I'm not talking about underrated.
I'm talking about the type of series that probably had one timeslot during the week and that was it. If you didn't watch it at that exact time, you probably missed it for real because there no other network would pick it up and it wasn't even on-demand because nobody demanded it.
For example, two favorites of mine were Beer Money on SNY and JB Smoove: Four Courses on MSG Network. Besides the fact that these were specialty sports networks, its moreso the fact that I wasn't really a sports guy. Beer Money was a quiz show inside sports bars and baseball stadiums and and Four Courses tried replicating a natural conversation between celebrity guests during dinner.
I was into the bar atmosphere when I was younger and I liked the camaraderie found in talk shows. You can't even find these shows on the internet these days...
What's your favorite shows (no matter the genre) that you hope one day you'll find someone talking about somewhere?
There is a scene in one of the early episodes, like episode one or two, where he gets to his apartment in england and meets his neighbor. She comes in with all her kids and one of her kids says that the baby stole his cheese strings and she turns and yells at the baby like 'oi, whatdiditellyaaboutknickinpeoplescheesestrings' and it cuts to the like a 6 month old baby
That scene lives in my brain forever

Greg the Bunny - just an odd collection of ideas that really worked for me.
“Greg the Bunny was a short-lived 2002 Fox sitcom that spoofed children's shows, featuring puppets and humans working on a fictional kids' program called Sweetknuckle Junction. The show treated puppets as a real minority group, "fabricated Americans," and followed the behind-the-scenes antics of the show's production.”

Murder in Small Town X (2001)
It was during the peak beginning of reality TV in the 2000s, where contestants played the detectives and went to a small town in Maine to investigate a murder. Everyone in the town was played by actors and each week two detectives would be sent to find the killer in special areas, one area was a clue that would help eliminate suspects, the other, 'was killed' by the murderer and off the show.
It was so creepy, and watching the old tapes back on YouTube it was definitely product of its time, as reality TV was very new. But holy hell what a concept. There would be groups dudes in nice suits sweeping the streets with old brooms around town not saying a word, and watching the contestants and it was soooooo creepy. 13 yr old me was hooked.
It was cancelled after the first season as the w***** was later killed in the 9/11 attacks, he was NYC firefighter. The real town it was filmed in made a statue to memorialize him.

Insomniac with Dave Attell
Maybe not super obscure, but only ran three seasons in the early 00s on Comedy Central.
Dave, a stand-up comic, would travel to a city and explore its night-life, usually the less touristy sides, speaking with real-world people, often getting a behind-the-scenes look into professions that work 2nd and 3rd shifts. Each episode would end in the morning with Dave reminiscing about the previous night's antics. Also, one of the best theme songs ever.
Las Vegas and New Orleans episodes are standouts.
Edit: TIL there's a fourth season! I don't think I have ever seen this season. D/L'ing now!

I just assumed they each got 20 bucks a week in allowance. They often went to the Museum (which was free) or the beach where they bought cheese fries or a hotdog. Revolution. It was a post apocalyptic show in which all electronic things suddenly stopped working, even things with batteries like flashlights. It was really good imo. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolution\_(TV\_series)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolution_(TV_series))

There used to be this show in the mid-2000s called "I'm with Busey" on comedy central where the host just kind of hung out with Gary Busey and had weird, awkward adventures. Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only person who watched it

I actually discovered it working on Conrad's stop motion show, and immediately fell in love with it.

I was just thinking about this today! The show was called Seven Days and it was a time travel/fix the past type show but they could only go back exactly 7 days. The formula was something bad happens then there's this cool dynamic where they need to take time to investigate before sending the person back to fix it, but not too much time because they only have seven days from when it happened to go back and fix it. And they need time once they get there to do it. It was like Mission Impossible crossed with Quantum Leap.

Awake
Jason Isaacs plays a man who gets in a car crash with his wife and son in the car. He splits into living in two different realities: one where his wife died but son survived and one where his son died but wife survived. Also, he’s a cop and he proceeds to solve cases using information from the opposite reality.
Very interesting twist on the police procedural. You spend the show trying to figure out which reality is the real one and which is just a dream.
Unfortunately, it was cancelled after only one season. Even so, the one season it got is pretty good, and I was happy with the ending it got. I recommend watching it.

Ugly Americans should have taken off more than it did, it's fantastic and always worth a re-watch because of all the background gags. It's like to horror what Futurama is to scifi.

Human Giant. Sketch show before Aziz/Paul Scheer/Rob Huebel were really big. You can barely find episodes or clips of it anywhere anymore. My friend and I could quote literally every sketch of every episode. So it feels like it was a vital and popular comedy of my late teens. But f****** nobody has ever heard of it.
"Corn maze" and "Kiditentiary/Kidcentration camp", the doritos commercial that nobody believed Paul about so he went back in time and was raped to death by dinosaurs, kids purposefully breaking their legs to get free tickets to ghostface killa concerts. "Old fashioned fun"
It's like it all never even existed.

Ugly Americans
It was great and so f****** weird. It's an animated series (only lasted two seasons) about a version of Manhattan in which magic, demons, zombies, werewolves, aliens -- really, most things you can imagine -- all lived together.
The show followed a human man living with a zombie roommate while working as a social worker helping non-humans in a variety of ways. He's dating a succubus coworker who also happens to be the daughter of Satan.
It's friggin great.

Counterpart is one of my all time favorite shows and nobody has ever heard about it. It's an amazing espionage thriller starring JK Simmons built on a really cool premise of parallel universes which were identical at the point of duplication during the cold war, but now 30 years later have butterfly-effected apart and are in a cold war of sorts with each other.
The idea of most of the main cast playing two characters who were the same person 30 years ago but have drifted apart creates the opportunities for some really high skill ceilings in acting talent and man did they deliver. Simmons in particular puts up such an amazing performance I can't believe this show didn't get any recognition.
I gush about this show to everyone I know and everyone who has gone on to watch it has come back to me raving about how good it was. It was unfortunately cancelled after season 2, but they had enough notice they were able to write a nice little wrap up so it's a great series to binge with only 20 episodes total.

There was an American show that was on South African television called “dear John.” It was about a guy who had been left by his lady, via a dear John letter and the theme song is burned into my mind.” I think I was like 10-13 years old and because it was the only tv we had back in the early 90’s I watched it….. I have never looked it up or heard of it again

Here are a few:
* The Ben Stiller Show. sketch comedy with Ben Stiller, Bob Odenkirk, Janeane Garofalo, Andy D***
* Now and Again. It's kind of a Robocop/Six Million Dollar man tv series where an insurance salesman dies and gets his brain put into a super body and then forcibly made into a secret agent asset.
* Miracles. starring Skeet Ulrich and Angus Macfayden. Kind of a catholic XFiles about oncoming apocalypse.
* Jim Henson's The Storyteller. Famous myths told via muppetry.
* Larry Sanders Show. sitcom around a fictional late show host played by Garry Shandling. costarring Rip Torn, Jeffrey Tambor, Janeane Garofalo, Jeremy Piven, and a ton of guest stars.
* A Town Called Panic. Robot Chicken-style stop motion french show with bizarre/amazing humor.
* We Are Lady Parts. comedy about british muslim women starting up a punk band.
* It's Your Move. starring jason bateman, david garrison, and caren kaye. creators of Married With Children did this show just prior to MWC. it's like spy-v-spy, where bateman is a teen conman type and garrison is an adult match for him; they have to match wits bc garrison moved in next door and is now dating bateman's mother.
* What's Alan Watching. starring Corin Nemec (before Parker Lewis Can't Lose) and exec-produced by Eddie Murphy. A bizarre sketch comedy-type show about a kid who is obsessed with tv and finds himself sucked in and living parts of the tv shows he's watching and imaginig his own life as a tv show. IIRC, only the pilot aired and never got picked up, but there are some hilarious bits in it, notably a scene where 2 black guys are standing on a street corner shouting "FREE JAMES BROWN!" and doing a dance vigil to attract attention.
* Vanishing Son. starring Russel Wong as a man searching for his missing brother. has the Fugitive/Kung Fu vibe to it.
* Kitchen Confidential the sitcom starring Bradley Cooper, John Cho, Nicholas Brendon, John Francis Daley, James King, Erin Hayes. Restaurant single cam sitcom that was uneven but starting to find itself just as it got canceled. Not super funny, but the chemistry and energy of the cast is great.

Hindsight
It follows Becca, who is on the eve of her second marriage when she gets sent 20 years into the past just before her first marriage. You stay in the 90s with younger Becca as she navigates the pratfalls (aka her own questionable decisions) that once led to the dissolution of her first marriage as well as the dissolution of her friendship with Lolly, her best friend. All amidst the backdrop of a killer 90s-era soundtrack.
It was picked up for a second season but got cancelled before they could film it, due to a regime change at VH1. Someday I will rewatch this show, and I will be so angry we never got a second season all over again.
