his is one of the few podcasts where I'll gladly watch the episode even if I've never heard of the guest (which is tbh most of the episodes) just bc of how strong the riffing is.

Yeah but it's mostly his laugh and holy shit can that get under your skin after a while. I'm glad he thinks his own jokes are funny but that laugh...

The episode with Matt Johnson was kind of unreal in that regard.

This is the exact problem. That verbal tick of laughing near the end of every punchline is distracting and impossible to ignore over the course of a whole special. You would think Stav, blessed with the kind of bulletproof confidence it must take to rock that haircut, would be secure enough by now to not feel the need to oversell his jokes

yeah that’s part of it. i know standups are notoriously immature and suffer from arrested development, but the bald, fat, and d*** jokes got stale a long time ago with him

Light on jokes and personality. Heavy on quirks and social network cred. Imagine Emo Phillips but without amazing jokes. You’d be left with repetitive annoying schtick.

why is that a problem...? what was the old system of promoting comedians?

don’t get me wrong there are some good one liners in there, it just felt like a guy trying to hit his rehearsed lines rather than a natural stand up set.

I don't get it, why do people care so much about Mullen getting success. It's never been his style. Let Stav and Adam chase the money and fame until eventually they cave to the demands of the famous or the powerful who will force the two to curtail what they are allowed to do. Stav chose Hollywood, Adam's this close to being a political mouthpiece. But Nick's got all the freedom in the end.
