So the suspect was either uncuffed in the hospital or cuffed but still managed to grab the cops gun and shoot him in the head. Wild, I thought that stuff could only happen in movies as how does someone strip the weapon out your holster

I could imagine something like 1 hand uncuffed and officers were distracted by something and off-guard.

I'm wondering if the suspect stole a gun off one of the officers, given that he was already in custody before the shooting. Either that, or they didn't search him properly and he had one stowed away.

This article quotes a source saying he took the gun off of one of the officers. CPD have only confirmed that a gun has been collected as evidence. https://blockclubchicago.org/2026/04/25/swat-team-huge-police-presence-reported-at-swedish-hospital-in-lincoln-square/

What was the suspect thinking? Did he thought he was a free man and that he was going to be let go by law enforcement after shooting the two cops?

Criminals aren't very smart. That is the main reason why they are Criminals.

There's plenty of smart criminals. They just don't get caught.

John Gotti was smart. Bernie Madoff was smart. SBF was smart. Hell, Epstein was smart. Didn't matter, they all got caught and convicted and sentenced.  Unless you are talking about criminals like Putin or MBS or Trump. In which case they are protected because they seized power over their respective nations, not because we don't know who they are.

"Of the 1000 planes that returned from battle most of the bulletholes we found are in the wings and none are near the engines, so obviously we can save weight by designing the next generation to have less armor on the bullet-repelling engines and more armor on the bullet-attracting wings"

You really think the person you are commenting on is smart enough to understand this quote?

Yeah they surely arent going to frame it as cuffed suspect stole cops gun and used it against them and will be trying to minimize any damaging narratives, especially against the murdered officer. I hope they atleast properly change policy so it doesnt happen again instead of sweeping it under the rug

Ya, problem is it only takes a 1-2 second bit of inattention for such a thing to happen. turn to talk to the nurse when the suspect has been calm for the prior 90 minutes...

The cops had rival gang colors, (blue line flag), so he was kind of asking for it ya know.

This hits a bit too close to home, as I was going there regularly a couple months ago. Horrible situation. I was curious why the injured officers were taken to another hospital. Swedish Covenant is a trauma Level II, not Level I.

He was being detained for attempted robbery, so he murdered someone to try and get out of that? Make it make sense.

So the 2 cops were shot while INSIDE A HOSPITAL but were then transported to ANOTHER hospital. One died and the other might still. Wut. I’m not a doctor, but it seems to me that if you’re going to get shot, hospital has to be like top 3 places you would want that to happen, maybe after wizard’s den and standing next to a genie’s lamp. “Sorry, we don’t take your insurance.” \- This hospital probably \#JustAmericaThings

Don't know the circumstances here, but there's plenty of hospitals where I'm from that aren't equipped for certain types of critical injuries, so people are instead transported to the centers that can.  I doubt it's an "america dumb" situation

Death penalty is plenty common across the country, hasn't stopped this stuff before. If a guy is going to shoot people, already with the expectation they might also get shot, the death penalty will not change their mind.

you do realize people are typically on death row for a very long time, right? and the taxpayers are also paying for dozens of expensive appeals during that time?

Which is cheaper than killing him, and I would argue harsher than an easy out in death.

No no see it's *perfectly okay* to demand capital punishment because the state should have a monopoly on violence! Now excuse me while I go back to deepthroating this boot.

Public policy shouldn’t be determined by your personal sadism.

You seem to get emotional satisfaction from demanding violence against this person.
