Student kills nine in Turkey's second school shooting in two days

“Fellow pupils” feels incorrect. These were not classmates, these were younger children he had no connection to. Edit: I am aware that fellow pupils is technically correct (they were all pupils in the same school). That is why I said it feels wrong rather than it is wrong. This child, who knew the school, targeted younger students. When I read “fellow pupils”, I assumed peers, which is not the case.

Poor kids, and all so young. What kind of crises was the shooter in that he decided to do this. It's just sad all around.

Just look at the world these kids are growing up in. It's suffocating to see the odds stacked against you with seemingly no way out. And most of the time, they've been abandoned by the world, with no support system through family or community, and then left to their own devices. Recipe for distaster.

I've seen it discussed by some mental health professionals. Essentially the act at its core is a public suicide. Oftentimes the perpetrator feels they've been "wronged" by society. Therefore they want to do as much damage back to the society they resent. It's sort of like when someone cuts their arms. Some people do it for the release but others do it as a way to show externally their internal pain to others. In the case of a school shooter they instead use murder to not only "get revenge" but to openly portray that pain they feel inside.

And guess who’s getting the blame in the mainstream media right now? Video games. They’re planning to bring in restrictions on gaming and access to games. Honestly, we live in a country that feels like a joke..

Words can’t describe how sad and angry I’m right now, who to blame, the sorrow these families are going through right now must be out of this world.

Young people are being raised in an increasingly hostile environment designed exclusively to keep them struggling in order to extract as much wealth from their labour as possible. Meanwhile wealthy elites r*** children and murder civilians with zero consequences. Wealth disparity is increasing. The climate is dying. Prospects of a good life are dwindling. We are an out of control train hurling towards certain death and anybody with any power to do anything tells us to shut up, stop whining, and get back to work/school. I'm a grown ass man now, but these are all feelings I felt as a child living in a much rosier time and place than these children today. I honestly don't understand how more people don't do drastic, psychotic things every day.

It's extremely isolated and rare outside the US, thankfully (for everyone else). Hopefully this doesn't spur a bunch of copycats in Turkey though.

Yet another thing to thank the Yanks for. Copycatting is a huge issue with violent crime.

these 2 are the first school mass shootings i have heard of in turkey. there are some targeted killings but not random mass shootings like these

i think kids are copying other kids with same narrative. And the most important part is kids do get world news to their phones with social media very easily, there are no age limit to what news you can see

This is the first time. There have been some murders in universities before (like in 1980s) but they weren't mass shootings. That’s why this is so shocking and devastating.

It’s easier to have a scapegoat than to look inwards at your own faults.

According to the article it is heavily restricted, but overall seems to not be too uncommon in general if one works or worked in security. The shooter in this case had a former police officer for a father and took his weapons. The father got arrested, at the least I would assume for possible negligence in restricting access to them.

It's that damn Grand Theft Auto and Marilyn Manson! If we just went to church and listened to Gregorian chant, violence would disappear overnight! /s
