I’m not expecting these episodes to be remastered, but I’m also hoping they aren’t VHS quality.

Morgan-Moonscar Apr 10, 2026 +121
Considering they made a point of mentioning these will be **Uncensored**, I'd imagine they've been remastered to some degree to accomplish that.
121
cylonfrakbbq Apr 10, 2026 +78
They weren't censored when they ran on HBO originally. I was there, 10,000 years ago...
78
potatochipsbagelpie Apr 10, 2026 +24
Were they censored on HBO?
24
thrillhoMcFly Apr 10, 2026 +37
I don't think my dvds are censored, so its at least the quality of those.
37
MartinTheMorjin Apr 10, 2026 +25
The dvds are not censored.
25
Morgan-Moonscar Apr 10, 2026 +13
No, when aired in syndication. Some of the less than legal copies of this that have been flying around were from VHS recordings of those which censored some of the good stuff.
13
Borange_Corange Apr 10, 2026 +9
Censored Tales From the Crypt is like pizza without cheese.

SirWEM Apr 10, 2026 +2
Nope.

Creative-Package6213 Apr 10, 2026 +1
No
1
blahblahshowmeurcat Apr 10, 2026 +32
Honestly… everything is so high quality now.. I would be totally ok with this being VHS quality. It’s fun horror, and the nostalgia would be so nice :) Like being a kid again.
32
FeralPsychopath Apr 10, 2026 +37
VHS quality on a new TV is painful
37
ChunkYards Apr 10, 2026 +6
Weird question but how much have you watched? My eyes got strangely used to it like when tvs switched to HD and looked weird at first. My tv is like 4 years old so that might be part of it
6
FeralPsychopath Apr 10, 2026 +6
Tonnes in my quest to watch my favourite TV from childhood. Cartoons are fine, but recorded television is a blocky, smudgy mess. I remember finally finding a copy of The Storyteller and everything was a smudge on a 4K TV if there was any movement (if still, it was fine). Then Blurays happened and my life was complete :)
6
PerforatedPie Apr 10, 2026 +5
The blockiness is from compression to make it into a small file size, because people naivey think low quality analogue and low quality digital are the same thing. You probably need quite a high quality digital encode to avoid making the analogue fuzziness much worse.

crespoh69 Apr 10, 2026 +1
I've gotten a couple of terabytes over the last few years, some of it old series like King of the Hill, Fresh Prince, Hanging with Mr Cooper, etc. Hearing that this is coming to streaming means my setup might be upgrading it's quality soon because you definitely notice on these old shows
1
TheGorgoronTrail Apr 10, 2026 +2
You ain’t kiddin. Tried watching The Fall Guy series recently and I couldn’t even see the actors faces on the stream i was on.
2
blahblahshowmeurcat Apr 10, 2026
You’re not wrong But dang it lol it’s nice to dream about :)
0
chickyloo42by10 Apr 10, 2026 +2
I can’t watch Army of Darkness with anything but vhs quality. Just hits different actually seeing the shitty effects.
2
balgus82 Apr 11, 2026 +1
Reminds me of when I first watched Jeepers Creepers at my brother's house. He had a bootleg version so it was filmed by someone watching at a theater. Then years later I tried watching it again and it wasn't anywhere near as creepy cuz everything was so much clearer.
1
blahblahshowmeurcat Apr 10, 2026 +1
Yessss you get it. There is something about that old quality blurring out the inconsistencies that makes everything more scary :)) I always go on a Hitchcock kick during Halloween season- and with our big beautiful new tv, and everything remastered.. it takes you out of the creepies
1
Suitable-Judge7506 Apr 10, 2026 +1
I was going to say this, I’d much rather watch it the same way as I did as a kid than a new looking show
1
AbbreviationsOdd8312 Apr 10, 2026 +3
There was a dude on YouTube for years that had 4k uploads. Just went to check his page recently and they were down. Bummer. I would think shudder would do the same. We will see.
3
TostitoNipples Apr 10, 2026 +1
I’ve been searching forever for these, he used to post on listnook about it but all the links got nuked
1
AbbreviationsOdd8312 Apr 10, 2026 +1
RIP. I was pretty bummed when I seen they weren’t up anymore. After a taste I may need to re up on Shudder.

Was Nancy Pelosi busy?
1
kpt_graubrot Apr 10, 2026 +2
I have a blu ray release where the first season is obviously remastered but for the others it looks like they used old TV masters. Not as bad as VHS quality, but disappointing if you compare it to how good it can look for the first season.
2
mattevil8419 Apr 11, 2026 +1
Even with the DVD 📀 it was like that. The trade off was the remastered first season didn’t have the opening attached to it.
1
Jfury412 Apr 16, 2026 +1
Everywhere online I've read about them says that all seven seasons will be RESTORED.
1
Barkerfan86 Apr 10, 2026 +1
I have the dvd set, and the quality is pretty decent. Heres hoping they use that lol
1
buzzbot235 Apr 10, 2026 +2
I’ve only watched episodes on YT. They aren’t awful but I really hope they don’t look like that on Shudder.
2
TurkeyVolumeGuesser Apr 10, 2026 +123
"Looks like we'll all be STREAMING bloody murder, EHEEHEEHEEHEEHEE!"

Didn’t know I needed this until I saw it.

ChunkYards Apr 10, 2026 +5
I hope to God we get some new crypt keeper moments

Well looks like I’ll be a new subscriber to shudder. This used to scare the shit out of me as a kid. I imagine most of it are things I had no business watching at 8.
75
kcamnodb Apr 10, 2026 +24
At the time I was like hey I like Are You Afraid of The Dark and this is basically the same thing ...
24
ArJay84 Apr 10, 2026 +7
Same! Found out differently REAL quick
7
scottyb83 Apr 10, 2026 +6
I started with Goosebumps, then Are You Afraid of the Dark, then Takes of the Cryptkeeper (animated show) and then found Takes from the Crypt.
6
ascagnel____ Apr 10, 2026 +1
There was also a kids game show with the Crypt Keeper.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secrets_of_the_Cryptkeeper%27s_Haunted_House
1
peeps001 Apr 10, 2026 +2
I never even heard of Shudder.
2
Comprehensive_Bank_6 Apr 10, 2026 +3
Its a struggling horror app that recently canned cult favorite host Joe Bob Briggs. Some months content is great others its not.
3
stevencastle Apr 10, 2026 +2
That's a shame, he's been doing his show for around 30 years.
2
RoiVampire Apr 10, 2026 +1
I remember staying up late at my aunt and uncles house so I could watch it on the tv in the attic where I was staying. The episode had Demi Moore in it and all i remember was her hair was kinda short and wavy and she was gorgeous. Don’t even know what the episode was about, I think she was covering up a murder, so I’ll be checking that one out first.
1
Aades100 Apr 10, 2026 +28
"Season 1 will debut on May 1 on the streamer, with additional seasons rolling out every Friday through June 12." That's great news!
28
Truth_Walker Apr 10, 2026 +6
As much as I love the show, I’m done subscribing to this many streaming services.
6
GOA_AMD65 Apr 11, 2026 +1
If it’s on a streaming service, it means pirate copies will be much easier to come by.
1
Applekid1259 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Yup. A million different channels all nickel and diming you to death. Tales From the Crypt is awesome. I have it on my media server right now. I actually watched a couple episodes a few days ago.
1
Truth_Walker Apr 10, 2026
I hope one of the major streamers gets the bright idea to start buying up a bunch of the little guys and treats them like branches of the main company. I dont want the little guys to go out of business but streaming in its current state isn’t very consumer friendly, we need some consolidation in subscriptions.

Randym1982 Apr 10, 2026 +58
I’m kind of surprised this wasn’t on HBO Max, because the show originally aired on HBO in its heyday.
58
threeoldbeigecamaros Apr 10, 2026 +21
Same for Dream On
21
CJTus Apr 10, 2026 +13
*Dream On* is owned by NBC Universal. HBO merely aired it.
13
FelopianTubinator Apr 10, 2026 +3
Don’t forget The Hitchhiker.
3
mattevil8419 Apr 10, 2026 +1
I’d be interested in seeing that since I think even the DVDs were incomplete
1
FelopianTubinator Apr 11, 2026 +2
Correct. Even if you have the long out-of-print complete seasons of 1, 3 and 4 (there was no 2nd season, and each season has 3 dvds), those still aren't actually complete. There are still 2 episodes, "Doctor's Orders" and "Minuteman" that have never been released on physical media and have only ever been released through syndication.
2
saskatoonshred Apr 10, 2026 +4
The rights for it were a huge pain to deal with. From my understanding it's mostly the people who own the rights to the EC Comics properties being difficult to work with and the music rights as well. Warner Bros tried to do a reboot series with M Knight Shyamalan involved about a decade ago but it didn't move forward because of the EC rights.
4
mattevil8419 Apr 10, 2026 +2
I heard the big hold out was Joel Silver who owns the rights to the Zombie Crypt Keeper look(the comics one is more human looking) and he didn’t get along with the EC Comics /Gaines family.
2
ranhalt Apr 10, 2026 +6
Even when a company owns content and has their own streaming platform (which is where we are now), they still delist things they own to avoid paying royalties when they know the views are costing them more than they are “making” when they do the math of how much it’s viewed.
6
Useful_Respect3339 Apr 11, 2026 +1
HBO didn’t create the characters or many of the stories. It was adapted from comic books. They only licensed and produced it.
1
robo2na Apr 10, 2026 +34
How about a blu-ray box set.
34
valdrinemini Apr 10, 2026 +2
Does HBO even still have film reels for the later stuff ? I just remembered this series being a copyright nightmare on who owns what.
2
ranhalt Apr 10, 2026 -2
And who is paying people to remaster it?
-2
Jfury412 Apr 16, 2026 +2
It's going to be remastered.
2
Ok_Contact7721 Apr 14, 2026 +1
I mean, that wouldn't be too hard to figure out. Each group that owns the rights to it might want to invest and get a slice of the pie.

4
Alternative-Juice-15 Apr 10, 2026 +5
I just started rewatching this for the first time since the 90s…so far it has not disappointed
5
stevencastle Apr 10, 2026 +2
The show is so well done and just full of a-list talent. The episodes are pretty accurate if you look at the comics the stories are taken from, as well.
2
BigBadJeebus Apr 10, 2026 +6
Should have been on HBO Max since day one...
6
coys21 Apr 10, 2026 +5
I live around the corner from John Kassir. He's a cool dude.
5
Tolkien-Minority Apr 10, 2026 +5
Is this worldwide or just US?
5
dfla01 Apr 10, 2026 +2
I’m wondering the same. I’m not filled with hope given how barebones the catalogue is in Ireland
2
NoTitleChamp Apr 10, 2026 +1
No mention about worldwide and given Shudders history, from a UK perspective I'm not expecting it.
1
Hari_Azole Apr 10, 2026 +5
😱😱😱 finally!
5
jkvincent Apr 10, 2026 +5
Duuuuude yes
5
Flustro Apr 10, 2026 +8
Finally! I have the DVDs, but it's so much more convenient to be able to stream them.
8
WintersDoomsday Apr 10, 2026 +3
Yeah switching discs is annoying but it’s a nice reason to get off the couch during a binge
3
Flustro Apr 10, 2026 +5
It's more that I like not having to bring a big boxed set of DVDs to a friend's place to watch them together there. Lol
5
JinxWRLD999 Apr 10, 2026 +3
Why not rip them? Laptop, USB DVD Player and MakeMKV.
3
stevencastle Apr 10, 2026 +2
Handbrake is good for stuff like this, you can just queue up all the discs.
2
Curious_Biscotti569 Apr 11, 2026 +1
just download them and stream over network using Plex. own em and cost 0. Golden.
1
TitShark Apr 10, 2026 +2
I think the hold up was who had the rights to Crypt Keepers IP?
2
Horror_Neighborhood9 Apr 10, 2026 +6
I think it was a contractual issue between the Gaines estate and Warner Bros. regarding character licensing, and maybe granular monetary details therein. So glad the show will be streamable again!
6
saskatoonshred Apr 10, 2026 +2
From my understanding this and music rights were the pain points trying to do anything with the franchise. Whoever owns the rights to the EC Comics stuff happily works with companies for reprints of the comics (and revivals like the one Oni Press is currently doing). But TV/movies are where they get real hesitant.
2
cardaderdention Apr 11, 2026 +1
I heard in an interview with John Kassir that pretty much the Gaines estate and Joel Silver had been at odds for decades. Mind you Joel Silver was only one of four producers of the show, but all it takes is one to hold everything up. Make it more complicated the producers had the copyright to the likeness of the crypt keeper puppet but not the name crypt keeper, the name takes from the crypt, or the stories themselves.
1
Issyv00 Apr 10, 2026 +4
Holy hell this is good news.
4
iDelkong Apr 10, 2026 +4
Just rewatched the old Tales From the Crypt's "Demon Knight" not too long ago! Still love it! Glad to see this is finally coming to streaming.
4
OniExpress Apr 10, 2026 +11
LMAO. They just lost a bunch of subscribers for canceling Last Drive In. Probably should have saved that for at least after this announcement. Or, you know, not cancel Last Drive In.
11
Subject2Change Apr 10, 2026 +4
7.33 seasons and a marathon, can't complain that much... Seems like they're dropping making original content besides the "films" they slap their logo on.
4
nyrf12 Apr 10, 2026 +4
It was a long run in this era & he’s morphed it into something that could work as a touring show if he wants and/or finding a new streaming home doesn’t work out.
4
Procrasturbating Apr 10, 2026 +3
My first remembered nightmare came from this show.
3
ShyguyFlyguy Apr 10, 2026 +3
I remember this being the epitome of TV horror when I was in elementary
3
Despair_Tire Apr 10, 2026 +3
Omg I've been waiting for these to come to streaming and I have shudder. Yes!
3
cynicalmarketer Apr 10, 2026 +3

3
Intrepid_Top_2300 Apr 10, 2026 +3
Can’t even get this on HBO/MAX. Damn!
3
ArsonHoliday Apr 10, 2026 +5
This entire series is on YouTube last I checked. Edit: just checked the playlist I had saved and almost all it was removed. Bummer.
5
Morgan-Moonscar Apr 10, 2026 +1
Yeah, that happened to me a lot over the years. Found a good playlist of this in semi-decent quality, saved it, binged a few episodes... then it gets copyright removed.
1
MadEyeMood989 Apr 10, 2026 +1
I think it was CryptTube I believe who had some great HD enhanced episodes and disappeared without a trace.
1
Morgan-Moonscar Apr 10, 2026 +4
And then Internet Archive had them, until... disappeared without a trace.
4
Grunblau Apr 10, 2026 +2
Interesting factoid: I believe they used left over Chucky eyes for the Crypt keeper
2
Harbinger90210 Apr 10, 2026 +2
Apparently it’s the same puppet, which makes a lot of sense because as a kid there were literally only two things that scared me. Chucky and the Crypt Keeper. When I found out they used the same puppet and eyes the stars aligned and I understood.
2
PhantomLimbss Apr 10, 2026 +2
What news to get while Im actually wearing a glow in the dark TFTC shirt. Yessssssss

NGL in today’s world, this is one of those things that just makes me really happy
2
Hayterfan Apr 10, 2026 +2
Guess I'll be subscribing to Shudder for a bit. Tales from the Crypt was one of my favorite shows as a kid. Granted in retrospect I have no idea why my parents let me watch it when I was like 3yo.
2
Curious_Biscotti569 Apr 11, 2026 +1
just download them and stream them. zero reason to subscribe.
1
rem_1984 Apr 10, 2026 +2
Omg! Might have to get shudder again
2
Curious_Biscotti569 Apr 11, 2026 +1
or just download them and stream. that simple.
1
belljs87 Apr 10, 2026 +2
My girlfriend's favorite horror show, streaming for the first time ever on my birthday
2
SoulTaker669 Apr 10, 2026 +2
On another note, does anyone else remember that TV show from Discovery kids called truth or scare?
2
asula_mez Apr 10, 2026 +2
Release Secrets from the Cryptkeepers Haunted House you COWARDS!!
2
ArchDucky Apr 10, 2026 +2
Fun Fact : The Crypt Keeper Puppet was originally built from an old Childs Play puppet. The creator kept the same eyes in both puppets.
2
CrankinThatHog Apr 10, 2026 +2
Watching it as an adult I understand the campiness of the crypt keeper. As a child it made me so scared I'd shriek and terror and start crying
2
fingertrapt Apr 10, 2026 +2
The Hamlet episode has stuck whey me for years.
2
JfromtheGrey Apr 10, 2026 +2
I gave up on Shudder when they canned Joe Bob.
2
Stunning_Bed23 Apr 10, 2026 +4
Idiotic that this isn’t on HBO Max.
4

To this day I am terrified of swimming to shore from a raft. Oil slicks are extremely fast in water.
4
Horror_Neighborhood9 Apr 10, 2026 +16
That’s one of the vignettes in “Creepshow 2”, but I wholeheartedly concur.
16
lyon810 Apr 10, 2026 +2
Looks like Pam Bondi
2
Mijder Apr 10, 2026 +3
Sorry Shudder, I’m still salty bout Joe Bob.
3
tequilasauer Apr 10, 2026 +1
Legit question, is Shutter worth it? I am a horror fan, but it seemed to be a lot of junk content when I looked at it last, which was a few years ago. It kinda seems like they've been beefing up on quality content the last few years. May need to drop another service and pick this up.
1
nyrf12 Apr 10, 2026 +5
The content makes up for how (IMHO) awful the UI & annoying the app is.
5
Morgan-Moonscar Apr 10, 2026 +2
Can you subscribe to it through another app? Like AppleTV or Hulu or Prime?
2
nyrf12 Apr 10, 2026 +3
It’s available through Prime for sure.
3
Devilofchaos108070 Apr 10, 2026 +2
If you like Horror it’s worth a sub for a month or two. The Creepshow series is there as well. It’s an anthology like TftC but not as good. They also have a ton of movies and some other tv shows
2
Dittymaker Apr 10, 2026 +2
They have some really good original films. If you do subscribe I'd recommend trying any of these: Dead Stream Influcer and the sequel Influencers When Evil Lurks Host MadS Oddity There's more too but I don't want to make the list too long
2
tequilasauer Apr 10, 2026 +3
So on this list, the only one I've seen is Oddity and I liked it quite a bit. So this is definitely in my lane. I may jump on this subscription this weekend. Thank you!
3
Dittymaker Apr 10, 2026 +1
The app also has the first movie by the director of Oddity called Caveat. It wasn't quite as good as Oddity but the 3rd act is amazing
1
runnerofshadows Apr 10, 2026 +1
It comes with amc plus iirc and that combo is definitely worth it.
1
tequilasauer Apr 10, 2026 +1
Looking at this deal now. This is pretty good. I think I'm going to start the trial this weekend. Curious about the Sundance channel too.
1
Icarus1 Apr 10, 2026 +1

I remember watching these as a kid early 90's on one of our four channels, late at night. Anyone remember the network?
1
Devilofchaos108070 Apr 10, 2026 +1
It originally aired on hbo.
1
DeadHead2002 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Not the reruns I don't think. We lived in the country with no cable. Fox maybe...?
1
Devilofchaos108070 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Oh I couldn’t tell you. Sounds like something Fox might air with the censored ones
1
Izak430 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Isn't Shudder shutting down this year?
1
ginjji Apr 10, 2026 +1
I watched Tales From the Crypt on Netflix a while back so I don't know what this is on about
1
frank1934 Apr 10, 2026 +1
What’s Shudder, and why can’t I find it on my vseebox?
1
thatssoshandy Apr 10, 2026 +1
I rewatched all of this not too long ago. I can’t believe I watched this as a child. What was wrong with my aunt showing me this? Lol.
1
Poopywoopypants Apr 10, 2026 +1
Looks like I'm getting shudder
1
MobiusDie Apr 10, 2026 +1
I could swear I saw this on Pluto.
1
rick912 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Can't stream with my HBO subscription. WTF?
1
jtrisn1 Apr 11, 2026 +1
Time to resub to Shudder lol
1
terriblesecretofspac Apr 11, 2026 +1
I've said this many times and I'll say it again for the new kids... As I get poorer and poorer, the last streaming service I cancel will be Shudder. It's the right price and it's run by people are are into horror. My favorite service. Edit: And I don't give a blue whale's fart it's included with AMC+. Screw that. I subscribe to Shudder.
1
Jfury412 Apr 16, 2026 +1
The news sources I've read said all seven seasons will be RESTORED and uncensored.
1
MiggyFly 1 day ago +1
So excited! I had no business sneakily watching this when I was 9yrs old.
1
supercoolpartydude Apr 10, 2026 +1
Even the weird British final season? Lol
1
XThePlaysTheThingX Apr 10, 2026 +1
This is kind of a big deal. I recall reading that getting all the rights in order would be quite the undertaking considering each episode having distinct directors, writers, music, performers etc.
1
GhostGamer_Perona Apr 10, 2026 +1
I’m still waiting on tales from the dark side to be streaming
1
