I’ve really love the fact that Ella’s star seems to be rising in the world television and not movies and she seems to be OK with it. We kind of need these big stars in the world of television to keep television shows going. Everybody is so quick to jump to movies…

There's no difference anymore. TV is produced at high quality cinematic levels now and the stigma of movie actors going back to "slumming" it on tv no longer exists b/c of that.

CleverZergMar 18, 2026

Couple that with the fact that Cinema attendance has been on a decline for quite a while - there's definitely not a big difference between a TV star and a movie star.

There's still a bit of a stigma for A-list actors tbf. Like i can't imagine Timothee Chalamet or Tom cruise will ever be interested working on a netflix show.

She also has just great luck. Like she is on YellowJackets and is great in it
Then her character dies and she still comebacks back for flashbacks which is cool for her meiotic rise
And the fallout show turns out to be really good and visually looks amazing while Yellowjackets has sorta spun its wheels a bit

That’s true as well out of all the shows I’ve seen her on or heard her on. There’s never been a bad one.

There has always been TV stars who never broke into, or were not interested in making the jump to movies therefore she’s not exactly an anomaly in that respect.

Nobody likes it but it seems pretty true. Movies largely are no longer compelling, I haven't been to the theatre since 2018 even then it had been years between visits but nothing has made me want to return and what I watch at home just seems middling. Not everything is bad of course but there is a larger trend that doesn't bode well for the future of movies. TV seems to only be getting better but they need to speed up these productions nobody has patience to wait two years for new episodes.

Also there are four more books to draw source material from (and they go preeeetty f****** crazy... although the show has deviated a little bit already.)

I loved the first two books, the next three jump the shark badly IMO. Any series about a serial killer is bound to have a Dexter/You problem, when it becomes increasingly implausible and ridiculous as the time goes on.

I read the books because I really disliked how they portrayed the main character in the series. I tried explaining the last three books to my husband and then realized how insane it was. Still finished the series though, definitely more of a fun female revenge fantasy read than anything else.

Oh my god I read that one before the series came out and it’s such a trip. Really highlights his misogyny and delusions. It’s beautifully written as well. Maybe I’ll pick up the second one since the tv series fell off so hard.

I really recommend the audiobook. Santino Fontana narrates and he makes Prince Hans of the Southern Isles (his role in Frozen) seem like a teddy bear.

I've read that the series is more of a prequel.

Ehh, not really. It uses a lot of what happens in the first book, but some stuff happens differently. For example, in the books her kidnapping her school bully and keeping her in the basement is more just a tertiary thing that happens. She's like "oh yeah, I have her down there, she sucks" and then a few chapters later she's like "oh, by the way I killed her and dumped her body in the woods, just another Tuesday" whereas in the show that whole thing with her bully it's more of a central plot point.
I would say Rhiannon in the books is way more just "the world sucks, I hate everyone, everything is stupid" while Rhiannon in the show is more a victim of everyone being a d*** to her and taking control over things. Book-Rhiannon is far less emotional and more calculating (while fully being aware that she's a bit psycho).

She's very nasty and bitter in the first book. The author tones it down in the second one, which IMO is the best and reaches a natural ending point for the story. Then she wrote 3 more a couple of years later that weren't really needed.

Opposite actually. It was initially supposed to be a miniseries, but it was popular enough (Ella Purnell becoming a much bigger star in the meantime certainly helped) they turned it into a multi-season series.

Props to the hair stylist for designing Ella’s truly hideous bangs in the first season, like Javier Bardem’s haircut in No Country For Old Men it immediately conveys a sense of something being seriously off with the character.

I wonder where they are going with this story. What's everybody thinking? Does her sister run? Does she kill the sister too? No, I think. Does the sister join her in the clean up and then what? It would have been cool to be a part of that writer's room trying to crack this story.

Very nice and underrated series of 2025. Exactly the opposite of hyper injected, steroids shit Pluribus.
Two different countries series and pretty obvious: One loud and mega budget, the other one clever, subtle yet deep and entertaining.
