> A recent NBC News poll found that AI is less popular than U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Yeah, that might do it :/

I love that they threw that in as the last line of the article. Just like "possible motive is that everybody hates these bastards."

My neighbor explaining to me that she can't get a job cuz she trying to learn the skills to replicate herself, her words. She seemed to understand my facial expression but also felt trapped in some weird puzzle.

They have investments that they need to keep inflated for just a little longer.

Tech innovations like email, high-speed internet and social media were marketed to the public as widely accessible and useful tools with utility for the average consumer. AI companies building LLMs went straight to corporations and have been explicitly marketing them as “this will replace jobs so you don’t have to deal with those pesky fallible humans”. Was a disastrous choice if you wanted people to have positive opinions of your product.

full_bodied_muppet 2 days ago +64
Then there are also companies investing so much into the AI trend that they're making it mandatory for employees and customers to use it, which also rubs everyone the wrong way.

This is what happens when all you do is talk to people in SF and on twitter without taking anyone else into account
19
Karlend41 2 days ago +80
They're not trying to sell AI to regular people, they're trying to sell it to guys in the Epstein Files. They're counting on the opinion of regular people not mattering when push comes to shove.
80
rooftopgoblin 2 days ago +50
the thing the rich have forgotten, since its been so long, is that the regular people exist and have feelings and can do things like shoot up your house or firebomb a billionaire. It's been over a century since the romanovs got theirs and the owner class definitely need to study history

a rare bipartisan hatred of AI. and it will only get worse as more jobs are displaced.

Hatred turns to anger and add in hunger an fear and you gotta revolution
73
apathetic_revolution 2 days ago +34
You reversed it! Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.
34
SugarDue8160 2 days ago +12
Yes but if it's a revolution it'll be the suffering of the billionaires
12
Vegetable_Window7417 2 days ago +2
The billionaires have never suffered in any revolution that ever occurred.

_Not_A_Vampire_ 2 days ago +4
AI isn't making these companies any money so I don't think it will be displacing any jobs. At some point the shareholders will ask where the money they invested is, that's when things will get interesting.
4
Karlend41 2 days ago +25
Probably has something to do with the Top uses of AI being Taking your job and making it harder to get a job after it gets taken by AI.

every time I hear him interviewed with those dead eyes and completely unemotional answers I think of the Congressman that Ben and April go work for in DC in parks & rec. “stay cool - it’s a hot one today!” He has a reputation as an incredible hype man in Silicon Valley, but the more his public profile grows the more I wonder how f****** strange and singleminded many of his investors must be to fall under this defective android’s sway.

This kind of thing is going to start happening more and more. I’m not sure big tech CEOs realize how angry a large part of the workforce is. So many people are literally losing their jobs because of AI. I expect this to get worse.

It will definitely get worse and no one is going to care when they get guillotined. They think they're beloved Tony Starks, but they are universally despised. The reaction will be a collective shrug.

They definitely know this, that's why many of them employ what nearly amount to personal militaries as their bodyguards.

I think they do, i just think they don't give a f*** since the working class is 1)beneath them 2)a resource to be exploited 3) aren't able to make policy or rules, just follow

You mean Jonathan Ross, noted murderer and victim of a failed penile enhancement surgery?
8
Historical-Mix8865 2 days ago +7
And not Jonathan Ross, aka Wossy, the beloved British Radio and TV host of the last 30+ years (and self confessed Japan and Nintendo fanatic)? Every single time this guy's name comes up, I do a double take. Can only imagine the absolute shit Wossy gets online by people mistaking him for that c***. I still laugh when I remember the episode of The Jonathan Ross show when Robert Downey Jr couldn't turn up due to the Icelandic volcano eruption, so he got the first available alternative - Jeremy Clarkson. With absolutely nothing to promote or talk about. I also met Jonathan Ross at the Nintendo 3DS prelaunch, and he was absolutely ecstatic about Ocarina of Time 3D ...I went off on a tangent there I think. I'm sure Wossy's c*** works fine.

With Peter Thiel, Sam Altman openly wants to overthrow democracy and replace it with corporate autocracy. They're the whole reason there's talk about taking over Greenland so they can start their corporate city states. Straight up evil stuff. I can't believe these guys aren't cancelled or ostracized by us yet they're given time on talk shows and podcasts.

If things don’t change we’re going to see more of this. Eventually one of these sociopathic billionaires is going to be taken down. I don’t feel sorry for people who build bunkers inside of compounds to escape to instead of agreeing to pay more taxes and a living wage.

I had a dream a couple nights ago where Sam Altman hit my car with his and caused minor damage, so to apologize he treated me to a movie and dinner followed by a tour of his corporate office. He was so f****** obnoxious and self centered that i left partway into dinner. And in the movie theater he would not. Shut. Up. And kept bumping me with his foot which was crosssed over his lap and practically into mine. I imagine he is the same in person.
2
00notmyrealname00 2 days ago +3
I got to be honest. The weirdest part of that dream is not the incredible detail of a terrible date, it's the fact that you dreamed of Sam Altman. Until this moment, I think I just figured Sam Altman was the only person that dreamed of Sam Altman.
