A 14-year-old student shot at least nine people dead including eight of his fellow pupils and wounded 13 others at a middle school in southeastern Turkey on Wednesday, officials said, in the country’s second school shooting in two days.

“Fellow pupils” feels incorrect. These were not classmates, these were younger children he had no connection to.
Edit: I am aware that fellow pupils is technically correct (they were all pupils in the same school). That is why I said it feels wrong rather than it is wrong. This child, who knew the school, targeted younger students. When I read “fellow pupils”, I assumed peers, which is not the case.

Poor kids, and all so young. What kind of crises was the shooter in that he decided to do this. It's just sad all around.
113
tertain3 days ago
+9
Is there ever much variability in the crisis? Usually bullying and cruelty. There’s never any consequences to bullying. Adults turn a blind eye or brush it off as something all kids go through. Eventually the killer sees no other option. Yet we continue to refuse to come down hard on bullying.

That's an insane thing to believe in. Just the other day I watched a video of a pregnant deer getting eaten alive by a komodo dragon, with the baby literally torn out of her belly and eaten while she was still alive too. And you better believe such gruesome deaths occur on a daily basis in the wild. Most predators don't bother making sure their victims are dead before they begin chewing.
And that's not even to mention all the other animals that straight up kill for entertainment.
The idea that humans somehow are the only species with the capacity to cause suffering is completely insane, especially considering that humans are the only species that even *cares* about the suffering of *other* species.

Just look at the world these kids are growing up in. It's suffocating to see the odds stacked against you with seemingly no way out.
And most of the time, they've been abandoned by the world, with no support system through family or community, and then left to their own devices.
Recipe for distaster.

I've seen it discussed by some mental health professionals. Essentially the act at its core is a public suicide. Oftentimes the perpetrator feels they've been "wronged" by society. Therefore they want to do as much damage back to the society they resent.
It's sort of like when someone cuts their arms. Some people do it for the release but others do it as a way to show externally their internal pain to others. In the case of a school shooter they instead use murder to not only "get revenge" but to openly portray that pain they feel inside.
67
eeeeeeeeeeeeew12 days ago

Yeah, you’re right. We’ve let the kids down, the education system, society, parents, all of us. You wouldn’t believe how clueless and uninvolved parents are here. And guess who’s getting the blame in the mainstream media right now? Video games. They’re planning to bring in restrictions on gaming and access to games. Honestly, we live in a country that feels like a joke..

The ripple effects alone are so hard to even imagine… I don’t even want to know how many suicides this has already caused whenever there is a shooting like this because some kids have seen things usually only found on gore sites.
It’s so incredibly incomprehensibly sad.
Like, I can imagine it, I can try to feel into how those students felt, but nothing could ever be worse than being there in person seeing your friends get killed.
Hell on earth seriously. If there’s a hell it definitely has competition already. How can anything really beat this in terms of horrific nightmares.

Young people are being raised in an increasingly hostile environment designed exclusively to keep them struggling in order to extract as much wealth from their labour as possible. Meanwhile wealthy elites r*** children and murder civilians with zero consequences. Wealth disparity is increasing. The climate is dying. Prospects of a good life are dwindling.
We are an out of control train hurling towards certain death and anybody with any power to do anything tells us to shut up, stop whining, and get back to work/school.
I'm a grown ass man now, but these are all feelings I felt as a child living in a much rosier time and place than these children today.
I honestly don't understand how more people don't do drastic, psychotic things every day.

Yeah I know a lot of people don’t like hearing it but these mass shootings, are more of a recent phenomenon despite guns being easily available. However Gen Z is the most depressed and lost generation and susceptible to negative influences more than ever. The guns weren’t ever really the problem it’s the fact so many are miserable and feel devastatingly hopeless. If the government is heading this direction now I’d hate to imagine how it would look if we didn’t have guns

The real story ended up being much crazier. He was targeting a Korean cult that had heavy influence over japan. Shinzo Abe was just the closest public figure with ties to the cult. And crazily enough it led to the Japanese gov trying to dismantle the cult inside japan.

This happened because of a failure to adress mental health issues obviously. It’s the draw of capital from the people that’s creating the mental health crisis.
This doesn’t mean every perpetrator is poor, as the mental health crisis then expands past its original bounds through things like social media

According to the article it is heavily restricted, but overall seems to not be too uncommon in general if one works or worked in security.
The shooter in this case had a former police officer for a father and took his weapons. The father got arrested, at the least I would assume for possible negligence in restricting access to them.
