We sent the 3 biggest idiots that we could. No one in the USA even trust those bozos. What do you expect?

The three stooges would have done a better job. There's more to diplomacy than "Gimme my cut".

I heard vance suggested an MMA fight on the White House lawn on America’s 250th BDay. Each country picks 3 of their best fighters and best 2 out of 3 take Hormuz.

Iran specifically asked to negotiate with Vance, so... they got what they wanted I guess? Let's be real here, neither side was really willing to cede much and Iran has time on their side in this conflict so they have no incentive to take an unfavorable deal. They know the longer this goes on, the more unpopular it becomes with the US public and the more it strangles world energy markets, which is high pressure on Trump to resolve things and only benefits Iran the longer it goes. They know nobody has the stomach for a prolonged land war invasion of Iran which would be the only way to force the Strait open.

00-Monkey 16 hr ago +20
I could see how they maybe had some hope that Vance would be better than the rest of the administration. I know I did (I knew he was unqualified but potentially better than average for MAGA, which is a low bar). Than I saw his meeting with Zelensky and realized he was as bad as the rest, if not worse. Iran is probably anti Ukraine, so it took meeting with him personally to realize what a tool he was.

Trump has never had to fix or build anything. All he has ever been is a disruptor. He's gained power from it by way of people and nations begging him to stop or refrain from doing the next destructive thing. Now Iran is the disruptor. They don't have to figure anything out. All they have to do is cause problems. Nothing else. The tables have been turned on Trump. He now bears the burden of figuring something out. Cleaning up the mess that he created. He is at a loss, and the whole world can see it...
6
beekeeper1981 16 hr ago +9
They wanted Vance because they didn't want Kushner and Witkoff. They negotiated in bad faith which led to their leadership being killed while discussing the talks. Instead they got all three.
9
Impressive-Potato 17 hr ago +18
Kushner isn't even part of the government so he wasn't sent. He tagged along for some reason
18
Small-Literature9380 14 hr ago +19
Kushner and Witkoff are part of the real government, the one that doesn't bother with details like elections, laws, Congressional procedure, Constitutional precedent. They serve money, power and Israel. The interests of the US electorate are background noise for those guys.

It wasn't a serious negotiation for the US, that's why.
443
Primsun 20 hr ago +140
Also the Trump administration's history of killing leadership during talks. Kinda hard to have diplomacy if you think the other side will "take a shot" if they got it, regardless. (Also need Israeli buy in which isn't there.)
140
taisui 20 hr ago +54
That's why JD hurried the f*** out of there lol
54
DeeperMadness 11 hr ago +7
I thought it was because of his faux pas at the start of of the negotiations. As they were beginning, they said to Vance: "Please, have a seat." To which Vance replied bashfully: "Oh she's lovely, but I haven't even bought her a drink yet."
7
GriffinFlash 19 hr ago +33
Pretty sure they used the ceasefire during the talks to sneak their ships into the strait. Now which the US has declared a blockade. Feels like anytime there is a talk or ceasefire, the US uses it to their advantage to blow something up or prepare to blow something up.

you have 2 of the least trustworthy regimes trying to negotiate.  its f****** Spy vs Spy diplomacy edition.
36
The_Follower1 17 hr ago +19
I mean, solely in the trust department is Iran not trustworthy? They held to Obama’s nuclear deal until Trump unilaterally tore it up. They’re evil without doubt, killing at minimum thousands of protestors in the recent protests but I haven’t really heard of them breaking their word on actual agreements.

> It wasn't a serious negotiation for the US, that's why.  Was it for Iran?
19
mrtwidlywinks 20 hr ago +49
They showed up with qualified negotiators. Obama got a deal, Trump/Vance demanded a return to the status quo prior to the bombing, plus demanded Iran surrender their nuclear material. Maximalist demands or giving up is no way to negotiate.
49
Best_Change4155 18 hr ago -13
>Obama got a deal, Obama negotiated over nuclear material **and nothing else**. As a result, Iran pumped billions into the IRGC, resulting in over a million dead in Syria and Yemen. I think the idea is to avoid that.
-13
mrtwidlywinks 15 hr ago +5
Iran wasn't able to enrich uranium, which was the point of the deal. Trump admin wants Iran to give up everything and for America to give up nothing, that's just not dealing with reality. Iran holds has more leverage now than before this stupid war
5
Saneless 21 hr ago +149
If they wanted Iran to trust them why did they send JD?
149
youdoitimbusy 21 hr ago +242
You should see what the Pakistani guy said about JDs bullshit. Apparently he kept adding new demands, didn't understand what Iran was offering. Left the table every 10 minutes to call Trump and ask him what he thought. Bro never had the authority to negotiate, the intelligence to understand what was being offered, or the ability to reason how this would look for the US. While Iran sent experts from every field to answer questions on the spot.

Effective-Log3583 21 hr ago +115

JD seriously has me questioning the validity of America's universities and law schools
1
Mr_Engineering 21 hr ago +46
Iran specifically requested JD because he's not been vocal in support of this conflict JD is not a diplomat and they know that. They figured that they could manipulate him.
46
orange-squeezer47 20 hr ago +1
Kushner and witikoff were there that’s why the Iranians backed off.
1
beekeeper1981 16 hr ago +15
They wanted Vance because Kushner and Witkoff fucked them over worse than anything imaginable. They got all three. No wonder they failed.
15
TruthNotTrash2 19 hr ago +15
In a battle of wits in that room, the US was unarmed. Pointe finale.
15
GuardianKnight 11 hr ago +2
You can't be unarmed when the whole point of the trip was to tell them they have no choice and to f*** off if they want to fight, and then have ships ready for a blockade. It was all a ploy to continue moving pieces so that Iran would have no choice but to give in.
2
TotalPop5 21 hr ago +29
The best case for Iran is negotiating with Vance. I don't know what exactly convinced that man to approved the war but he's one of the most vocal MAGA isolationist in the administration and overall anti-forever war, at least that's what a lot of analysts think of him. If they can't get any deal with Vance, well i guess the war will continue.
29
CipherWeaver 20 hr ago +35
The problem is that Vance didn't have the actual authority to negotiate. He kept having to defer to Trump.
35
GuardianKnight 11 hr ago +3
I guess that's what happens when you send someone as a ploy for a bigger plan.
3
awfulsome 17 hr ago +3
they just wanted JD to give them the same luck he gave Orban.

Trump couldn't even crack 50% of the voting population in the latest election. Even the majority of people that bothered turning out to vote, voted against him. The system the US uses fucks its own voters more than most administrations ever could.

This whole ceasefire was done to buy time. Pump the market and make money through insider trading. America wants to choke Asia, specifically China and India, and create a situation where every country whose trade passes through the Strait of Hormuz has to stay on good terms with America.

10
BeautifulBrownie 16 hr ago +1
I don't think the US cares about India at all. China though, sure, they'd like China to be worse off after this, but that's not the primary objective.
1

They need to sell oil and control trades, so why not asian countries?
1

I am not surprised. Jared Kushner and J.D. Vance fail to gain anybody's trust, anywhere.

Their negotiators had PhDs. Checkmate.
1
dragon_idli 22 hr ago +22
Joke of a negotiation team. Jared Kushner has deep family friendship ties with netanyahu. And he always supported israel policies along with their west bank expansion attrocities. Witkoff with his jewish identity and financial + political relationships with israel. So, no wonder iran did not feel the negotiations trustable.
22
Banjo-Oz 22 hr ago +19
I just imagined Mel Brooks in full Rabbi gear walking into the negotiating room. "Israel? Who's that? I'm just here to represent America."
19
dannyb_prodigy 17 hr ago +5
Well, when you send people who are fundamentally untrustworthy….
5
Key-Rough-8346 22 hr ago +16

3
Hommeboy75 16 hr ago +3
When you have Trump treating our allies like Canada, UK and France (to name a few) like garbage, how can anyone trust anything from this administration.
3
nlk72 21 hr ago +4
The US started bombing Iran together with Israel in the midst of negotiations, so gaining their trust will be very hard.
4
Funny-Ambition-7631 22 hr ago +4
Negotiation at war is about what cards you still have left to play, if you're empty-handed you're in trouble and will be saying such things.

No kidding. What makes this administration even close to trustworthy beyond trusting them to screw you and stab you in the back?
2
Delta27- 22 hr ago +3
Oh yeah currently iran is not respecting the ceasfire and keep blaming others... so why do they need to give them any trust when they themselves are not trustowrthy?
3

We already broke one agreement, why should they think the same people would honor another? Sort of goes all the way back to propping up the Shah.

The Trump administration wasn't wanting to do that anyway, they sent JD Vance, someone who has quite possibly the worst instinct on foreign relations.

-1

No surprise there. I wouldn't trust these idiots with watching my bike while I run in to the store, never mind running a country or running negotiations.
1
Over-Willingness-933 21 hr ago +1
The negotiations can't work when there is no central person in Iran agreeing to things. One set is moderate and another lot is extreme who want to die in flames. It's amazing there are even talks.
1
born_in_the_90s 22 hr ago +1
Should have offered Vance a couch with holes He would not refuse
1
Flat-Emergency4891 22 hr ago +1
Successful negotiations rely on both sides making sacrifices. Each side cannot have everything it wants. Good luck explaining that to someone like Trump. They need to do to him what he does to everyone else, and sell the losses as a win. In Trumps case, he can claim the strait is reopened, but we all know he’s to blame in the first place. A new news cycle will take over and we’re on to something else. It sucks, but that’s how it seems to work in America.
1
OkFix4074 20 hr ago +1
That can't be right - Let's see who is involved in the negotiation, hmm that tracks. Carry on Iran we get the gist.
