Half of that is TSMC at a $2 Trillion market cap. Crazy.

I wonder what happens when the bubble inevitably bursts and half their orders are still unfulfilled. I'm not sure hanging half your economy on one company is sustainable, especially when that company is so interconnected with western tech companies.

It’s not like TSMC was struggling for orders before AI came into play lol

I dont think you have a full grasp of how vital TSMC is to the world economy. The company is single handedly the reason why the west will 100% act on Taiwan's behalf if China tries to invade.

Yay, someone gets it! The risk of something bad happening to them is what keeps China from doing anything more than talk about action there.

>Taiwan overtook the UK in stock market value as the island’s tech firms regained favor amid hopes for further de-escalation in the Iran war. >Taiwan’s market capitalization rose to $4.14 trillion as of Wednesday, making it the world’s seventh largest, according to data compiled by Bloomberg that show the combined value of companies with a primary listing on the island. The UK’s market was valued at around $4.09 trillion.

And NVDA's beats both of them. It's hard to imagine so much wealth in a single company.

That’s because it isn’t. It’s the same money bouncing around different companies and being counted on each hop.

Hard to believe that an economy dedicated to financial services and nostalgia got beat by people who actually make shit

Sure, and when the stock market crashes it has no effect on the economy 😂. To quote a certain jihadist "he (that) which can destroy a thing, owns that thing"

eh “making stuff” isn’t just factories anymore and the uk’s large service industry isn’t just finance either; it’s software, ip, ai, biotech, research, fintech, creative industries etc and even if you ignore that it still has the 2nd largest aerospace industry globally one of the leading pharma hubs and a solid base of high end engineering and advanced manufacturing firms.

I just chalk it up to people shitting on "how things used to be" who don't really understand how things used to be or are now. Does the UK economy have issues, sure we are over dependent on the US (though most of our trade is as you'd expect with EU/Europe) which isn't maybe a great idea *waves at the world* but we are also doing well in a bunch of areas.

Well that and the *enormous* financial speculation of the shit they make

thewavefixation Apr 16, 2026 -12
As opposed to the enormous lack of anything that would ask an investor to look to the UK for anything really

yubnubster Apr 16, 2026 +12
The UK has the third highest level of foreign investment in tech after China and the US.

Jerri_man Apr 16, 2026 +8
I don't think you understand what the economy is in either country or what the market cap reflects tbh

It's literally just one company.

Safer when they weren't in the spotlight. Now China sees greater importance than ever before.

Imagine if China ended up taking Taiwan.

Dry_Departure_7813 Apr 16, 2026 +6
Tbf, at this point I wouldn't be suprised if china offered to put trumps name on a sky scraper and the US just gave them Taiwan

WolfpackConsultant Apr 16, 2026 +1
China is a big country, he'd need at least 3 skyscrapers
