I read the article, but it's not clear to me if this is any more provocative than what China is constantly doing to Taiwan. In the article they say that it's more often, as they build a "new normal" of intruding more frequently. Whether that means China will finally make their move soon? Who knows.

Your reaction validates their point. You and many others don't see this as an actual move that demands a response anymore.

I'm not saying they won't make their move soon, I'm saying that they're being so methodical about it, that it's impossible to tell when. And honestly, what exactly are the rest of us supposed to do about it? We're already dealing with one world superpower bullying everyone, we're not exactly in a position to take on China too. At least, I know Canada isn't ready for that.

Canada for one needs to stop dragging it's feet on a Taiwan trade deal and set up proper guardrails and redlines on the China one. Whatever happened to diversifying to prevent political influence?

I mean, make a compelling deal. Right now allyship with america is not worth anything, you give their capital all the good contracts, let their marines run roughshod in your cities, and yet when things get tense we pull out entirely to go defend our only true ally
At this rate its either join china, maybe maintain the current situation indefinitely, or side with the Eurozone. At our current trajectory China will be the only logical choice within a decade.

Some of y'all have lost your minds.
Trump will be gone in three years. Canada cutting ties with the US and allying with China instead would be such a crazy, reactionary move. Especially since it would effectively make an enemy out of a military superpower that you share a multiple thousand mile border with.

The population that voted in Trump twice won’t be gone in 3 years.
Trump threat to annex Canada barely budged his support from his base.
The fact you think it’s Canada making an enemy out of America to react to their threat show how delusional the American population is. If you want peace, prepare for war. We are not prepared for war with US and this needs to change.
US already made claim to tens of thousands of sqmile of Canadian waters in violation of UNCLOs, far worse than what China is doing in SCS; and this happened under Biden.
What happens when US no longer wants oil to be freely traded globally and decide it wants the oil from Canada? Or control of fresh water from the Great Lakes? Or the vast quality of other natural resources?

I don't think any of this justifies allying with China like he's saying. Canada and Taiwan are in the same boat here.

It's provocation. If they're preparing to attack, it will take weeks if not months of preparation and setting up the staging ground, like what Russia did before invading Ukraine. They will be seen by satellites and social media. There is no way to hide that much ordnance and manpower. You won't hear war came out of the blue unless it's just launching ICBMs. Even US had to spent weeks positioning their carriers and it was just to lob bombs and missiles.

For anybody wondering, Chinese warships operate near Taiwanese waters on a near daily basis and it’s part of their “grey zone” tactics. Basically testing Taiwan’s defenses, putting pressure on the government, and making this the new “normal”.

By that he means past the halfway line between Penghu/Taiwan and the continent. Past drills and incursions are usually much closer and the PRC regularly declares exercise zones that are 30-40km to Taiwan and 150km from their ports. Not to mention exercises on the east coast of Taiwan which are hundreds of km away from the continent.

This is what people like to call Freedom of Navigation in international waters

China wouldn't care anyways if they claim it's internal territorial waters. Either way, freedom of transit is different from military exercises is different from innocent passage.

There's no force buildup and may is a terrible time to start an amphibious invasion in this part of the world because we're entering wet monsoon and typhoon season.
China has and is continuously intruding Taiwan's air and sea space to basically wear down their operational tempo and also to probe what their standard responses are. But there's no imminent invasion.

Globally ofc.
How many wars has China started? How many civilians slaughter? And now compare the numbers with the US and Russia.
I'm not saying China is not trying to expand their territory or is kind to their neighbors, just less of a warmonger than the US and Russia.

Do you really want to start counting? China killed tens of millions of their own people during the cultural revolution...
How about we just say an evil country is an evil country?

Very recent and relevant data point. We are comparing a country that hadn't had a war for over 45 years with two countries that are at war *right now* and have had several wars in the last 20 years.
I'm not saying China is the gold standard for peaceful country, far from it, but compared to countries that bombed civilians in the last 30 days it is "more peaceful", which is all I said. And that's not a high bar to clear.

Which country isn't at war right now? China, USA, Russia are all actively at war currently.
All three are evil. Don't try to justify what China is doing to Taiwan just because another a****** is also doing something to another country.
There can be more than one evil country out there.

Where is China at war currently? I didn’t know China is bombing Taiwan right now in comparison with Iran and Ukraine.
Yet you are paid (at least I hope you are being paid) to write 50 comments a day about a country that hasn’t went to war in 47 years.
Never seen you criticize Russia or US or Israel, only spend hours on Listnook everyday being Lai’s strongest soldier.

China is at war with Taiwan... No peace agreement was ever signed between China and Taiwan. They use this fact to justify using their political interference within Taiwan's international status, and as a reason why they circle the island with their military.
50 comments a day? I haven't posted 50 comments yet this week, and most of my comments are about espresso, video games, and vinyl records.
And you think I am for Russia??? No. I just talk about Taiwan because it is where I am from. Russia is a dictator, and Trump has wet dreams about becoming Putin or Xi.

Farronski9 hr ago
War is when jets fly, tanks roll and people die, not when there is a piece of paper that states it. Otherwise Russia is not at war with Ukraine, it's only a "SMO" and whatever the US/Israel call their bombing of Iran is also not a war.
A murderer that kills people is worse than someone that only threatens.

Idk how to argue against that since... China is not at war with Taiwan. They are doing some military drills, yes, but that's not war.
I am currently in Taiwan, and can tell you, a warzone looks different.
