Well she also said she **would** retire after two terms so idk that this means anything
1
Hairy_Al Apr 1, 2026 +1
6 is after 2. If she lied, I'm sure she's learnt her lesson
1
DigNitty Apr 1, 2026 +1
For anyone who forgot, Susan Collins voted against the first Trump impeachment (trying to overturn the election) and justified it with “Trump learned his lesson” so he doesn’t need to be impeached. And here we are.
1
gypherogha Apr 1, 2026 +1
That was impeachment 2. First was blackmailing Zelensky.
1
CryptographerNew3609 Apr 1, 2026 +1
He DID learn his lesson: he won't ever be held accountable.
1
WhalesForChina Apr 1, 2026 +1
Personally, my brow is furrowed.
1
kiltedturtle Apr 1, 2026 +1
I'm thinking about becoming concerned.
1
Ceorl_Lounge Apr 1, 2026 +1
She'll send herself a strongly worded letter.
1
GoodShitBrain Apr 1, 2026 +1
This b**** is eating too good. She ain’t retiring
1
Individual-Guest-123 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Her chances of getting re elected are not very good, in fact she might lose very very badly at this point.
1
throwneverywhichway Apr 1, 2026 +1
So only 4 terms after the one she previously promised to resign after.
1
Vlyde Apr 1, 2026 +1
Just another worthless piece of shit rat trying to jump off the ship she helped make sink.
1
suckyousideways Apr 1, 2026 +1
But not too fast. She's gotta wring just a little more out of it.
1
shadowdra126 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Force her to retire by voting her out
1
LumberingTroll Apr 1, 2026 +1
That's what she (they) want to avoid.
1
brrnr Apr 1, 2026 +1
Kind of hilarious to try and save face like this when staring down a very clear and humiliating defeat by Platner. Getting destroyed by a leftist, and a brand-new untested one at that, is such a fantastic end to her miserable career. Total indictment on everything she existed for.
1
StevenMC19 Apr 1, 2026 +1
How? She's saying she's going to run again and serve a sixth term. That's not avoiding anything.
1
grandlizardo Apr 1, 2026 +1
Bingo! I think she is history, strong young Dem competition and people are tired of the hypocritical mealymouth
1
LumberingTroll Apr 1, 2026 +1
I love seeing all these republicans fleeing the ship. Too bad no one will remember that they caused all these problems then left the Democrats to clean it up after them.
1
Hayes4prez Apr 1, 2026 +1
Americans will absolutely blame the Democratic Party for not cleaning up the mess (they voted back into office) fast enough.
1
im_just_a_nerd Apr 1, 2026 +1
This x10. What scares me is the right wing media machine is extremely good at creating propaganda and highlighting issues that further their own agenda. The second Dems get control we’re right back to Fox News/OANN/TPUSA preaching everything that the Dems are doing is bad and wrong and we should go back to Republican control.
1
kanokari Apr 1, 2026 +1
Really need to have more regulations on media
1
Creative-Package6213 Apr 1, 2026 +1
That just isn't going to happen. They have control now and they aren't going to give it up.
1
LumberingTroll Apr 1, 2026 +1
Pretty tired of seeing people say this kind of c***, what do you think? we should just give up and let it happen? "That just isn't going to happen." people said the same thing about Trump being elected, both times. Maybe if people actually put in effort to change things, they might actually change.
1
ButtEatingContest Apr 1, 2026 +1
Too many media owners fund Democratic party candidates. Biden launched his 2020 campaign at a fundraiser by a Comcast executive, who he later awarded with an ambassadorship. Comcast, along with AT&T, are two of the biggest corporations responsible for Donald Trump and enabling right-wing and insurrectionist propaganda that brought him to power, and made him not just a threat to the US but the world.
1
suprahelix Apr 1, 2026 +1
Oh it’s not just the right. The left comes out to the woodwork to piss on every single accomplishment- making sure democrats can never build on successes. Everything has to be “crumbs” or “too little too late”. It was wild watching, during Biden’s term, the same people keep trying to come up with reasons why they wouldn’t vote for a democrat in 2024. First it was the eviction moratorium, then student loans, and finally they got Israel to stick.
1
specialkk77 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Most of the average voting citizens will fail to learn or realize that it’s a whole lot easier to break shit than it is to fix it.
1
nosayso Apr 1, 2026 +1
It already happened twice in my lifetime. Barack Obama specifically had an incredibly consequential first 2 years - turning around Bush's great recession and also passing landmark healthcare law. 2 years later Republicans blame Obama for the debt they created and the bad economy he inherited, using the massive pot of dark money the Supreme Court delivered them with the Citizens United decision they convince the American voters to re-elect the exact same people who literally just got done running the economy into the ground 2 years ago - they then proceeded to sabotage the rest of Obama's term. Voters are incredibly f****** stupid, elections are overwhelmingly decided by "vibes" with no basis in fact or even history as recent as 2 years ago.
1
eggoed Apr 1, 2026 +1
It’s also fun seeing people on here b**** about how both sides are the same. Like, yeah they’re not as different as you want because you keep f****** voting them out once they start fixing shit. We coulda had a center-left Supreme Court in the 2000s that would likely have had a very different conclusion on Citizens United etc. Or a center-left court in 2017 that would mean Roe v Wade would have been retained. Sigh. Voters really are stupid, most of them.
1
fred11551 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Democrats went an entire decade without controlling congress. From 2000-2010 they controlled it for 2 years. From 2010-2020 they controlled it for 0 years. From 2020-present they controlled it for 2 years. Voters just love giving republicans control and then blaming democrats for not doing anything
1
jakexil323 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Which is why the world needs to learn its lesson from this term and keep working on diversifying our trade with other nations and start working on defending ourselves. We can't trust that any sanity will return and remain long term for the USA.
1
Mr-ReDiCulouZ Apr 1, 2026 +1
I find it hilarious you use the phrase "learn its lesson" considering the article is about Susan Collins. On topic: I agree, if anything we can be certain sanity will be absent for atleast another 2 decades.
1
jakexil323 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Maybe it was a subconscious thing. I have made fun of her and her learned his lesson thing a couple times now.
1
MurtaghInfin8 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah, even if we restore sanity, nobody should ever trust us again until our education system is fully revamped, and a couple generations have elapsed to establish a new status quo. We're going to remain idiots for a long time. Hopefully our slightly smarter idiots also become much more civicly engaged and we can create a positive feedback loop of becoming less idiotic each iteration.
1
TheResolutePrime Apr 1, 2026 +1
Every. F******. Time. It’s so goddamn annoying to see. This a****** destroys DECADES worth of regulations, relations, and norms, and the goldfish of this country will get stumped that it takes more than two years to put it all back together.
1
JoeFlabeetz Apr 1, 2026 +1
Plus, they'll be distracted by stupid "culture issues" that really don't affect them at all. For example, LGBTQ+, drag queens, gay marriage, etc.
1
Le1bn1z Apr 1, 2026 +1
There is no way to clean this mess in a way that would be popular. Among the many problems arising from spending all of America's money on tax cuts for the rich and land wars in Asia, paid for by ludicrous amounts of debt, is that the Democrats were right: This means that money can never be available for what it is badly needed for. Things like saving Social Security, establishing universal healthcare, rescuing public education, the green transition, and real support for workers and the poor. That debt has been contracted. It is accruing interest. It must be repaid. So whoever wants to clean this mess has to somehow convince Americans that they have to take responsibility for their own country. It means higher taxes - much higher taxes - without the services those taxes could have paid for is America had never started on its insane Republican downward fiscal spiral. In order to start recovering from this nightmare, America needs to raise taxes an amount equivalent to an additional 4% of GDP before *any* new spending/restoring old spending. I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to find a way to blame society's most vulnerable minorities for their self-inflicted problems again once they see that bill.
1
tiutome Apr 1, 2026 +1
Americans have short memories. As soon as the mess is cleaned up — even if it’s only 50% clean, the GOP will take credit and / or say “We could have done it better!” Who’s still waiting on a better GOP Health Reform Bill?
1
Ven18 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah the script is basically already out. Dems will win in 26 and likely 28. By then the economy will be in the toilet and Dems will be given a mandate to fix it. The Democratic leadership and a like establishment president will do very little in the way of radical policy that the nation needs all the while not arresting and putting the prior admin on trial in the name of healing. They will likely continue the war in Iran and capitulate to Israel at every turn. By 2030 little has been done to improve people’s lives and blame falls on Dems in Congress. The GOP have another wave election victory both federally and at the state level like 2010. The entire Dem agenda is stalled and with a new Census the GOP gerrymander states even further cracking Dem cities. The pass Trump SAVE act style laws at the state level to ensure election victory in swing states. By 2032 the next era of fascist runs as Trump without the baggage bets a likely old establishment Democrat and the cycle begins again but this time with someone who will finally say the US is done with democracy.
1
Aggressive_Noise6426 Apr 1, 2026 +1
IT HAPPENS EVERYTIME!!! It’s so frustrating.
1
StevenMC19 Apr 1, 2026 +1
"Fleeing ship" in her case is waiting far after the thing has sunk. She's still currently serving her fifth term.
1
COMM_NTARIAT Apr 1, 2026 +1
Don't get your hopes up. This is Senator Collins' idea of an April Fool's joke.
1

Yeah Lucy is at it again.
1
Kakistocracy_0 Apr 1, 2026 +1
like always.
1
NewDay2517 Apr 1, 2026 +1
This is all the way in 2032. By that point I expect a whole bunch of other shit to be on the plate.
1
timnphilly Apr 1, 2026 +1
"We the People" are doing it wrong if we do not take care of her this year.
1
KohlsCashOfficial Apr 1, 2026 +1
She’s not fleeing if she’s in her fifth term, not sixth
1
newmoonchaperone Apr 1, 2026 +1
You people engage ephemerally, it's almost as if comment karma points are really the only goal: ***LumberingTroll*** [writes] * "I love seeing all these republicans fleeing the ship." Susan Collins (R-ME) is running for new six year term in the US Senate, where, if she wins she will serve from January 2027 > January 2034.
1
KohlsCashOfficial Apr 1, 2026 +1
I can’t believe the number of comments in here convinced she’s already in her sixth. Does anyone read anything but the headline anymore?
1
Kakistocracy_0 Apr 1, 2026 +1
F*** off, Collins.
1
StevenMC19 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Only her sixth? It's only 36 years... /s Also, isn't she still only on her fifth? That's some wild confidence thinking she's going to maintain her position next election. edit: I guess she's banking on the infighting blowing up Platner's run.
1
GrafZeppelin127 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Hard thing to bank on, given that the primary race is setting up for a landslide by all indications. I could maybe see Mills pulling a Cuomo, but that’s not necessarily guaranteed to succeed.

April Fools!

1

There won’t be a 6th term, Susan. Maine will give you your eviction notice in November. Good riddance.
1
helpmeiamarobot Apr 1, 2026 +1
I think she's learned her lesson
1
Big_Bookkeeper1678 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Why does anyone take this a****** of a woman seriously anymore? Kick her to the curb, Maine.
1
Morallta Apr 1, 2026 +1
Given how many times she's voiced an intent to do something only to then do the opposite, I'm only going to believe this when she's finally gone.
1
No_Strike655 Apr 1, 2026 +1
April fools guys seriously
1

Ahh yes little miss I’ll only serve two terms
1
Travelerdude Apr 1, 2026 +1
Then when do we say “F*** Susan Collins?”
1
No-Group-4504 Apr 1, 2026 +1
All these Republicans that ran campaigns based on lies, rage bait, and criticism of anything that actually got done (which all resulted in Trump) for two decades are all leaving. Obamacare is the prime example. They promised and ran on repealing and replacing it for a decade and a half, and never even had a replacement plan, or any real intention of ever repealing it. How many votes were wasted on that stupid shit!!! DON'T LET THE F****** THE DOOR HIT YOU!!!
1
freexanarchy Apr 1, 2026 +1
She’s concerned

1
river_tree_nut Apr 1, 2026 +1
Nobody in Maine believes her. Graham Platner's gonna wipe the floor with her anyway.
1
BleachedUnicornBHole Apr 1, 2026 +1
It’s not retiring if you don’t win re-election.
1
AqueductMosaic Apr 1, 2026 +1
Maybe Maine voters can help her move along as quickly as possible.
1

Collins is a LIAR and a traitor - a fake moderate; she needs to be defeated because she has helped Trump numerous times; she has voted for fascist judges EVERY TIME. OUT with this fascist.
1
uksid1976 Apr 1, 2026 +1
So her candidacy is now - Come on, just one more time.
1
Single-Refuse174 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Who cares what any of these people say anymore? They’ve proven they have no spine and no integrity.
1
Valuable_Sea_4709 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Still waiting on her to finish her sentence on CNN. "The president has been impeached! That's an important lesson!" She said as she counted Trump being acquitted by the senate without enforcing even a SINGLE subpoena. What was that lesson Susan? What did he LEARN?? That you'll do nothing to stop him? What an IMPORTANT lesson indeed...
1
pasterhatt Apr 1, 2026 +1
She's reading the polls, and knows she's getting blown out. Also gives the Republicans a chance to run someone who doesn't have a history of total psycophantic behavior towards Trump, though if that like of candidate can win a primary, God only knows.
1
TheSilkyBat Apr 1, 2026 +1
I really hope people vote to retire her earlier.
1

1
Dense_Badger_1064 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Funny how she has made her whole career out as a “moderate” Republican who is always concerned and skeptical of the far-right legislation coming from Trump & MAGA. Yet, somehow she is always the consequential vote to pass it. She is always “concerned.” Until it comes to voting on legislation.
1
ken-davis Apr 1, 2026 +1
She has said this for decades. How about the voters of Maine retire her?
1
SirRichardLove Apr 1, 2026 +1
Retire now
1

Have you done enough damage, Susan?
1

She seems the writing on the wall. A coward to the end.
1

1

Like RATS abandoning a sinking ship! How many will shield themselves with ignorance? "I was misinformed." "I was just as much a victim of the administration!" "I just did what I was told, I didn't know the full scope!" "If you weren't with them, you were against him and I was intimidated into silence!" "We didn't know." "We trusted the administration to govern within the scope of the law!" How many will parrot every excuse in the book to abscond with 10 years of accountability for allowing this administration to run rampant not just once, but twice!?
1
Orwells_Roses Apr 1, 2026 +1
Good riddance. She’s nothing but a boot licker.

Crazy that "74 year old announces they're considering retirement sometime in the next decade" is considered news.

She has no credibility. I think we will be foiling her plans by retiring her at the midterms.
