Looking forward to people thinking the secret finale is on there

You access it by secret remote button combinations. Edit: I am sure people can do AI fakes showcasing that.

I miss DVD easter eggs. 😞

clycoman Mar 19, 2026 +16
The Godfather Trilogy DVD boxset had a great Easter egg to access a clip of Tony & and the gang watching a bootlegged copy of Godfather Pt II. Clip in question: https://youtu.be/RkH_86HJCFY?si=LPIAQpkktYyvaZHa

There’s actually a version of Terminator 2 on DVD where you access an alternate version of the movie with a secret remote combination, it’s absurd but also excellent
15
HavixComix Mar 20, 2026 +6
That version just became the "Extended Director's Cut" for each subsequent release (blu-ray and 4K). The DVD Easter egg wasn't difficult, as all you had to enter was Judgment Day (08/29/1997). No doubt, this kinda stuff was fun. Though I recall calling my buddy, whom I'd borrowed the Criterion DVD for "Memento" from and having to ask him how to get the friggin thing to play the movie! Had I already seen the film, the menu would have made sense and I could have figured it out. But I went in blind. I never got to see the "Chronological Cut", which has never been on any later release, though there are plenty of YouTube essays that basically give you the jist. Certainly an interesting experience for a film that has consistently been in my top 10 favorites for decades.

Maybe the sike was the good show we thought we were watching on the way

ironwolf1 Mar 19, 2026 +9
Stranger Things is far from the first big popular show to have a controversial ending and it will be far from the last. Even in good circumstances, no ending is gonna make everyone happy, and the situation with Stranger Things is still a far cry from something like the way Game of Thrones went down the drain.

I’m not saying it as a flex, it’s more about “remember how bad it can get” than saying anything particularly favorable.

I had fun. People are weird about inconsequential media.

The show is good.
12
Kalse1229 Mar 20, 2026 +5
They should do a parody scene making fun of that. Like how on the DVD release for IT: Chapter One, an alternate opening scene was shown where Georgie takes the balloon, says thanks, and runs off, with Pennywise just saying "Well shit." Something like that would be funny.

How the heck is the US'  biggest TV show outsourced to a third party for physical release? I know these are desperate time for physical, but it's surreal
1
2347564 Mar 19, 2026 +16
Netflix uses distributors for all of their content as far as I know. They have a couple movies on Criterion, like Okja and Kpop Demon Hunters is upcoming.
16
Morgan-Moonscar Mar 20, 2026 +10
Criterion's gonna keep the lights on in the closet for a long time by distributing KPOP DEMON HUNTERS.
10
Guilty_Jackfruit4484 Mar 19, 2026 +7
Are they supposed to buy a factory to print a single series?
7
Mindless_Bad_1591 Mar 20, 2026 +1
better than not having it. so many tv series dont get a physical release nowadays.
1
kneeco28 Mar 19, 2026 +211
Within 6 months of the end of the show seems really fast actually. Which is great, but I don't get the *finally*
211
Captriker Mar 19, 2026 +97
In the article it states that not all seasons have had a physical release.
97
LooseSeal88 Mar 19, 2026 +63
Correct. I believe they stopped after season 2. Which was roughly when they also stopped doing DVDs or Blu-rays for any of their original shows/movies. So, the question now is, will this open up physical releases of other Netflix shows, or is this simply an exception they made for Stranger Things?
63
kneeco28 Mar 19, 2026 +36
Frankenstein and Kpop Demon Hunters are both being released via Criterion.
36
LooseSeal88 Mar 19, 2026 +20
Criterion is the only exception they have made to my knowledge which doesn't apply to the TV shows or any movies that don't get critical acclaim.
20
noelle-silva Mar 19, 2026 +5
Not entirely true. VIZ has managed to release some Netflix exclusive anime, such as all of the Castlevania seasons, Nocturne, BLAME!, all of the Netflix exclusive Pokemon and JoJo seasons/movies, etc. They have mentioned that they had a connection within Netflix that helped them get these but I'm assuming Netflix is open to licensing if the deal is right.
5
idkalan Mar 19, 2026 +5
For anime, it's because Viz is co-owned by Shueisha Productions (Shonen Jump). Which means they can bypass Netflix and deal with the Japanese license owners, as they have final say not Netflix for whatever Jump properties that Netflix streams
5
DiligentTradition734 Mar 19, 2026 +8
Now we need a true dvd release of Bojack Horseman.

magic_cabbage Mar 19, 2026 +5
Haunting of Hill House and Bly Manor have physical releases.

At a minimum, it gives me hope that Fincher's Netflix catalog can get physical releases.
1
TediousTotoro Mar 19, 2026 +1
I know that Wednesday has gotten a blu-ray release (though that show is made by MGM)
1
LooseSeal88 Mar 19, 2026 +1
Yes, the shows made by other production companies are allowed to, it seems. Cobra Kai is all out on DVD and Blu-ray now, for example.
1
TediousTotoro Mar 19, 2026 +1
I know the first season of The Sandman got one. I don’t think Netflix’s other big DC show, Sweet Tooth, got a physical release though.
1
keving87 Mar 20, 2026 +1
Sweet Tooth season 1 did.
1
keving87 Mar 20, 2026 +1
> So, the question now is, will this open up physical releases of other Netflix shows, or is this simply an exception they made for Stranger Things? I doubt this is a wide Netflix deal with Arrow, it seems more likely the Duffers did the legwork, like Alex Hirsch did with Gravity Falls for Shout. I think a lot of people assume Netflix original = owned by Netflix, but when they're produced by another studio those typically retain home video rights. Which is why things like The Crown, The Haunting of, Wednesday, Umbrella Academy, etc etc got BD releases, or all those Dreamworks series got DVD sets. Stranger Things on the other hand, is owned by Netflix, so it getting a release is big news.
1
Old-Meringue3590 Mar 19, 2026 -7
The question is are there any Netflix original other than Stranger Things that actually deserve a physical release? The Crown already got a complete series release. So what else is left? Ozark? Mindhunter? They have been making some great limited series though—When They See Us, Maid, Queens Gambit, Beef, Adolescence, Baby Reindeer, but I don’t think we really need a blu ray for these.
-7
woasnoafsloaf Mar 19, 2026 +7

Dark
6
thisisjustalink Mar 19, 2026 +7
We need a blu-ray or 4K release of Dark. The show is truly fantastic and it’s a major shame it’s stuck on the streaming service only
7
totalysharky Mar 19, 2026 +4
I think every show and movie should have a physical release instead of being stuck on servers to be removed whenever Netflix or any other streamer feels like it.
4
LooseSeal88 Mar 19, 2026 +2
I would like to own A Series of Unfortunate Events. Season 5 of Arrested Development also never got a DVD.
2

All of the Mike Flanagan miniseries. Every single one. Edit: for longer shows, Daredevil season 3 never got a Blu Ray release. I'm hoping that Disney put out a 4k set

Still waiting on a Bojack Horseman complete series release CMON NETFLIX
11
kianworld Mar 20, 2026 +1
Netflix doesn't hold the rights to do that, The Tornante Company (the Michael Eisner owned studio that produced the series) does. They did the first two seasons with Shout Factory then oddly never followed up on that.
1
CorrodedYam Mar 21, 2026 +1
Yeah, I know, and it’s a bummer too. I do believe the other seasons got released on dvd in for the “for your consideration” thing, but I’m not too familiar with how that works. For now, I guess deal with my unofficial copies.
1
mildmichigan Mar 19, 2026 +42
270 dollars is pretty high. Hopefully we get a not-so-deluxe release in the future
42
kianworld Mar 19, 2026 +31
They're also doing less deluxe sets for $180 (Blu-ray) and $200 (4K), which seem to be just the discs (still in a big box with 5 individual cases inside) and a booklet. Netflix seems to indicate these will be stocked in mass retail too so it'll presumably be available at Walmart (which usually cuts down the price a decent chunk). Arrow Video also tends to have half-off sales at Barnes & Noble though I forget what months of the year those typically happen
31
mildmichigan Mar 19, 2026 +8
Now thats good information, I have a Barnes & Noble membership. Hopefully I can grab a cheaper set that way, thanks for sharing.
8
kianworld Mar 19, 2026 +3
I looked it up and it seems like they do half-off sales for Arrow around February and August, while Criterion is July and November usually. The Arrow ones seem less set in stone than Criterion so you might want to keep an eye out
3
eightslicesofpie Mar 19, 2026 +3
The B&N Arrow sale is typically in either July or August, and this comes out July 28, so right around release you should be able to get it for 50% off msrp (so for the standard editions, $110 for 4k or $100 for regular)

19
ascagnel____ Mar 20, 2026 +3
Fun thought exercise: - ST has a total runtime of just over 45 hours  - one VHS tape can hold about 2 hours of media So the full run of Stranger things is 23 tapes, with no special features.  Those 23 tapes would be about 2 feet wide, if the spines were out, and weigh about 10 pounds if they somehow all came in one giant cardboard sleeve.  Then again, I'm an idiot that bought my copy of Rez Infinite on cassette (it was a Steam code, and the soundtrack is on the tape) and I have the Mini Disc version of Umurangi Generation's OST.

5
SunilClark Mar 19, 2026 +8
i think here we have a prime example of the disconnect between what companies think people wanting physical media means and what it actually means. by all means, do a $200 collector set, but make sure there’s a $40-50 standard release for people who just want to own the show, and don’t really care about all the extras or the highest possible quality or any of that.
8
natedoggcata Mar 19, 2026 +7
There is. The delxue set is $230 with a bunch of extras like patches, an art book, art cards etc... https://www.arrowvideo.com/p/4k/stranger-things-the-complete-series-deluxe-edition-4k-uhd/17782513/?utm_medium=Twitter_post&utm_source=Organic_social&utm_campaign=Stranger_Things There is also normal set for $200 that is just the discs. https://www.arrowvideo.com/p/4k/stranger-things-the-complete-series-4k-uhd/17782511/?utm_medium=Twitter_post&utm_source=Organic_social&utm_campaign=Stranger_Things
7
WingardiumLeviussy Mar 20, 2026 +3
Lol, might as well get the deluxe atp
3
HavixComix Mar 20, 2026 +4
I mean, for 40ish hours of 4K content, an MSRP of $150+ isn't really a surprise, especially when Netflix DOESN'T do this (they experimented with a few blu-ray releases but stopped). This is obviously something to test the waters, that is a safe bet of making profit. I doubt there will be a scarcity, so just wait for a Black Friday deal and get it for 60% off. A note on blu-ray: even if you only get the 1080p release, you're lucky if it saves you more than $30. It's 2026. Time to upgrade, friends.
4
caninehere Mar 20, 2026 +1
> i think here we have a prime example of the disconnect between what companies think people wanting physical media means and what it actually means. There's also a big disconnect between how popular people think physical media is and how popular it actually is. > by all means, do a $200 collector set, but make sure there’s a $40-50 standard release for people who just want to own the show, and don’t really care about all the extras or the highest possible quality or any of that. The thing is, with DVDs/Blurays, the camp of people who want to just own the show and don't care about any extra anything AND want to have a physical collection of it is rather small. Mostly you have two camps: a) geriatrics who don't understand the internet or streaming very well and just watch physical media and b) a limited number of people who are still really into physical media and WILL pay out for these deluxe editions with more limited runs because they want all the extras and stuff. And yes, there's also a limited number of people who don't like streaming AND want to own physical items who will buy the basic editions. These groups of people, though, are very small. There's a reason why you can go buy DVD or even Blu-ray seasons of shows used for basically nothing. It's because people want to get rid of them. Myself, I'm actually someone who likes physical media and I collect video games, but I do it less than I used to because of the way the industry is moving more into the digital realm, and with movies and TV I purged my collection a long time ago. I went from probably 200+ DVDs/Blurays to like 10 and only kept those because they sentimental value. I tried to sell them and did sell some, but most of them I ended up just giving away because it wasn't even worth the time. And this was in like 2019. As an example, Paramount (who I'm not defending her because they suck d***) put out a Blu-ray remaster of Star Trek TOS years back. It seemingly did not make a ton of money but did *fine* enough, but keep in mind they consider Star Trek the biggest draw to their streaming service and they want to build it (which is also why they stopped their licensing deals with Netflix). Fans clamored for a while for them to do a TNG remastered collection, and eventually they did it. And then (despite it seemingly being a good remaster collection) not enough people bought it and they took a bath on it, so they aren't going to do any more. Also, $40-50 is basically nothing. This is 5 seasons of a recent show with very high production values. $40-50 for the entire show would be basically giving it away, that isn't worth it to them when they could potentially get you for even just a couple months of Netflix to watch it. All that said - if I'm a Netflix exec, I would want to have an arm to do limited releases of their shows and make it like the Criterion Collection. Pump it up big time to make it look impressive, put out a limited release of X show once it is no longer a huge draw for the streaming service, and then try to make some money off of the people who will buy a fancy collection of the show. There's not much upside to doing a basic release. Most of the fans who care enough to buy a physical thing in 2026 will want to get the silly extra stuff you can't have from just streaming the show or pirating it. The OTHER reason buying physical is better than pirating IMO is that you can more easily switch to different language tracks, if the show/movie has them. But most people don't care about that, most people are just going to watch in one particular language and not want to change it.

artur_ditu Mar 19, 2026 +8
Y'all can say whatever about this series finale and for me as a fan it was absolutely Underwhelming but I've been saying for years that streaming studios should release stuff on physical media. It's the next directors cut. They're f****** dumb not to milk the cow Ps: the season was bad but the last episode, i loved it. Crucify me.
8
BurgerNugget12 Mar 19, 2026 +10
I thought the final season was underwhelming but they absolutely nailed that last 40 minute epilogue imo, especially Steve, perfect perfect send off for him
10
artur_ditu Mar 19, 2026
Exactly. Imo the last episode felt like it was actually all they had. Not to mention they where exactly in the middle of the biggest strike in the history of cinema. Screenwriters, directors and actors for half a year right when they where making it. Regardless what I'm saying is that these companies are idiotic to not release shit in hight quality. Compression sucks so maybe someone wants to watch something at the intended quality
0
BurgerNugget12 Mar 19, 2026 +1
I’m definitely going to be picking this up, especially the 4k one as some scenes probably look amazing as they were intended For me the show legit got so massive that there was just no pleasing everybody, sure you can nit pick the season to death and yeah the final battle was underwhelming, but I’m just happy for me that the epilogue was so well done. Seeing Steve pick up Dustin from school legit brought a tear to my eye. I also loved the ending credits
1
Different_Pop_3079 Mar 19, 2026 +6
As someone who loved the final season, I think everything snowballed at once and caused the reaction to be mixed - the strike, the gaps between volumes, and the Duffer Brothers' having some poor writing choices and blowing it up to be bigger than it actually was. I think it was good, just not this mind-blowing finale that could've been great. But the epilogue was so beautiful, you can feel the emotion and heart in everything about it. Even in the behind-the-scenes, the camera-man was tearing up when he filmed Finn walking up the basement stairs.
6
BurgerNugget12 Mar 19, 2026 +3
Really well said man. Yeah I enjoyed it too, but for me you can definitely tell it just took way too long / the writing was just so off, which is so unusual because the duffers are fantastic writers when they are on. I love Holly as well but just felt like we spent way too much time with that storyline and focus on her The epilogue was gorgeous, the passing of the torch moment at the end was so well done, and you can tell how real that emotion must’ve been for the actors putting their books on the shelves
3
Different_Pop_3079 Mar 20, 2026 +1
To me, it was a lot of Netflix meddling, and I’ve noticed it since season 4; the constant flashbacks, the need to explain things so many times, and in the end, people still complained they were confused when it was spelt out to them. The documentary showed how much the execs were on their necks, and they were putting the finale off for as long as possible. I still think season 5 had great writing moments, I think the penultimate and finale is where it buckled. The kids thing, I’m sure they wanted to emulate what made the first season so special since the original kids were so grown, hence the whole “passing of the torch”. I loved Holly, Derek, and the kids, but I do understand why it was jarring someone who was a background character become part of the main cast overnight, even if she was so great.
1
artur_ditu Mar 20, 2026 +3
Agree with all of that. And such a good show when everything is said and done
3
Different_Pop_3079 Mar 20, 2026 +1
Exactly. Nothing to the levels of Breaking Bad or The Sopranos, but I think it’s a solid 8/10 show with some great highs, just certain stuff holding it back from being a 10/10.
1
imaginarion Mar 19, 2026 +2
Neat.
2
keving87 Mar 20, 2026 +2
Streaming shows getting a physical set is always a good thing. It's an even bigger win when said show is one actually owned by Netflix and not one of the properties produced by an outside studio. I'll get the normal set, I don't need all that extra junk... and while the prices are reasonable for the number of seasons and content length (we're getting ~$50 4K Disney steelbook-only releases now because Disney and Sony's partnership is bullshit), I'm going to need to wait for it to go a bit cheaper.

Old-Meringue3590 Mar 19, 2026 +6
Stranger Things: The Complete Series is scheduled to release on July 27th in the UK and July 28th in the US and Canada. Arrow Video is pulling out all the stops for this one. While there will be standard and special editions available, the main event is the 25-Disc Deluxe Edition. Priced at $269.99 / £219.99 for the 4K UHD version, the Deluxe Edition is packed to the brim with over five hours of bonus features, exclusive collectibles, and brand-new wrap-around box artwork by Juan Ramos. Speaking on the historic collaboration between Netflix and Arrow, Dean Lawson, Arrow Films’ Director of Sales and Marketing, had this to say: **“Working with the Netflix team and the Duffer Brothers to bring the definitive physical media release of ‘Stranger Things’ to fans has been a phenomenal project for Arrow to be a part of. The show is colossal in influence and scale, is beloved globally, has transcended generations, and has been a huge part of the cultural conversation for nearly 10 years now. We at Arrow are thrilled to play a part in bringing this landmark show to physical media and believe we’ve created a box set that fans will be delighted to own, packed with bonus features, curios, and memorabilia from the world of ‘Stranger Things.’”**

Remember when three years in the 80s took 12 years? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

$270 for 42 episodes People are out of their f****** minds
1
toddywithabody Mar 19, 2026 +3
There’s a regular version if you don’t want to spend that much.
3
fazzle1 Mar 19, 2026 +4
The regular version is still like $200, right?
4
jackcopen Mar 20, 2026 +4
It’s not a bad deal for the 4K. $40 a season is pretty in line with basically every major TV show (4k wise) and Arrow video constantly has markdowns.
4
fazzle1 Mar 20, 2026 -2
$40 a season is fine for a full length season, but here you're paying $5 per episode
-2
jackcopen Mar 20, 2026 +2
What does full length season mean?
2
fazzle1 Mar 20, 2026
At a minimum 13 episodes but realistically 20+ Yes, TV show season length is a boomer hill I'll die on. 8 episode seasons are abysmal for both the viewers and the overall quality of shows.
0
jackcopen Mar 20, 2026 +1
I’d agree 8 episodes tends to be too short, but I also think that quantity ≠ quality. More than anything in this set I’m curious about how much the liscensing costs for Arrow to release this set.
1
fazzle1 Mar 20, 2026 +1
You're right that more quantity doesn't always equal more quality. But this is straight up DVD shrinkflation. You're getting less episodes so you should pay less money for it.
1
Different_Pop_3079 Mar 19, 2026 +1
Apparently, this company is known to do mark-downs or cheaper versions in time, so there might be hope it'll be cheaper. I'd kill to have the series physically, but I agree that nearly $300 is excessive, even with all the bonus features.
1
Really_McNamington Mar 19, 2026 +1
Between £130 and £160 here, depending on format and luxury extra extra version, should anyone be interested. A little too rich for my poor-ass blood at that price point.
1
Joey-WilcoXXX Mar 19, 2026 +1
Okay now how about A Series of Unfortunate Events? Or Glow?
1
bungerD Mar 19, 2026 +2
I would kill for Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
2

SAME. And a season 2

Put it on VHS
1
lachlanhunt Mar 20, 2026 +1
A VHS or Betamax release would be quite fitting for a show set in the 80's.
1
mybotanyaccount Mar 19, 2026 +1
On VHS?
1
TangeloRough9202 Mar 20, 2026 +1
F****** sweet

I'll wait for the special betamax edition.

If there isn’t a VHS release we riot
1
zowietremendously Mar 20, 2026 +1
They should put it out on VHS.
1
RogueSnake Mar 20, 2026 +1
Just as I'm half way through the series. Might as well wait so I can watch it in glorious 4k. Cause even though I do like the film grain it would be nice to have a resolution increase
1
devingr33n Mar 20, 2026 +1
Gawd, finally! It’s been literal months after the finale aired
1
Sparrowsabre7 Mar 20, 2026 +1
I hate that we've gotten to the point where "popular series releases on physical media" is news. It used to only be a question with anime and some international titles.
1
MartyBellvue Mar 20, 2026 +1
We got the first three seasons as SAG screeners being in the union so that's all i'll need personally hahahahaha
1
BassWingerC-137 Mar 20, 2026 +1
I didn’t go beyond season 2 with the show, but I will support any and all physical media availability.
1
KingSpork Mar 20, 2026 +1
Missed opportunity to do a VHS release
1
ClintSlunt Mar 20, 2026 +1
NOW DO BOJACK! I blame creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg (and/or his agent), in part because he signed on for another Netflix show, Long Story Short, which would have been the perfect time to negotiate the rights to a physical BoJack release.
1
GRVrush2112 Mar 19, 2026 +1
I really hope this sells like hotcakes and Netflix can take a clue and relents a little on putting some of their other stuff on physical media. I have bootleg copies of The “Fear Street” trilogy and “The Ritual”. The transfers are good enough and the quality is good as well…. But I’d still like to get official releases of that stuff.. actual uncompressed 4K.. better than you can get on their site, and with bonus features
1
SmellyFloralCouch Mar 20, 2026 +1
“The Ritual” Don’t give me hope

i immediately pre-ordered the no frills 4K version! i'm not happy to spend $200 + right at this moment in life but i do love this series.
0
brahbocop Mar 19, 2026 +1
I ordered the deluxe 4K and didn’t even think twice. Not only do I love the show and want it physically but I want to put my money where my mouth is and do my part to encourage Netflix to continue doing this.
1
HavixComix Mar 20, 2026 +3
All they have to do is upgrade their existing releases of Hill House/Bly Manor to 4K and I'll rebuy them. Then create new releases for Midnight Mass and House of Usher (plus Before I Wake!) Hell, I'll shell out for Midnight Club if they make something like an animatic that ties up the loose ends (Flanagan made a Tumblr post when it was canceled that revealed all of the major beats that season two would have had). I only got the blu-ray sets for the handful of commentary tracks that Flanagan had to basically self-produce and beg the distributor to put on the physical release. Plus the compression while streaming in "4K" makes so much of the fun stuff hiding in the frame less effective. The 1080p discs upscaled are arguably the better choice.

RandomExcess Mar 19, 2026
Finally we will see the secret finale!!

C-tapp Mar 19, 2026
“Finally”…. As if the series didn’t finish just 3 months ago. “Fans have been waiting a lifetime for this one thing….”

brahbocop Mar 19, 2026 +1
Netflix rarely, if ever, releases Netflix originals on physical media.

It's great that this is getting a physical release. But after the final season, I have no desire to buy this.

I am sorry but stranger things has been milked to pieces, please just stop. Please bring back other shows that deserve the funding rather than trying to keep it relevant. I am upset they cancelled shadow & bone for this show because they didn't have budget. Hell bring back old shows like travelers, altered carbon, those were some fun to watch sci-fi shows.

Goldmtnpottery Mar 19, 2026 -6
What people would really hate to know is how close to reality stranger things is. (Torturing kids and creating deep trauma in small children to make extremely manipulatable kids) ie: MK ultra program. For example. A known victim of this is the uni bomber. Please don’t support this show and tell people you know that this is the reality. Thank you for your time.

The series just ended. Whats this FINALLY nonsense?
-3
jackcopen Mar 20, 2026 +3
This is the first time season 3 and 4 are getting physical releases, so it is finally for those seasons. The original season 1 and 2 4Ks are out of print for ages now and are crazy expensive.
