I wish more ppl would follow suit, I think only established artists can get away with this kinda stuff and be this successful with it. But if enough of them stop posting on streaming then ppl will become less dependent on it is the hope

It had a hell of a lot of hype, helped by him posting the full album on Youtube (ad-free!) a couple weeks before the physical dropped.

Back in 2023, The Coral put out a physical-only album (Holy Joe's Coral Island Medicine Show) the same day as their main release of the year (Sea of Mirrors). Both of which are follow-ups to their Coral Island concept double-album from 2021. I'm a huge fan of all three. Great narration tracks in both Coral Island and Holy Joe's

One of the best live shows I've ever been to.

Saw him at the Paramount in Denver when he toured a Sailor’s Guide, absolutely incredible

I was at that show. It was amazing

Unfortunately though it was the Paramount. Was at that show. Might be my least favorite venue in Denver. Seating is too tight and too many people insist on sitting and get mad as the rest of us who dance. Thankful we'll never have to see him there again

tothesource Mar 26, 2026
if there is seating, you shouldn't be dancing.

SUPLEXELPUS Mar 27, 2026 +1
I can't count how many times I've been at shows with seating and the artist encouraged people to dance in the stands. this is like saying if you're at a basketball game with seating, you shouldn't be standing.

lol

😆😆😆😆😆 that's funny. It's music, I dance. And you know what? Music is not a visual art. My dancing doesn't impede on anyone's ability to hear the art

I’ve seen deadheads dance, and I’m not sure I’d call it dancing. Lots of spinning and twirling, tho’.

Ok Cool

When he ended his show in Asheville last year he said “Go home and tell all your friends you just saw the goddamn best band in the land” and I couldn’t argue. Them boys can play.

What the comments aren’t saying is that this album absolutely rocks too.

You should check out the comments on the Saving Country Music review. I'm not posting the link because I can't support them

I haven't been there in years. Those people are miserable. Everybody knows that pop radio bro country is hot dogshit. They think that having that opinion makes them enlightened. They're pretentious hicks.

I discovered him via his cover of Nirvana’s In Bloom. Been working my way through his discography ever since.

Metamodern Sounds in Country Music is one of the best country albums I’ve ever heard

captainedwinkrieger Mar 26, 2026 +17
He did a pretty good cover of All the Gold in California for The Righteous Gemstones.

I kept seeing that dude and thinking "man, that guy is a dead ringer for Sturgill Simpson" finally looked it up and was still surprised, he's not a bad actor!

RisingSouth Mar 26, 2026 +6
He was great in Killers of the Flower Moon

cwaterbottom Mar 26, 2026 +2
Oh I've been meaning to rewatch that, I couldn't get into it the first time and I think I completely missed him! I didn't expect to hate so many of the people in it lol

Itsnotthateasy808 Mar 26, 2026 +2
I loooooove that song

Love that he did this. Now I just need to buy a 20 year old car to listen to him.

AaronfromKY Mar 27, 2026 +1
I've got a 21 year old car, I guess I'll think about picking up a CD of it.
1
aquintana Mar 27, 2026 +1
I drive a 28 year old car, does anyone know where I can buy the cassette tape?

DubbleDiller Mar 27, 2026 +1
Go to a second hand store or independent record store, ask around. A lot of them sell vintage equipment. I did as much and landed a 400 disc carousel for $100.

grynch43 Mar 26, 2026
I don’t. Now I can’t listen to it. It’s a shame because the last album was amazing.

hippo_ Mar 26, 2026 +11
He put the whole album on YouTube.

Woompa78 Mar 26, 2026 +4
Did not realize that

Thanks

Sure thing. It's a ripper. Fun album.

Woompa78 Mar 26, 2026 +5
I just think it’s cool that he’s not letting the giant streamers have at it just yet. Of course that means I don’t get to listen to it for now so double edged sword there.
5
grynch43 Mar 26, 2026 -5
All of his other stuff is on streaming so I don’t see the point, but whatever, I’ll wait.
-5
heartfailures Mar 27, 2026 +6
the point is that he wants to support independent records shops and this is one way to do it
6
wheredabridge Mar 26, 2026 +2
Buy it then sail the seas.
2
RainForestBathing Mar 26, 2026 -1
Totally agree, love all of his music but unless it's available digitally I won't be listening.
-1
grynch43 Mar 26, 2026
Especially since all his other stuff is available.

Mkmeathead83 Mar 26, 2026 +9
Really love the way he released this. Viridescent is a diamond tier song.

rabidantidentyte Mar 26, 2026 +10
High Top Mountain is the best modern country album and no one can convince me otherwise.
10
RisingSouth Mar 26, 2026 +7
He could’ve made the High Top record 5 more times and been more mainstream but I’m so appreciative he keeps evolving his sound

Pachirisu_Party Mar 26, 2026 +5
Physical media for the win!

This record is a 11/10. Was lucky to get it on vinyl last weekend.

RossinTheBobs Mar 26, 2026 +1
This album is incredible. I had never listened to Sturgill/JBS until he teased the album on YouTube a few weeks ago and it was such a fun ride. Been looking for a vinyl copy but they're sold out at my local record store. Highly recommend checking it out though, it's a good time.

You know what happens to music on cd right?
1
wizardwithgussets Mar 27, 2026 +1
And YouTube. I’d be more than happy to buy it but he lit it out for free . It’s a fun garage beer album

no streaming and still #3. thats honestly more impressive than half the albums that chart with playlist placements. people actually went out and bought the thing
1
LowerH8r Mar 27, 2026 +1
Had tickets to see him in London, at a pretty small venue in 2014... and my new local gf there had a cold and we couldn't go. Still hurts.

marmouchiviande Mar 26, 2026 +1
You can also buy it on his Bandcamp. Great album, cant wait to see them live again
