Controversy aside she's a wild pick for a "playing herself" cameo for a film about the fashion industry. It feels like the kind of reference that would highly date this in the future.

I think they thought she'd have an improved profile by the time the movie was out. Instead it's just gotten more muddy as time goes on. Still very marketable but reactions are mixed with plenty of strong negative reactions and she isn't really a high fashion icon at all.
This of course assumes she was being portrayed in a positive light, if her cameo was supposed to be comedic and self-deprecating I could see it not working. Especially if the focus is meant to be on the other characters.
11

Another time I can think of when someone played themselves was Julia Robert’s in one of the Oceans movies. She has a long legacy of well known movies and some of them have cultural references. Sydney is kind of here right now… will she be in two years? I dunno. I think that’s the difference of where people say it will seem dated. If she doesn’t have a lasting impact in movies, her cameo would stand out in the future

25
AmbitiousButRubbishh4 days ago
+13
Fashion trends are cyclical,
It would only be dated for a certain amount of time and then relevant again
But also, this is a film about people in the fashion industry, not about current fashion, so the story itself won’t be dated by the fashion, it’ll be dated if the fashion employment industry makes a radical shift
How is the first one dated?
Is cerulean blue now wanted for war crimes?
13
Quixotic_Seal4 days ago
+11
Maybe it’s just because I’m not particularly into fashion, but rewatching the film last week the most obviously dated aspect felt like the technology/workflows used. Early pre-iPhone Smartphones, lots of things being done on paper, photography rooms that used actual film, etc
The biggest cultural reference that felt dated was the subplot about getting the new Harry Potter, which to be fair would probably have aged far less weirdly had Rowling not…well, been Rowling. Nothing you could have foreseen about that.
Shoving the likes of Sydney Sweeney in the sequel would have been a massive mistake that instantly placed it in a very specific time window where(politics aside) she was fairly obviously something of a Flavor of the Month celebrity. It would have just been a bizarre decision.
Not that I’m convinced this is going to be a great movie to start with, but still a bullet dodged is a bullet dodged.

I recently spoke at length with someone who works in marketing for fashion brands, and they explained that giant companies separate celebrities into "beautiful" and "hot" categories for advertising purposes.
Essentially, "beautiful" stars are women whom other women admire and find aesthetically pleasing, while "hot" stars are basically just sex objects for men. Therefore, you'll only see "beautiful" celebrities selling makeup/hair care/underwear brands that women buy, while the "hot" ones sell c*** that men buy FOR the women in their lives.
Once I learned that, Sydney Sweeney started to make a lot more sense to me.

The answer to any question that starts with “is there any other scenario” is always yes. She won’t get “most” men to go, but she will get some. A cameo is c**** so it’s mostly a marketing selling point. Surely they first thought she’s beneficial for the movie, and now think her PR controversy is no longer worth it.

taking morals out of the question i have never seen someone mismanage their career as bad as ss. for a while in 21-22 she felt like she could be an iconic campy s*** fun star, but she’s taken all the wrong roles and said all the wrong things and as well as coming across as a bad person, she comes across as tiresome and lacking in self awareness.

Good, she hasn't earned the right to be in this film.

Any and all celeb cameos as "themselves" is a terrible idea. Dates the movie. No celeb stays a headline grabber for long.

The way Listnook has a circlejerk (with multiple meanings here!) every time she is posted will never fail to entertain me.

Ugh, she has such a Mormon White Superiority Look about her. The Gene/Jeans thing and now getting shoehorned in everything due to a contract and not actual talent

Man she must have one hell of an agent or manager. She has gotten sooooo many good opportunities, yet she has fumbled almost all of them.

All she had to do was denounce white supremely and couldn’t even do that. Good job loser!

I have never seen her give a good performance, and it’s embarrassing how big her career as an actress is. I am willing to bet she was cut because she couldn’t convincingly play herself. She’s a model with lines. Not an actress.

I have a feeling this film will still be bad. I’ll watch it but I’ll wait for streaming.

While reading these comments, halfway through there was an AE ad with SS smiling ear to ear (looks like a random photo). Almost as if she's in here litterslly looking at everyone in here saying how tired of her they are, how mid she is looks-wise (and talent-wise), b****, and more b**** lol.
