity, they’d say, oh, we’re American.  Must be pretty shitty being ashamed of your own homeland.

I don't blame him as much as I blame everyone who's enabled him. It's clear he's evil, malicious, incompetent, etc. Everyone could see this, yet enough chose him anyway and still refuse to admit their mistake.

Average Americans are worried about being able to afford healthcare, food and shelter while working at least one full-time job. None of those issues are because of the Iranians. Some Iranian Pistachio farmer or a Cuban Waiter and his family aren't my enemies. The people who make the working class's lives so hard through their weaponized greed are the enemy.

I told my friends and family don’t fly, don’t join the military, and grow as much of your own food as possible until this Administration is out. These people are liars and grifters. They have folks in negotiations with a foreign entity without security clearances, a reality TV star in charge of the FAA, DOD and WH, a Russian asset as DNI and the White House. Come on folks the country is on F*ing fire!

Could this all just be a ploy to try to decrease travel so there are less travelers so he can say ICE fixed the TSA issue without having to negotiate with the Democrats? Of course, there is certainly danger... but it seems like interestingly coincidental timing.

The vast majority of his supporters will never leave the US for travel, so this really means nothing to them.
5
Funny_Hunter_4146 Mar 23, 2026 +4
Trump supporters won't care. The closest they get to leaving the United States is taking a cruise. It's one of the many reasons they're catastrophically ignorant.
4
rstew62 Mar 23, 2026 +5
I thought everyone was supposed to be safer.
5
Memitim Mar 23, 2026 +4
After Republicans completely destroyed any remaining credibility that the US had and turned us into an international pariah, I just assumed that international travel was already considered to be a significant safety risk. Apparently the traitors have figured out how to put us all in even more danger. As much as I love visiting Canada, I couldn't fault any Canadian for treating someone from the nation that stabbed them in the back by threatening their sovereignty as a potential threat, so matter how much I might claim, "but it wasn't me!" They're still being threatened by nuclear armed psychos that keep attacking their own countrymen as well as other nations, so Canadians have no reason to take chances on the folks who continue to fail to clean their mess up.
