When I was going through Chemo a little over a decade ago I watched an ungodly amount of this show. It was always on. Rest easy

I’ve been sitting in the hospital waiting for my wife to give birth watching this show all morning. I hadn’t seen it in probably 10 years but it’s been on all day.

It’s so funny a show about storage container had a villain with a catchphrase. Honestly some god tier stuff can be cooked up by trash reality TV.

It worked though, and I loved how much drama there was over lockers filled with random stuff.

Me and the Mrs watched the show for hours on end when our daughter was born in 2024. You have plenty more to watch. That’s worth a $7.25 bill right there, easily.

Yeah, hope his son and family are doing well. I know the show was a farce, but I still laughed my ass off at some of the stuff. It's fake, but this was my "Wrestling" for a time. Sorry he didn't have more help.

Yeah I don’t know how to explain it but when I was doing chemo all I wanted to watch was storage wars and cops haha. Hope your brother is doing okay

My father in law found his father at age 9. More brutal tho, shotgun. He's still fucked up about it at age 68
27

That shit never leaves you. I wasn’t even there with my friend but we texted the day before and he seemed fine. I went through hundreds of our texts looking for answers and all I got were even more questions. 💔. I still don’t know why and probably never will. I miss him every single day.

Tragic ending, talk to one another and be kind, mental health is not a joke.
235
Broken_By_Default 2 days ago +76
Sometimes it's not mental health, but a cost/benefit analysis. My friend's father had als. My friend watched his father's body betray him, locking a fully aware human in a body that would not move. When my friend started showing ALS symptoms, he made a hard decision. I don't blame him for it one bit.
76
IllystAnalyst 2 days ago +38
I strongly believe assisted suicide should be legal. And it is a mental health issue. For chronic patients, it’s paired as physical and mental, which is why both psychiatrists and physical health doctors sign off on it. I don’t think theres anything wrong with admitting that the emotional and mental pain that a prolonged and terminal illness has on the patient, family and friends could all be avoided.
38
Broken_By_Default 2 days ago +11
I mostly agree. But I do think a person can make a rational choice. Doesn’t necessarily imply mental health issue. But that’s just like my opinion, man.
11
IllystAnalyst 2 days ago +6
Sorry, I wasn’t clear. It’s an issue as in, it needs to be related to mental health policy. Mental health policies should include assisted suicide as an option for those with a terminal diagnosis. Your friend acted entirely rationally and I’m sorry there wasn’t more support for his decision. I hope he and his friends and family found comfort knowing he avoided so much pain.

In Australia we have legal VAD (Voluntary Assisted Dying) in certain cases. The applicant must have an advanced, progressive, and incurable illness that causes intolerable suffering and is expected to cause death within 6–12 months.

He was known as The Gambler on Storage Wars, hope he's finding all the good loot in the next life, that's a $500 bill right there. And remember boys that it's okay to reach out to your homies or your family if you're feeling stuck in your thoughts. We've all been there. *group hug*
94
masterhogbographer 2 days ago +5
> He was known as The Gambler  Sometimes it isn’t just random mental health, sometimes there’s a catalyst.  If you or someone you know may have a gambling problem there is help out there.  F*** sports betting. F*** everyone who has let it get to where it has.  The U.S. National Problem Gambling Helpline is 1-800-522-4700 or 1-800-GAMBLER, providing 24/7, confidential, and free support via phone, text, and chat. Operated by the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), it connects callers to local resources. For immediate help by state, use the NCPG's Help by State tool.

While I agree with everything you just said I don’t believe a gambling addiction is what killed this man. He reported having an online stalker that was using his name to ruin us reputation around town. Possibly hacking into his information among other things.

I haven't watched many episodes in a while but this and the food network are my hotel binged every time. The episodes with Dave, Darrel seems to just like messing with people but overall is a likeable dude. The ones without Dave had Darrel seem more mean spirited but I also think that was just reality TV plot. The newer-ish ones I saw, he just seemed like a grumpy old man. Not dislikeable just grumpy. Rest in Peace dude, you helped me through my pregnancy with sanity and develop a lifelong love for flea markets.

Some of us are nihilistic people who cope with tragedy and loss with darkly humorous thoughts that revolve around the hopelessness of life and how miniscule we really are in the scope of the universe. The real problem is that we then transfer that though to the internet instead of keeping it as an inside thought.

Met this guy in Hawaii on a family vacation, I was in early Highschool. My brother is four years younger than me and recognized him from the jump. He wanted us to go over and just say “hey, we love the show and you’re the best”. When we went over he said “what show, judge Judy?” And immediately agreed to take pictures with us after talking to my parents for a good bit. Stand up guy and absolutely devastated to hear the circumstances. Check in on your loved ones, tell your people you love them. RIP King.

I met him briefly way back in the day in a strange encounter. It must have been around 2010 or early 2011. My wife and I were at a big outdoor swap meet in Orange County California. My son was a few months old and we were pushing him in the stroller. My wife felt something behind her ear and brushed it away. She felt it again and we both look to see Darrell walking behind us using some kind of feather attached to a stick to tickle my wife behind her ear. It looked like a cat toy or something. We both were like “What the heck?!” and then “Wait, aren’t you that guy from storage wars?!” He just laughed and sort of acted like it was no big deal. He was with a girl who looked a little embarrassed. We honestly thought it was quite strange so we just walked a little ahead and away from him. We found a spot to stop and talk about it and we both had the same reaction of “Did that just really happen?” I guess he thought he was as much of a celebrity that he could do something like that and people would just think it was funny? So strange. I’m sorry for his family and they will be in my prayers while they go through this.

He had just found out and disclosed that he was suffering from some pretty major health issues. Not excusing it, but I know several blue collar men of a certain age that would do the same thing, unfortunately. You live a certain way and then eventually don’t want to deal with the effects of that lifestyle, as they would tend to be drawn out, painful and costly. Poor guy and sucks for his family.

Rest in peace, sadly a lot of the people who were on the show have had it rough.

This really is disturbing to hear the news of his passing. I crossed paths with him recently in a local restaurant in Orange County, CA. He was genuinely kind. I wish his family peace and healing during this difficult time.

Damn he shot himself in th head?? Didn't he find like a million bucks worth of art in one of those episodes? I wonder what happened, the article doesn't really touch on it.

That show was one of a kind. My son who was 10 at the time always watched together. It was our thing. For Christmas one year 2011’sh, I bought him the board game. We had alot of fun with that too.

Dang he seemed so healthy.

It doesn't really matter how healthy (or not) someone is when the cause of death is a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

It’s not really a thing to joke about, he really shot himself in the head.

He’s the second cast member to commit self termination. Mark Balelo did in 2013. He was only on the show for a short period.

just like "unhoused" instead of homeless. if you change the word, it sounds and makes everyone feel better!

When i heard Mark died i was shocked back then. He had a unique presence in the show. It’s sad to hear about Darrell now after not watching for years

Who was cyberbullying him? They should go to prison.

I wonder why he would shoot himself? He was wealthy, had a new wife, recovered from his heart attack years ago. What brought him down so far to do this? Very sad.
