I think retiring as an actor is such an interesting concept, because I totally get that if I had enough money I wouldn't work anymore at my job. But I feel like I wouldn't be totally closed off in an artistic field just in case something super interesting came along. Or like "we're filming Mamma Mia 3 on location in Greece, come get a vacation while not needing to actually sing well."

I think as well, she's not a dominant personality particularly, and you can't have 5 total loudmouths. There's a *dynamic* to the group each season.
And/or sometimes what you think would be quite dominant, loud personalities almost reign their natural tendencies in, conscious to be part of an ensemble (e.g. Frankie Boyle).
So basically: she's an ideal personality as part of a group. Although as with any Oscar w*****, I'd worry about her fee. I remember they said Jason last year was a bit of an investment into cracking America, because he wasn't c****, and I vaguely recall that getting him was the cause of the delays.

Kamil's (who is one this season) said his agent told him the same thing. Basically a "I don't care if I won't get paid well, I want to be on taskmaster".
And I think the show is much better when you can tell that the people on it desperately want to be there and/or win

I think both things are true. He was paid lots more than any other contestant, and whatever that number was is still a good deal less than he would have earned working other projects.
3

+57
TM contestants have a flat fee. They all earn exactly the same amount, regardless of fame or how long they've been in the industry. Contestants have talked about this in podcasts.
I think you got confused about Jason. He wasn't paid differently. Being on TM was an investment *for* Jason because he had to pay his own flights and accomodations back and forth. Combined with lost time for other work, he may have actually lost money joining the show. But that's what he wanted anyway and he was such a fan of it. (Still such a fan that he kept showing up to the TM US tour when they were in New York even though he wasn't supposed to be there. Would literally finish his show on Broadway and run to the theater where the TM live show was happening.)
There won't be a problem with Olivia Colman or Peter Capaldi (or any other UK-based actors/celebrities). They all know upfront how much they're getting paid so it's really just them wanting to be on it for the fun of it.
ETA: John Kearns accidentally revealed that it's £5k per episode, so that's £50k per series.
57
dellettMar 30, 2026
+13
Yeah, any Oscar w*****, UK or US based, who is interested in doing Taskmaster isn't interested in it for the money. Jason and Kumail could have spent the time doing guest star roles on random shows and made way more money. The show has basically become a comedy sport which is amazing.
The people that could be doing anything else but just want to have fun are such a joy to watch.

There are some NYT contestants that I wish Alex would someday bring into the regular show because they were clearly having the best time. Nicola Coughlan, for example, was an absolute delight and has enthusiastically said that she'd love to be on a regular series.
They haven't allowed any returning contestants yet but Alex said NYT contestants aren't disqualified from returning as regulars so fingers crossed it happens in the future.

I know exactly what thats from too, The Five-ish Doctors Reboot. It was this little special that Peter Davison made during the 50th about him, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy trying to sneak themselves into the 50th anniversary. It started with that clip of Olivia Colman and Sean Pertwee (son of the 3rd Doctor Jon Pertwee).

This is my guess. It makes sense considering she started in comedy.
She was also in the Cambridge Footlights, like a lot of previous Taskmaster contestants, and Alex himself. I don’t think they were there at the same time but they’re close enough in age it’s possible they know some of the same people.

> it’s possible they know some of the same people.
I'd be shocked if she hasn't worked with or doesn't know at least half of the all the contestant's that have been on the show, she shows up everywhere and is brilliant each and every time. She'd likely have the time of her life torturing Alex with Greg.

We’ve heard in various interviews and podcast anecdotes that they are filming the tasks for multiple series based on contestants availability, seemingly scheduled around when all 5 can appear in studio for one week of filming. While it may well still be Capaldi, there’s no guarantee Iannucci introduced his friend to the TM team, Capaldi might have even been secured before Iannucci but placed in S23 instead of 22.

Capaldi is quite a retiring fellow I think, and he doesn't have young children he could do this for. I would be very pleasantly surprised if he said yes to TM.
I can definitely see Olivia Colman doing it for her kids (and because it looks like a lot more fun than Hollywood film sets). More likely to be someone like Riz Ahmes though because if it was Olivia Colman, Alex would've said a lot more than "Oscar w*****." Olivia Colman is a proper comedy-acting legend who went on to become a general acting legend.

Way too expensive and also way too busy. The guy runs a studio and produces so much alongside the writing and directing.
7
narutomanreignsMar 30, 2026
I mean you're probably right and obviously Colman is the odds-on favourite, I'm just assuming a) Taskmaster is something bigger names might take a paycut to be on because they want to be on it (Colman would probably be doing the same if she was on tbh) and b) producing is mostly just putting money into a project and not actually working on it. I mean Ianucci produces things too and he's on the show.
But yes it's definitely a longshot, just throwing another option out for the sake of discussion and while it's certainly very unlikely, I don't think it's impossible.

Repeating two notes on a piano is going to bag him 1 point, and he'll be grateful.

> He gives a lot away about what he does by himself in his hotel room. He surprised himself by what he revealed.
Horne said that about Nanjiani and it's the perfect Taskmaster tease because it tells you absolutely nothing while making you desperately want to watch. He has been doing this for over a decade and still knows exactly how to sell it

My guess, based on her connections with many taskmaster alum, would be Olivia Colman?

I know we're probably thinking of British comedians who would also be Oscar winners...
But damn, if I don't want it to be Ke Huy Quan.

I always think Taskmaster has run out of potential contestants then shows like that are a good reminder of who I want on it. Alan Carr would be a fun mess, David Mitchell, Richard Ayoade, Diane Morgan, Harriet Kemsley. Some of them fit into the "if they wanted to do it, they would have by now", category though

Theres a video behind the scenes of Greg warming the crowd up before they start recording. He says something like this... "Could you imagine spending five years in a tiny apartment creating your own teleshow. It gets bought by a network and then you find out you can't even host it yourself? Well let's bring him out, its Little Alex Horne" The audience laughed, but f*** that makes me feel a little bad for Alex and it shines lights on the times Greg mentions "He really f****** hates when I do this" when he hands out bonus points or changes the point values.

Horne made the decision for the Taskmaster to be someone else, he’s discussed this in multiple interviews

Yep, he knows he is not a lead host nor a lead comedian, so he plays completely into that.

Alex Horn is very vocal how he never wanted to be tasked with master. That when selling the show he stipulated that they had to find a taskmaster.

It's not quite the same, but Paul Rudd did do an episode of Travel Man which was a bit of a shock. Definitely seems like something he'd have a blast doing too.
