But seriously, imagine all the shit that dude must put up with. In the military and your sister is Sydney Sweeney.

Any military member with that last name gets shit for being her relative, true or not. He quite literally is called "Sweeney" all day, everyday...everyone knew, knows now, or jokes around that it's true regardless.
62
Juan-Claudio Mar 26, 2026 +29
A lot of those actor/actress names are made up to have a more celebrity ring to it. But i looked it up and it seems Sydney Sweeney is indeed her real name so that means her brother is obviously also called Sweeney.
29
Clockbounce Mar 26, 2026 +28
If you clicked the article you would see the dude is literally holding up a certificate that very clearly says 'Trent Sweeney.'
28
SnakeEater013 Mar 26, 2026 +7
Depending on how long ago he went to BCT I bet his drills called him Sydney Sweeney without realizing he’s her brother just because of the last name

Nobody knew what Germany was doing until the war was basically over. At that point it was just getting the UKs back after being bombed.
46
NotAnnieBot Mar 26, 2026 +31
>Nobody knew what Germany was doing until the war was basically over Nobody was certain of the extent of the atrocities but people knew about there being atrocities by that point (The Sicily invasion was in July 1943). The US Press was reporting on the atrocities in November 1942. The Allies then published the “Declaration on Atrocities” on December 17, 1942 which includes "The United Kingdom, the United States and the Soviet Union have received from many quarters evidence of atrocities, massacres and cold-blooded mass executions which are being perpetrated by Hitlerite forces in many of the countries they have overrun..."
31
monogramchecklist Mar 26, 2026 +48
Didn’t the US only enter the war after Pearl Harbour?
48
bdickie Mar 26, 2026 +9
The government at the time wanted any exscuse to get involved. Pearl Harbour didnt need to result in war in Europe, but deffinetly led to war in the Pacific.
9
NotAnnieBot Mar 26, 2026 +21
Germany and Italy declared war on the US as a response to the U.S. declaring war against Japan. Was the U.S. supposed to ignore countries declaring war on them?
21
bdickie Mar 26, 2026 +7
The argument at the time was that people didnt want to be dragged into another European war. Neither Germany or Italy had the capacity to reach mainland US, so a declaration of war isnt the same threat as it was to the UK or France. My point is the US government waned to join, the public was largely split. And amoung the split war with Japan was less supported then war with European Axis powers. Pearl Harbour allowed the Government the perfect rational to enter the war, but if it had been European Axis powers attacking the US instead of Japan its debatable the US gets involved in the Pacific. Japan attacking forced the US to get involved in the Pacific and allowed it to get involved in Europe.
7
SwindlingAccountant Mar 26, 2026 +24
That's not quite true...
24
mydaycake Mar 26, 2026 +3
No, people knew that Jews and others were disappearing, there were news of ghettos, the bad conditions in war prisoners camps and they knew what Hitler was doing to the civilians in the East front and France. There were articles and testimonies, the pictures came later but they knew, they didn’t know how many thousands were able to kill every day but they thought there were camps somewhere in the east
3
GorbasBoods Mar 26, 2026 +6
Well, the part we fought for was Germany's expansion and very clear goal of THE WORLD. Yeah, the world wasnt fighting specifically for the war crimes we found out Germany propagated after the fact. But you make it sound like Hitler wasnt a threat to the rest of the world, clandestine shit aside.
6
TheMaidenOfDragons Mar 26, 2026 +2
Actually that’s a really common misconception that I think gets repeated alot because we as humans do not like to accept that we could have helped in situations and didn’t until it was “too late”. Obviously Wikipedia is not a great place for most historical sources, but the page on the [International Response to the Holocaust](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_response_to_the_Holocaust#:~:text=Additionally%20the%20Foreign%20Secretary%20Anthony,source%20of%20significant%20historical%20debate) is a really quick skim of a bigger issue that could be read on for hours. > *”BBC radio aired two broadcasts on the final solution during the war: the first at 9 am on 17 December 1942, on the UN Joint Declaration, read by Polish Foreign Minister in-exile Edward Raczynski, and the second during May 1943, Jan Karski's eyewitness account of mass Jewish executions, read by Arthur Koestler.[10] However, the political rhetoric and public reporting was not followed up with military action by the British government- an omission that has been the source of significant historical debate.”* Also, from 1933 to 1945, the US accepted more refugees than any other country at that time, but still did not even meet their immigration quotas. We say “never again”, but unfortunately history is doomed to repeat itself because we the people have not changed enough.

Momik Mar 26, 2026 +22
Both of my grandfathers were in the Army (World War II for one, Korea but not in combat for the other). Both absolutely hated the Army when they got out. Though my grandfather who was in WWII was proud of the fight—he’d helped liberate a concentrate camp in Germany after crossing the Rhine. But then he got demoted for stopping his men firing on their own allies (because he went against orders).
22
Darkone539 Mar 26, 2026 +67
The last ww1 veteran in the uk was a nightmare for recruiting. They asked him what he would say to anyone thinking of joining and said don't, war is hell. Nobody who actually fought thinks it was good. They did what they had to. I don't need to die for trump's ego in Iran.
67
vibratokin Mar 26, 2026 +10
War used to be seen as something honorable to go to because we didn’t have pictures and because we didn’t have automatic weapons. WW1 had bodies literally piling up on top of each other bc it was the first war in such a scale to feature automatic weapons and tactics hadn’t caught up yet. That mixed with those images circulating back home changed the world perception of war.

My dad was drafted for Vietnam. He was a conscientious objector, but he thought draft dodgers were pussies. He went through training, got deployed, and then immediately found a local to trade him some liquor for his gun right in front of his commanding officer. He knew he’d be dishonorably discharged and be a felon for the rest of his life, but he figured he may as well waste some resources along the way.
72
CommentFightJudge Mar 26, 2026 +27
My uncle was too. The story is he had a sympathetic doctor who diagnosed him with heart murmurs to evade service time. He became a Dead Head instead, which basically explains his personality
27
BeefInGR Mar 26, 2026 +13
My grandfather joined the Army so he didn't have to get drafted into the Navy for Vietnam. He was the one who explained to me that you can love your country and hate your government. Until the day he died he refused to vote for Democrats because of LBJ and Republicans because of Nixon. The ONLY president he ever spoke a kind word about was Ford, and "kind" is very subjective.

The dumbest thing any country can do is send uninterested people into combat. At best they are massively inconvenient and a drain on resources and at worst they commit treason cause why remain faithful to a country that literally is forcing you onto the frontlines.

18
Kindly-Guidance714 Mar 26, 2026 +16
Yeah I was gonna say he may not get specific preferential treatment but you bet your ass they aren’t putting her brother into anything’s that’s going to seriously risk his life unless he chooses it. Can’t have major celebrities family members killed in a futile war without them potentially turning against the America gestapo I mean military regime. Look at what happened to Pat Tillman and his family, they won’t replay that mistake ever again.
16
BalanceJazzlike5116 Mar 26, 2026 +44
2/3 of military supports Trump. I hope there’s a coalition of the willing, and they ask all the troops to volunteer for deployment if they voted for Trump, seems fair to me.
44
heretorobwallst Mar 26, 2026 +31
Its really more like 55-60%
31
BalanceJazzlike5116 Mar 26, 2026 +37
The data from Trump first two elections was 61 and 60 percent, in his first two elections he got around 46-47% of the popular vote. The military swings 15% for Trump, that’s like a gerrymandered Republican district. They like him and can enjoy the deployment they voted for.
37
Funmachine Mar 26, 2026
Oh wow a whole 6%. Pretty negligible in casual conversation.
0
JimboAltAlt Mar 26, 2026 +19
It seems like there’s a (relatively) huge rhetorical difference between “two thirds” and “[just] over half.” The former feels like a done deal and the latter feels like anyone’s game.
19
BalanceJazzlike5116 Mar 26, 2026 +3
It’s not 6%. He scored 15% and 13% higher with military than general public in first two elections. I haven’t seen military data from current 2024 election but expect it would be similar to the two, his popular vote percentage was only 2 points higher this time (49%)
3
EquinsuOcha Mar 26, 2026 +6
If you could have witnessed the last 40 years of propaganda that is solely focused on the military personnel, you would understand it is one of the most successful ongoing psyops. Some people escape it, but if you can think of a more fertile ground than a structured environment with strict adherence to orders and controlled information dissemination - you’d be thinking of a cult.

Not directed at you specifically, but people who say it's only tge b**** are either lying or deliberately dismissive because they don't like her

1102
IHeartFraccing Mar 26, 2026 +160
I don’t think it’s good that anybody is being deployed in this war.  Edit: and 12 minutes in we’re getting predictably Reddit-y responses that show how much the internet cuts off empathy. Nobody should be going to Iran to fight this war. If you’re calloused enough to be saying “good - send *them*” recognize that any broad “THEM vs US” is toxic, dehumanizing and is exactly the type of thing that the MAGA/Project 25 bullshit is meant to instill.  Edit 2: I’m not even paying attention to these replies anymore but if you’re saying they deserve this, sit and say this out loud to yourself a couple times and see how it feels: “Trump is terrible. So anyone who votes for him should go die in a war.” That shouldn’t feel validating or vindicating.
160
JoshHartsMilkMustach Mar 26, 2026 +223
Agreed. But if this is what you've voted for, do your duty
223
colin_7 Mar 26, 2026 +9

People who voted to take my rights away are my enemy. I understand you don't get that. I don't care.
48
throwtheclownaway20 Mar 26, 2026 +9
No, it's not good, but if anyone is going to fight Trump's bullshit war, it should be the people who literally voted for him. Hell, that's how it should be for any President, but we can't exactly monitor who everyone votes for to enforce it. Once it's *their* skin in the game, maybe they'll start taking this shit seriously
9
temujin94 Mar 26, 2026 +50
Well maybe don't sign up to an organisation that spends the vast majority of their time in conflicts similar to this for the last 70+ years? Like watching people voluntarily put their hand into a wood chipper and say: 'I don't think they should have lost the hand just because a wood chipper was lying about.'
50
JoleneDollyParton Mar 26, 2026 +4
There are definitely things to criticize a military for, but there are many people who sign up for the military because of lack of other options are alternatives and who need a paycheck—and not every person enlisted is MAGA.
4
temujin94 Mar 26, 2026 +4
Not valid excuses, same applies to anyone currently signing up for ICE. There's always better alternatives to being a paid terroriser, if Trump is dumb enough to put boots on the ground a lot of dead people are going to wish they took one of the other alternatives and most of the lucky survivors too given other injuries that are accrued and also the suicide rate.
4
braxin23 Mar 26, 2026 +14
You’re literally ignoring the asshats that verbatim repeat the same tired bullshit of Newsmax and Fox News programming. Like “it was 47 years in the making” or “they have it coming” or some bs.

Bro sewed on SSgt last year and made a celebratory post on IG, the caption was all about his f****** sister and the stupid American Eagle commercial.

Bendo410 Mar 26, 2026 +153
Duh, she will blame Biden. Even if it’s 8 years from now it will still be his fault
153
Both-Matter1108 Mar 26, 2026 +5
Nah, they’ll blame Obama. He is the real boogeyman to MAGA.

Itchy-Beach-1384 Mar 26, 2026 +14

Thank the troops for what? They aren’t protecting my freedoms, they are marching to the imperialist drums. I hate this thank the troop bullshit, you volunteered for the biggest socialist job program in the USA.
31
JohnVanVenker Mar 26, 2026 +5
Absolutely! The military enjoys socialism in many many ways but let's just talk about their government provided health care--even as they scream "Obamacare is socialism!" Idiots. I'm a veteran by the way, former AF entitled to Tricare. But I acknowledge it for what it is.

OkDirection8015 Mar 26, 2026 +23
Thank them for what? Thats they’re being dragged into the most stupid war that the orange turd started?

“Registered Republican thanks the troops” shocker

You reap what you sow. Wish him luck but zero sympathy for one of the biggest celebrities pushing for such a terrible president.

Movinginplace25 Mar 26, 2026 +6
It's her president's war
6
ZestyChinchilla Mar 26, 2026 +8
He’s going to come back in a box and she’ll still figure out a way to thank the Current Administration for the honor of sacrificing her family member for a completely illegal, pointless war.

MAGA's gotta MAGA. I hope he has the MAGA experience he voted for.

CheapWeight8403 Mar 26, 2026 +15
I'm not thanking any troops this time around. We have all seen how the government treats veterans. So, you only have yourself to blame troops. No thanks coming from me. You're not keeping me safe, and I have no sympathy or thanks for you. Get. Screwed.
15
mamadovah1102 Mar 26, 2026 +17
I get the sentiment. But a lot of young men and women who were raised in poverty or abusive homes don’t have other options, and recruiters manipulate and prey upon those troubled youths. A lot of young people who join really have no idea or know any better. We are raised and taught in school that it’s an honor to be in the military and until that illusion is broken for them, they believe it all.
17
CheapWeight8403 Mar 26, 2026 +3
I was raised in an impoverished and abusive home. I don't kill people for money. Which is kind of interesting I guess. I guess I'm just different that way.
3
mamadovah1102 Mar 26, 2026 +2
Congrats on that. You are so smart and wonderful. Better than everyone else.
2
CheapWeight8403 Mar 26, 2026 +4
I've never killed anyone. I would hope you haven't either. I'm also not seeking employment where I will be asked to kill people or help others kill people. That's what the military is. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

adidas198 Mar 26, 2026 +8
Wow, you are such a morally superior person. Have a cookie.
8
rickee_martin Mar 26, 2026 +9
You realize the majority of people that join do so because they grew up in lower socio economic environments and this is one of the only true ways they can escape the cycle? Probably not. It’s one thing to be against this war, which I also am. But it’s one thing to be a complete d*** and assume that all active service members are only there because they support the President. Oh and one last thing you blamed how veterans are treated by the government on them and then told active service members to get screwed. The logic doesn’t make sense.
9
CheapWeight8403 Mar 26, 2026 +5
Lots of poor people build lives that don't involve murdering people for money. >But it’s one thing to be a complete d*** and assume that all active service members are only there because they support the President. They'd have to support our military if they joined up. Right? I don't. This sure as hell isn't just about Trump. Have you seen what our military has done in your life? We don't have a draft. We have a volunteer service. These people chose to be a part of this, and have lost all my sympathy.
5
BigDaddyDumperSquad Mar 26, 2026 +2
Guess what? There are a lot of OTHER people who ARE willing to kill people for money and power. Many of them have even worse ideologies.
2
RunningPirate Mar 26, 2026 +6
I’ll offer sympathy to the ones that were just trying to pull themselves out of poverty and this was the only viable option.,..only to get sucked into a bullshit war.
6
CheapWeight8403 Mar 26, 2026 +3
I don't think that pulling yourself from poverty by killing other people is an option that anyone should take. When you join the military you are signing up to fight in possible bullshit wars. The military is a job to commit acts of violence upon other countries. That's it. All the other stuff they do is in support of committing acts of violence. You don't get a free pass on committing acts of violence because you grew up poor.
3
Horror_Cap_7166 Mar 26, 2026 +6
Feel for him, it’s a pointless war. Too many people are going to needlessly die for reasons not even the president can explain.
6
braxin23 Mar 26, 2026 +10
The president who started this war to begin with? The same President who said he’d be “for peace” in 2024? The same President who has done nothing but make unkept promises time and again shifting the goal post whenever he is confronted on it?

Initial_Scarcity_609 Mar 26, 2026 +2
The smiley face is so tone deaf.
