Don’t worry, Vance is going to head the peace talks in a few days but they may be unsafe so it’s likely he won’t be there.
We still need to get him up to speed because he was stumping for Orban in Hungary, who was passing on intel to Iran, the country Vance’s country is currently bombing because, get this, they violated the ceasefire (which may or may not have even existed) in under 24 hours, likely because the US has no actual control over its ally, Israel who decided Lebanon wasn’t part of the deal when Iran said it was.

How can you say Vance was stumping for Orbán, even be started his speech by saying he wasn't there to tell Hungarian how to vote, right before he said they must stand with Orbán because he stands with the God of our forefathers, even though Orbán is Catholic and Vance is definitely not Catholic, and the only Hungarians who care what he had to say are already Orbán supporters so his visit likely had no impact?

Both sides are talking about at least 2 complete different proposals. It's not clear what was agreed. Probably both sides are lying.

Trump may be lying, but Iran is definitely lying too, for a different reason of course.
I'm from iran, and it's really funny how the government is getting blasted again for this deal.
They told their supporters there would be NO ceasefire between the US and iran, and suddenly, on the 40th day since Khamenei's death (40th day after the death of a person is a huge deal in Iran's culture) they made a deal with his killer. (Some speculate it was an order from china, and that's the reason for the sudden change of heart)
So, to make sure their supporters (mainly hardliners) won't criticize them, they released the 10 point proposal to save the face.
Of course, some of the points may be true, but expecting the US to accept them is a big reach. They may be lying to keep the hardliners happy.
Obviously, regime haters also are against the ceasefire too because they think it gives the regime a breathing chance, so again, it's really funny how this is getting Criticized by both sides of Iran's politics.

Can you expand more on the 40 days thing? That's a really interesting thing that I haven't read before.

Its a religious thing, but since we practiced it for centuries, everyone does it even if they are not religious. Also details may be different based on where people live, but the basics are usually the same.
Basically, we mourn the dead the day they die and when we bury them(obviously). Then, we mourn them again on the 3rd day after their death, a week later, and eventually on the 40th day (and sometimes even a year later, if that person was really really close to us such as father or mother. You may also mourn them evey year on the day they died.)
I cannot specifically explain what Iranians do in these mourning rites, because it heavily varries from a culture to culture (and iran is a country with huge number of different cultures, such as Persians, lors, kurds, turks, beluch, arabs and many others just living few hundred kilometers from each other. But it usually means meeting the mourning family in their house or a nearby mosque, offering our condolences, sometimes helping them with money to help the mounting family and mourn alongside them for a few hours.)
So if you barely knew someone who recently died, you just show up in their funeral. The closer you are, the longer you have to mourn, basically if someone like a father or mother dies, you are expected to wear black clothes for a year or not shave for 40 days.
Your best friend? 40 days minimum. a distant family you sometimes talked to? Maybe 7 days at max. Which obviously includes the funeral, third and seventh day. Though you can show up on the 40th day as well, no one stops you from doing that.
What's important is, you are not supposed to dance, party, marry or things like that, until the mourning is over to honor the dead and the mourning family. For example if your grandparents died recently, you are not supposed to marry someone or hold a ceremony for at least 40 days.
Now, 40th day was important because it was the last day everyone was supposed to mourn the Khamenei, 39th day wasn't that important nor 41th day. That's why making a deal on the 40th day of Khamenei with his killers was offensive to some, to say the least.

Wow that's really insightful. So you think because it was specifically on the 40th day that there was some intentional malice/disrespect?
Thank you for writing all of that out, that's very interesting.

I think it's a coincidence. Trump's deadline was ending on that day, so they either had to swallow their pride or let the war estate.
Maybe trump picked that with that intention, but i doubt that he is that smart to actively plant a distrust between regime and its supporters.

Varies by culture and family. I can’t speak to how the person you asked goes about it but the 40 days of mourning is common among the Abrahamic religions

Thats because there was public discussions and private discussions (according to Karoline) and....everyone was left confused. Or they just made it all up to manipulate the market, again.

They agreed to a ceasefire, opening the Strait and a meeting to discuss proposals. Hopefully its direct talks this time because most previous negotiations were indirect talks.
I'm not optimistic about talks leading to the end of the conflict.

It's insane to me that further bloodshed and global energy strife is being threatened by Israel continuing to be belligerent to its neighbours. Do the US have no power to reign them in?

This is the problem with nuclear proliferation, Israel potentially has nukes, and whilst the US definitely has more and a defense against them no one wants to fight a nuclear power.
