I liked him in the 80s, there is a thing he does though that once you notice its all you can see. Purse his lips and flash his eyes wide, go on watch one of his movies and see how often he does it

Friends and I used to do the McCarthy eyes for comedic effect in the 80s!

Jay Mohr nailed that in his impression.

He really doesn't have the lip real estate for pursing.

McCarthy casually mentioning Hughes tossed him the Ferris Bueller script on set, he told Hughes it was great, and then never watched the finished film out of resentment for not being cast — that's the most human thing in this entire piece.

I worked with him back in 2015 on a TV show where he was the director, and he was a super sweet, thoughtful guy. The only bad thing I can say about him is he thought the dress from the meme was white and gold and would not be convinced otherwise.

The one that's clearly blue and black?

Was he carrying a dead guy around?

That man is clearly alive, he's in active negotiations with his neighbor about selling a golf cart.

That dress always annoyed the c*** out of me because I know for an absolute fact that it was blue and black but when I would see that specific picture it legitimately looked like a white and gold dress with like a hint of blue in the white parts as if somebody washed it with a blue clothing item. I don't know why my eyes perceived it that way even though my brain knew my eyes were lying to me

"*When someone comes up to me about these films, they’re not really talking to me. They’re talking to their own youth, and I am the avatar of that. And I have come to understand that as the greatest professional gift of my life.*" John Cusack could learn from this.

He still hasn't gotten over being the white boy who got thrown out. A damn shame

huh, i never realised the brat pack moniker started off as negative.

McCarthy recently did a documentary on it and he went around talking to his peers about it and be seemed like the only one who ever really dwelled on it. In his mind, it typecast him but I just don’t think he was going to blow up otherwise.

Emilio seemed to be not happy about it. Judd Nelson wouldn’t even show up. I thought Demi Moore came across the best of everyone.

Rob Lowe for me. He didn’t like it either but he was positive about making the best of it and marketing himself with it instead of letting it be a negative.

Demi and Lowe both handled it gracefully and positively. They also had successful careers for a long time afterwards. I was hoping for some nostalgia but there was a lot of cringe.

I just wish he would stop blaming his post-Pretty in Pink career on the New York Magazine "Brat Pack" article. As he admits, the article was more about Penn, Cruise, Hutton, etc. who all went on to have great careers, including both commercial and critical success.

Well, there is a point there. He is right on the original article - but it didn’t matter - at the end of the day he and the others were labeled brat pack regardless of the origin, and not many used it really to refer to Cruise and Hutton beyond that article. The focus was on a core select.

That wig really was doing him no favors 💀

Why does the article repeat itself so much?
2
No-Philosopher3248 Apr 1, 2026 +3
Because people have short attention spans. They summarized the interview and then printed the whole interview.

dekogeko Apr 1, 2026
Yeah that tracks. I stopped reading after the summary.

I'm reading his book right now (about male friendship) and it actually has a lot of great insight.

He's a Richie. What does he know?

Andrew McCarthy screams of nepo-baby. He never really fit the brat pack. Someone had to have forced him in.

DJC_Kowalski Apr 1, 2026 +39
His parents were nobodies. I have no idea where nepo-baby comes from.

Brick_Mason_ Apr 1, 2026 +12
Nepotism? Is his father Charlie McCarthy?
12
SteveBorden Apr 1, 2026 +26
Joseph McCarthy, he actually started harassing communist members of the Brat Pack

Brick_Mason_ Apr 1, 2026 +17
Starting with that redhead Molly Ringwald!

After watching that documentary he did, I couldn’t help but feel bad for him Especially during his conversation with Demi Moore, it was just sad

Total dullsville.

You should check *Night of the Running Man* (1995). He's pretty good as a sweaty cab driver that stumbles into a fortune & then his life falls a part. It's kind of a D-Grade *No Country for Old Men* with Scott Glenn playing the Javier Bardem part.
