If you don’t want to click on the article and wonder where it was at: The shooting happened at Hill Country College Preparatory High School in Bulverde, the Comal County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post. No other injuries were reported. Authorities have not said what may have led to the shooting. The teacher was taken to a San Antonio hospital

I don't find this shocking given the current way of the USA.

Honestly I’m kind of impressed that Trump’s stupidity kept any of us from reading about a school shooting for what, like a whole month? That feels like a record these days.

There was the shooting at Old Dominion University on March 12th.

Sadly just because people didn’t hear about it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. At the rate shootings happen in the US, I wouldn’t be surprised to see it just underreported

Wow 12 days w/o a mass shooting during March. Idk what is normal but it’s sad that my first impression was that number was lower than I thought.
49
Flat_Sea1418 Mar 31, 2026 +43
26 shootings in January and 31 in February. Defined as where four or more people are shot. Sad statistics.
43
Intelligent_Sky_7081 Mar 31, 2026 +20
And somehow if three people are shot it's not worth being on that list. Which is wild. I guess you gotta draw the line somewhere

Sorry to say, but I wouldn't have found it shocking fifteen years ago either. The overturning of Roe V Wade and the general erosion of what America apparently stood for is shocking. The continued school shootings is a constant.

When no students get shot, it makes me wonder why just that teacher. Did the teacher prevent a tragedy? Was the teacher the target?
1174
MidnightElfinTv Mar 30, 2026 +831
It happened 20ish minutes before classes started. It’s likely no one else was in the room or it was targeted.

If they shot themselves after the teacher I would be inclined to say targeted. Given the student was still able to shoot themselves after, a mass shooting doesn't seem to be the plan.  Speculating on limited info here of course, so probably wrong.
164
Objective_Regret4763 Mar 31, 2026 +42
I’m from a nearby area. From my understanding it was a public suicide attempt and the teacher tried to stop it. Now, this could be totally wrong, but that’s what I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend that works there. These things can be much more complicated than they first appear.

With teens, it's very hard to pinpoint what caused this as they can't control their feelings that well. It could easily be something as simple as a failed grade or a revenge for something more serious.
69
BlueSlickerN7 Mar 31, 2026 +23
I know you don't mean it to sound like that, but you're putting way less credit on teens as you should. We don't know the case given, but teens can still strongly react to something horrible. No normal teenager is going to murder someone over a failed a grade unless they really have something off with them. This could be something severe like the teacher was abusing them and it was going unreported because, of course it would. I wished we'd be more human with cases like this.
23
3BlindMice1 Mar 31, 2026 +34
You're absolutely correct, however not every teen is a *normal* teen. The teacher could have really done something awful to that kid, but just as likely, the kid was just super pissed about something dumb and suicidal.
34
AndalusianGod Mar 31, 2026 +9
Yeah, didn't mean like that Just meant to say that we should wait for the reports to come out.

1398
SendFeet954-980-3334 Mar 30, 2026 +84
You are correct. With the order this one is, I wonder what actions or events took place that caused a student to shoot this teacher specifically before shooting themselves.
84
techleopard Mar 30, 2026 +77
These kids give 5,000 warnings of their escalating behavior and it goes ignored because schools don't want to remove kids anymore until they do something that the police have to step in about. And sometimes not even then.
77
Genetics Mar 31, 2026 +56
Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like you’re blaming the schools for school shootings. Out of curiosity, do you work at a school? Are you familiar with the laws regarding taking kids out of school due to behavior issues? It’s changed a lot in the past few decades. It’s *very* hard to remove a kid from the classroom, and if they’re on an IEP you can almost forget about it. We have a teacher with a deep stab wound on her cheek from a kid stabbing her with a pencil. It barely missed her eye socket. She also has fractured ribs because when she went down on the ground the kid started kicking her and didn’t stop until someone came and pulled him off of her. His parents are **extremely** litigious and have money. They’re also one of the loudest critics of the school on Facebook, which is typical. The kid had been kicked out of 3 private schools by 5th grade. For **two weeks** while the mandatory meetings and appeals were taking place, the teacher had to teach that kid in her classroom and treat him like nothing happened. They finally gave him in school suspension. That’s it. No charges, nothing. He gets to go to a different class with a different teacher. No other consequences. When the SRO (school police) called the mother to inform her of what happened, her first words were “Well what did she do to make him so upset?” I could tell you about 20 other students with similar incidents off the top of my head, and we’re considered one of the top public schools on our side of the state. If I had to pick the main reason for the unbelievable amount of entitlement I see in a lot of these kids that end up assaulting teachers or students, it’s because the parents don’t discipline their kids at home. They have zero understanding that actions have consequences, because in their world, they don’t. The world revolves around them and they get whatever they want in life. They don’t know how to self regulate their emotions, and by the time they get to high school, they still have the emotional maturity of a 5th grader. TLDR:A lot of parents suck at parenting.

Bonezone420 Mar 31, 2026 +23
Except even in the past this shit still happened, and nothing was still done about it. The two freaks who shot up columbine were nazi assholes and when they did what they did rather than reporting the truth most of the media, and everyone except their f****** peers, straight up lied and said they were just poor bullied outcasts who snapped when basically any examination of their behaviour showed pretty overt red flags and warnings. And no one gave a shit. School shootings aren't actually new, columbine was not the first school shooting in america, they were just pretty deliberately under-reported for ages and kept out of the news because it makes people look bad when they just look the other way for years until shit like this happens, and nothing has changed and nothing will change because no one wants to change.
23
phitfitz Mar 31, 2026 +11
The teacher should have pressed charges. F*** litigious parents, I would have resigned the moment they said that f*** had to be in my classroom again. Parents can sue all they want, that kid will end up in the justice system and they’ll have no one to blame but themselves.

Acts of desperation/despair. People who have meaning in their lives and are invested in their futures don’t end up taking opiates or shooting up schools. If kids are looking forward to a future with meaningful work and stable career paths they can plan for the future.

Or perhaps a fulfilling life that doesn’t revolve around work… The 9-5 isn’t the life most people dream about.

24
A_Nonny_Muse Mar 30, 2026 +14
There are plenty of people who could only dream of having a 9-5. And actually getting paid for the hours they work.
14
Tileas3 Mar 30, 2026 +19
Obviously, but I highly doubt that a 9-5 itself is the pinnacle of their aspirations, merely that it would improve their immediate material conditions - in the belief that it will enable them to pursue what it is that actually makes them feel fulfilled.
19
whatssenguntoagoblin Mar 30, 2026 +49
I mean you’re not wrong. But the damage these people can do will be minimized by their access to guns. The solution isn’t to ignore their mental health and not try to improve it. The solution is to do both. Japan has a mental health crisis among young men. You know how many gun deaths the entire country has? Fewer than 10.
49
KGb_Voodo0 Mar 30, 2026 +31
I’m very much so a huge gun proponent, but I try to be unbiased and rational as possible. That being said I do genuinely find the idea that the “genie is out of the bottle” a huge hurdle for any serious conversation regarding major gun reform in this country. I can’t see a realistic way to round up the millions of guns in the hands of Americans nor how you’d not allow a grandfather clause as my state is doing with their AWB.
31
zakabog Mar 30, 2026 +25
You don't need to round up all of the guns, just digitize the ATF databases, require all sales and transfers to be digital, and mandate reporting of stolen firearms within a reasonable amount of time (90 days or so, maybe 12 months for a secondary residence.) That would drastically cut down on gang violence so we can stop hearing about how "gun control doesn't work", since you can no longer just drive to Georgia and pickup a few firearms from your "cousin", and it would keep stores/people from claiming firearms were "stolen" after they've been used in a crime. Then to cut down on teenagers getting access to firearms they shouldn't have, require firearm safes starting after a certain date, offer tax breaks to purchase said safes. You'll still get the occasional school shooting, but by then gun violence will be drastically reduced so we could actually have a rational conversation by then.
25
linux_transgirl Mar 30, 2026 +7
Also, improving the material conditions of the citizenry also goes a very long way. The Czech republic and Switzerland both have pretty lax (albeit more strict about the procurement) gun laws with a lot of guns per person compared to most of the world. The difference is their news isn't trying to make them angry and the people have things in life to look forward to other than surviving

This was a college prep STEM public high school. Doesn't seem like lack of opportunity was an issue with this.
19

You can have every advantage given to you and still feel despair about your future with the way the world is going.
35
A_Nonny_Muse Mar 30, 2026 +23
The higher the expectation, the greater the fall. Imagine having it all handed to you, but with the expectation that you will excel. If you don't, if you struggle, that image alone is enough to make you shunned by peers and authorities. Now you have to deal with both rejecting you and everything about you. You don't fit in. You're weird, an oddball, a loser. Everyone wants you to change your core personality. And you're under everyone's microscope. Anything you do confirms their low opinion, justifies their rejection, further isolates you. People pick on you, take advantage of you, bully you, make fun of you. And then they all wonder why you resort to violence.

62
f1del1us Mar 30, 2026 +45
Nobody cares that the vast majority of gun deaths are suicides. It’s literally just glossed over and the tools are blamed for the mentally ill actions people take with them, because mentally ill isn’t worth treating under capitalism.
45
minidog8 Mar 30, 2026 +45

I don't believe it's about gun ownership at all. There are plenty of other countries with prolific gun ownership who do not have this problem. Instead, I think it's about our culture of excessive competition. More specifically, how be beat down those who lose until they have nothing left to lose. Then we wonder why they resort to violence. Competition isn't unique to the USA, but we take it to another level. An insane level. Just look at how we like to punish those who lose. We deliberately withhold health insurance, our police deliberately target the poor - we kill them with impunity, we stick their kids in underfunded, dangerous schools, we deliberately take food away from them, push them into debt, exploit them beyond the limits of any civilized society and blame them for being poor. Even our religion - prosperity gospel - claims they are poor because they are hated by God and being punished for some immorality. And that gives people some moral imperative to treat them like undesirables... the American version of *Lebensunwertes Leben*

The only real true answer would be inventing a Time Machine and going back 150+ years to change history. Every other suggestion is either temporary or just unfounded confidence in an idea the general populous would agree with. I’m not saying gun control isn’t needed, but I truly think we are too far gone to have any real changes.

Right outside here in Detroit a six year old girl was fatally shot and killed by her 11 year old brother. There was five kids in the car. The mom left them alone in the car with her sixth kid, the eldest, to go shopping. Mom also left the gun, loaded, unattended and not locked up in the same car. It was an accident the brother didn't mean to do it. But it happened.

Teacher is not dead. Hopefully they stay alive and get well. Kid’s the one who is dead.

So eager to get meaningless upvotes off of a tragedy that you can't even take the time to read the article first lol dipshit

I really hate that we are so desensitized to this shit that many people’s first reaction is to make a joke about it. Like I understand that we make jokes because we all know that this is just going to keep happening, but the reality is that kids in American schools are being traumatized over and over again and our first thoughts are how can I be sarcastic about this?

I’m 25 and I’ve never known a life without school shootings in the headlines.

It’s okay. I’m about to be 36 and I don’t really remember a time without school shootings either. Columbine happened on my 8th birthday.

mortavius2525 Mar 30, 2026 +79
The first time I heard about a shooting like this I was horrified. The second time I heard about a shooting like this I was horrified. The 467th time I've heard about this, I'm tired.

LuciusCypher Mar 30, 2026 +8
These days someone getting shot is a punchline. Getting murdered and getting a slap to the back of the head are used for the same jokes so much that _you_ are the weird one for pointing out how fucked up it is to respond to a petty debate with death threats. "Thinskinned" you'll be called, or "new to the internet".

Humor is a common coping mechanism. And there's only so much anger one can burn through in a given day. There's enough shit out there to keep us enraged 24/7, but that's no way to live life.
31
existonfilenerf Mar 30, 2026 +20
What do you want us to do? I was a kid when Columbine happened, I thought for sure as an adult this madness would end after Sandy Hook and a bunch of children were murdered. I've voted Democrat and for gun control my whole life, I'm a registered gun owner who wants to see the laws changed. What are we supposed to do other than laugh at the failure of our elected officials?

Put the parents on the stand. Where'd he get that gun from?

Creative-Hyena-2666 Mar 31, 2026 +13
From the constitution!! I think Texas especially will just put this in the "it is worth this to have guns" pile.

My favorite is when the shooter is a MAGA trans person and conservatives choose to only focus on one part (Yes sadly MAGA trans is somehow a real thing)

The real issue in all of these cases is how everything flies under the radar for YEARS. Everyone is always shocked. That's the REAL problem with these school shootings. We have absolutely no community anywhere.

Where was Greg Abbott? Obviously the people of Texas cannot expect him to keep them safe from mentally ill individuals who possess firearms.

When I was in school and heard of other ones being forced to need metal detectors I thought it was insane.. this was 11 years ago. These high schools, no matter which one, need them now.

Modern cuntservatism is a failed political philosophy. It has America's children killing each other, it has ruined education, it has created a financial chasm between the haves and have nots, it has destroyed the government and allowed corruption the likes of which have never been seen before in America, and most importantly it has divided the nation completely. It is long past time to accept this as the norm. America can be better, but we have to turn our backs completely on religious fundamentalists and move forward. We need to remove religion from the government if Americans ever want to experience peace and security.

What happened between teacher and student beforehand?

My mom called me about this worried about my siblings that go to a school really close. Really hope the teacher pulls through.

I’m not American. So can an American explain it to me like I’m 5yo why the owner of the gun isn’t being charged?

It'll be interesting to see how this story shakes out...
3
mansan1394 Mar 31, 2026 +3
sadly so many things wrong with this. Crazy how the only place in the world that has this issue says its impossible to prevent. Even just across the border here in Canada, school shootings are unheard of.

6
omegadirectory Mar 30, 2026 +15
Beyond the obvious gun control solutions, we should also be looking at the motivation of the shooting. A student does not shoot a teacher at random. If you can't solve the underlying cause (hypothetically: bullying, unfair treatment of student by the teacher, unresolved grudge, teacher abusing the student), then these incidents will keep occurring but with other weapons.
15
Small-Skirt-1539 Mar 31, 2026 +2
You mean the sort of problems that would have otherwise resulted in the student saying "f you" and throwing a pencil case?
2
rottentomati Mar 30, 2026 +16
Now where did he get that gun. Hmm.
16
ghostofmufas Mar 30, 2026 +16
if you ignore a majority of nations and how they’ve implemented gun controls then there really isn’t a solution to the gun problem in america
16
DingerSinger2016 Mar 30, 2026 +12
If y'all were wondering why teachers should not carry, a teacher carrying wouldn't stop this.
12
cardboardunderwear Mar 30, 2026 +31
More shootings if teachers carry anyways.  Look at how many cops shoot people through panic or by misunderstanding the situation. And of course suicide by cop.  Teachers will have even less training.
31
Small-Skirt-1539 Mar 31, 2026 +5
Can you imagine it? A "show me your hands" situation in every classroom?
5
Cyanora Mar 30, 2026 +7
Exactly. You're asking a cop to walk into a situation and judge who the 'good guy' is, as if they're not trained to treat everything and everyone as a threat already.
7

Every officer thinks their RoboCop. But act like Ed 209.
