It's crazy how far Cum Town has come. Stavvy is making movies and Netflix comedy specials, Adam Friedland's interview show is blowing up. Nick Mullen.

I find that Nick Mullen being Nick Mullen and not doing snything is the funniest shit he could pull off.
90
jopnk 3 days ago +46
He’s doing stuff. He grew a beard last year I think
46
cabose7 3 days ago +63
Adam went from shitting his pants on mic and gaslighting people about breakfast sandwich orders to interviewing governors and senators. What the f*** is this world

WHAT DID THEY DO TO USSSS

ricked_ways 3 days ago +50
Wild too, Nick is like far and away the funniest of the bunch

I liked his special. I hope he does more

MikeBisonYT 2 days ago +6
Nick Mullen as funny as he is just has little drive outside of the stand up circuit. Clearly suffers from some sort of manic depression, making short films, full force of making the Adam Friedland show then bounces.

Netflix needs to let Stav do his version of Maury Povich’s “ you are not the father” show

In a thick Baltimore accent.

“Yew ain’t the fuckin father, yo!”

i’ve always found Stav’s podcast more entertaining than his standup. his standup feels stiff and over-rehearsed. he feels much more at ease as a host/interviewer, and i think he’s better at it.

Drumming_Dreaming 3 days ago +40
He’s got a really funny sense of humour when he’s just riffing. He can get a laugh out of anything
40
kaktusfjeppari 3 days ago +13
his is one of the few podcasts where I'll gladly watch the episode even if I've never heard of the guest (which is tbh most of the episodes) just bc of how strong the riffing is.
13
Tasty-Traffic-680 3 days ago -6
Yeah but it's mostly his laugh and holy shit can that get under your skin after a while. I'm glad he thinks his own jokes are funny but that laugh...
-6
sloppy_cement_farts 3 days ago +6
*but that laugh sounds like a motocross bike that is being kicked started.*
6
charliekirksface 3 days ago +66
Stav on any podcast is funny and his contagious laugh is always great. Stav doing standup is mind of mid. I think like you said he feels stiff and over-rehearsed.
66
Morlik 3 days ago +81
And during the questions part of the podcast he actually gives really solid advice.
81
caninehere 3 days ago +31
The episode with Matt Johnson was kind of unreal in that regard.
31
vo0do0child 3 days ago +9
Great fucken episode.
9
sgeeum 3 days ago +42
he’s got a pretty high EQ, but i mean he gasses up some pretty delusional people from time to time and i’d never actually ask for his advice on anything, but it’s damn entertaining.
42
DisagreeableMale 3 days ago +9
Saw him on tour a month ago or so. He was great. Not stiff to me.
9
CleverInnuendo 3 days ago +8
Not shockingly, his best stuff is crowd work. He's meant for small venues, not theaters.
8
Abradolf1948 3 days ago +5
Yeah but Netflix ain't gonna shell out the big bucks for a podcast. But I do agree with you. However, that being said, I've only ever seen short clips of his podcast so I have no idea if the entire episodes are worth listening to.
5
ZombieStomp 3 days ago +3
I mean they are getting into podcasts. Netflix acquired the workaholics guy's podcast (this is important) Idk how big the bucks where tho

Character_Bug_1862 3 days ago +2
I think they did a deal with iHeart podcasts. Behind the Bastards is on Netlix now. I only ever listen to these things.
2
Staudly 3 days ago +1
Depends on the podcast I suppose. They just gave Barstool's Pardon My Take a ton of money for exclusive video rights.
1
light_to_shaddow 3 days ago -3
The clips you watch are gold Having his laught in your ear for a whole podcast borders on torture.
-3
Lilliam_Pumpernickel 3 days ago +5
His first one (Live at the Lodge Room) that's on YouTube is really good though. That and Gillis' Live in Austin (also his first) are some of my favourite specials in recent years.
5
CMButterTortillas 3 days ago +15
I really wanted to like his stand-up, but its the laughing at his own set ups that just got too much to listen to for a full set. His podcast blurbs I catch are usually pretty good though.
15
nakifool 3 days ago +14
This is the exact problem. That verbal tick of laughing near the end of every punchline is distracting and impossible to ignore over the course of a whole special. You would think Stav, blessed with the kind of bulletproof confidence it must take to rock that haircut, would be secure enough by now to not feel the need to oversell his jokes
14
AidilAfham42 3 days ago +3
I think that applies to many, if not all comedy podcasters. Once its a structured performance, it feels artificial.
3
sgeeum 3 days ago +2
totally, i just think some are better than others at it.
2
SwindlingAccountant 3 days ago +3
I forget which standup special it was that I saw but I remember really liking the first half and then the second half was like weird sex with some lady at a bus stop that was just not funny.
3
sgeeum 3 days ago +3
yeah that’s part of it. i know standups are notoriously immature and suffer from arrested development, but the bald, fat, and d*** jokes got stale a long time ago with him
3
3MATX 2 days ago +2
I like him a lot in tires.  I tried to watch the standup and lasted less than ten minutes
2
sgeeum 2 days ago +1
yeah it’s not great
1
ContestAntique7179 3 days ago +6
Every current famous stand up comedian sucks because they're known for podcasts or tik tok videos, not stand up.
6
Protean_Protein 3 days ago -4
Light on jokes and personality. Heavy on quirks and social network cred. Imagine Emo Phillips but without amazing jokes. You’d be left with repetitive annoying schtick.
-4
_busch 3 days ago -2
why is that a problem...? what was the old system of promoting comedians?
-2
BillButtlickerII 3 days ago +2
I’ve never really watched much of his standup but I’ve watched tons of his crowd work videos and a bunch of his podcast episodes. He always makes me laugh and comes across way more genuine than the entire Joe Rogan crew of comedians. Even when guys like Soder come on Stav’s podcast they seem to tone down the d***** bag bro shit and act more down to earth.
2
Chicken_and_a_fan 3 days ago +1
Lots of comedians are like this for me. Funnier on their podcast than their actual stand up.
1
YounomsayinMawfk 3 days ago +1
I went down a Blake Griffin rabbit hole bc of his appearance on the podcast. Dude is hilarious! His Barkley impression had me dying. [Heavy on the ongion](https://youtube.com/shorts/TaYouhcNL4g?si=fvzx9KnAID4WMj4R)
1
safarifriendliness 3 days ago
I don’t know I loved his bit where he compared Elon buying Twitter to him buying P******. “And put my comments at the top! Everyone needs to see that shit! ‘Dear Lisa Anne, nice t***.’”
0
sgeeum 3 days ago
don’t get me wrong there are some good one liners in there, it just felt like a guy trying to hit his rehearsed lines rather than a natural stand up set.
0
safarifriendliness 3 days ago -1
I think a big part of it is people don’t have as much face to face interaction anymore so people just speak awkwardly around strangers these days. I haven’t noticed him being more stiff than the typical comedian
-1
BlacksmithSolid645 3 days ago +1
same goes for Tim Dillon and Theo Von and likely so many other comics who have podcasts.

That’s because comedians don’t like to burn material they intend to continue using in their sets. Social media ain’t everything man

I want this kind of proliferation from Nick Mullen. He's actually a very good friend of mine. And I'm gay.

endlessfight85 3 days ago +88
I don't think Mullen wants it as much as people want it for him. Cumtown still makes like $30k a month on patreon and has been over for years. I think he's doing alright.

Adam and Stav both put in a little motivation and became wildly popular/successful, even relative to the CT days. The only one keeping Mullen from that seems to be himself, but I imagine that’s by design as he seems either content with the status has or unwilling to change the way he does anything.
40
BillFireCrotchWalton 3 days ago +30
He still has a shitload of money from Cum Town. Honestly, I would do the same. He can just invest it and coast through life doing whatever the f*** he wants. Forget the hustle.

I don't get it, why do people care so much about Mullen getting success. It's never been his style. Let Stav and Adam chase the money and fame until eventually they cave to the demands of the famous or the powerful who will force the two to curtail what they are allowed to do. Stav chose Hollywood, Adam's this close to being a political mouthpiece. But Nick's got all the freedom in the end.

3
ColdCorpseHotSecret 3 days ago +2
Couldn’t make it through. He’s such a stiff actor; all I can think of when I watch him in movies or tv is that it looks like he had to work *really* hard to memorize his lines and he can’t focus on his actual performance. Maybe he’ll get better the more work he does.

Stav is great on the fly and has a quick wit, but he just can’t sit down and write good jokes. I suppose that’s just about every podcast “standup” comedian these days. I can’t even really think of the last great standup special I saw. Standup really is at an all time low, as far as creativity and actual joke writing goes.
