Says a lot about how toothless the ‘reunification’ crowd is, that the best “Pro-Beijing” platform the KMT stooges can realistically propose is “let’s only buy a *ton* of US weapons, instead of a *f*** ton*?”

Smart Taiwanese don't want to be a proxy battlefield for America's last gasp at hegemony.

Is it still considered a proxy when two powers are directly fighting each other with their own soldiers? Because lets be real here, there will be U.S. soldiers fighting Chinese soldiers if Taiwan is to last more than a day.

By the gods I would hope so, but I doubt there's any other country that cares enough to actually get boots involved on the island to fight in place of the U.S.

Taiwan is a great nation. Maybe they can annex mainland through compelled glasnost.

I have relatives/friends who is sick and tired of DPP's policy/direction but they took one look at KMT and decided that DPP is the lesser evil.

Generations of hatred and distrust toward China, which isn't unwarrant. Especially when they saw how CCP handled HK. Regardless this is smart, at least Taiwan should bid their time until Trump's term end. They are much smaller country against the super power, they NEED to play smart not using their egos. As long as they don't get invaded they will still have a chance to be free. It doesn't need to happen within this generation.

It really hasn’t been that long since KMT retreated to Taiwan, there is no “generations of hate towards China”, lol.

KMT retreated to Taiwan in 1949. Guess how many generations since then, genius?

When they fled to Taiwan they r still “China”. They linger on being the representative of China for another decade or so, PRC is only internationally recognized in 1971. If we go with a generation is somewhere between 20-30 years, then it is 3 generations at max, 2 by reasonable estimate. And in order to create the “generations of hate” that is ur narrative, we need to install brain chips to every single Taiwanese baby who were born post 1970 so they just come with unceasing hatred towards the mainlander, lmfao.

It was a war, what do you think had happened there, genius? Do you think KMT needed to flee to Taiwan because they lost a rock paper scissors game or something? KMT was governed China before CCP so how many do you think had died and fled? And what do you think happened to their relatives that couldn't or hadn't fled? If you really know Taiwan then you should know it's a fact that A LOT of them really dislike China to the point it's an insult to even guess that they're Chinese, not Taiwanese. By now those Chineses who original fled to Taiwan are grandparents or even great grandparents. So I can't see how what I said was wrong.

They were China even after they have fled mainland. They claimed, and were treated, as THE China for almost 2 decades on international stage. Most of Taiwanese didn’t hate China at this time, because they r China. It has only been 2 generations since they were driven out of UN as the China representative. The attempt to split Taiwanese identity away from the Chinese one is extremely recent. The previous DPP president Tsai literally said she was Chinese during earlier stages of her political career, and the current, more hard core pro-independence DPP presidency under Lai is far worse on poll compared to Tsai. At the meantime KMT (the more pro China party) has the most seat of legislature and the last attempt by DPP have failed to recall even a single one of them. By your logic KMT should be the one that despise China the most as they were the one that was in war with them. They don’t. By your logic KMT, as the more Pro China party, should lost their political influence due to the generational hate of Taiwanese. They don’t. The truth is Taiwan society is extraordinarily polarized, and vast majority prefer status quo. People need to stop learning history from fkn YouTube short and TikTok, the sense of nuance is lost on them.

lmao said by a guy who clearly learnt everything from Youtube. Listen, I'm a 3rd generation Chinese immigrant I had been to China/HK/Taiwan almost every single year. Tell me more about it. You can choose to believe whatever you want but it doesn't mean they're facts. Go say that to any Taiwaneses in their faces that they're China and Taiwan is China, I dare you.

Yeah dude I am just casually making up the literal legislature composition of Taiwan. I have spoken plenty of times, to people from RoC/Taiwan, that they r Han and r ethnically Chinese, whether they feel they belong or not belong to the political entity that is PRC is irrelevant to that fact, and plenty would agree. The “I dare you” really isn’t as ballsy as u think it is. U being third gen Chinese immigrants add absolutely nothing to this discussion, considering u as an individual cannot speak for any community as a whole, especially when u have immigrated away from said community. If u don’t have any counter arguments towards how the current society of Taiwan is not going along with ur “generations of hate” statement, what r u even trying to argue at this point?

To see how far you're willing to embarrass yourself. Listen, it's clear to anyone who is from east asia that you know nothing since you downplayed the event where KMT fled to Taiwan. You can keep pretending but it's like talking to a crazy guy so I won't bother anymore. Believe in whatever you want and keep embarassing youself, I won't stop you if that's your kink.

Sadly I think Taiwan is realizing that perhaps being Hong Kong 2.0 is better than being Ukraine/Iran 2.0

Sadly, there are people who still think Hong Kong is better off being ruled by a white lord from the UK.

I'm sure the pro-democracy protestors that were arrested after Hong Kong ownership was transferred agree with you.

The colonized 2nd class citizen paying taxes to the UK before the transfer knows whats up. The pro-democracy protestors couldnt exist before the transfer.

> The pro-democracy protestors couldnt exist before the transfer. You are so close. You are almost there. Why weren't there any people protesting to have their right to choose their elected officials restored before the transfer?
4
Skythewood 3 days ago -3
You are so so close to the truth. Why was a democractic rights group formed 2 years before the transfer? Why do pro colonists exist? Do people prefer to be 2nd class citizens and be exploited?

1Beholderandrip 3 days ago +4
> prefer to be 2nd class citizens and be exploited? We're all 2nd class citizens. And we're all being exploited. The difference between the two of us is I prefer to choose the people that exploit me so there is the illusion of control. Just because you accept you don't have a choice in your leaders doesn't mean other people feel the same way.

Good point. I had completely forgotten about Bloody Sunday. But that was 54 years ago, so hopefully you can forgive my spotty memory. I really hope that's what you're referring to and not the terrorist attacks in 67 where protestors got accidentally shot during crossfires, because I think intention matters here.

Taiwan does not have a future. The island is doomed due to the geography of proximity to the mainland. If the PRC is smart, they don't even need to force their hand into invading Taiwan. It is pointless. With the political situation with Taiwanese government right now and the pressure of the global economy, the outlook is grim for the island. The sad part that this island is now becoming a bargaining chip for the orange bufoon when dealing with XJP.
