> Rep. Eric Swalwell, a leading Democratic candidate for governor of California, has accused President Trump of trying to sway the election following reports that FBI Director Kash Patel may release documents from a decade-old investigation into the congressman’s ties to a suspected Chinese spy. > Patel directed agents in the bureau’s San Francisco office to redact the case files for public release, according to a report by the Washington Post, a highly unusual move by the FBI to release case files tied to a probe that did not result in criminal charges. > The investigation centered on Swalwell’s ties to a suspected intelligence operative, Christine Fang, or Fang Fang, who worked as a volunteer raising money for his congressional campaign. Swalwell cut off ties to Fang in 2015, after intelligence officials briefed him and other members of Congress about Chinese efforts to infiltrate the legislative body. [As The Hill reported in 2023](https://web.archive.org/web/20230531002827/https://thehill.com/homenews/4018047-house-ethics-concludes-swalwell-probe-into-link-to-chinese-spy-taking-no-action/), the House Ethics Committee decided not to take any action against Swalwell after investigating his interactions with Fang. This was when the committee had a **Republican** majority following the 2022 elections. Contrast then with the current House Ethics Committee finding a Florida Democrat liable for ethics violations over misuse of COVID aid.

This just shows they have nothing on Swalwell. Trump's goons in the Justice Department have been charging the weakest of cases. If they had anything, they'd try to indict him, not release FBI files related to him during the election.

I mean, these fascist pigs aignt gonna win by being honest so this mud slinging is to be expected. Remember folks, when it’s time to vote there is NOTHING in the Dems profile that could match or outweigh the TERRIBLE INEPT CRUEL INHUMANE & DASTARDLY policies enacted by the guardians of pedophile party this last year. The GOP are nothing more than sub human scum who feel that they can lie to our faces while selling out our rights to oligarchs. These pedophile protecting fuckers deserve nothing more than a life of ineptitude behind bars for their treason. Never forget what they have done to us and hold them to account for their sins! They should be like the sinner in the hands of an angry God, burning & suffering forever in the pits of Dis for their heresy, treason, and grift.

Kind of feeling that way. Probably time to coalesce around the front runner with the biggest name-ID. We’ll get good candidates again after we fix this dumbass primary system.

Swalwell calling out the "weaponization of the FBI" is an irony peak. We’ve spent years hearing about "the files," and now they’re being leaked—coincidentally—just as the California primary season heats up? It doesn’t matter if there’s a "smoking gun" or just a lot of smoke; the goal isn't a conviction, it's a headline that stays in the news cycle until November. This is 2016-style "October Surprise" energy, but we’re doing it in the spring.
