Sorry did they go from making a show about young kids investigating the supernatural in a small town to a show up retirees investigating the supernatural in a small town?

The Duffers are only EPs on this. They didn't write or direct any of it (or even come up with the story). It's by the 2 guys that made the Dark Crystal show from a few years ago. But fair enough thinking they have a particular running theme that seems to follow things they put their names on.

Just a weird direction to go after Stranger Things. So many creatives want to make a jump to avoid being "typecast", especially after spending years doing the same thing, but the Duffers just ran right back to the same well

They were EPs on Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen too

I guess we’ll have to wait and see what they do over at Paramount to know if they plan on exploring other types of stories.

So it’s just marketing?

It's put their name on it to get studio attention and collect a check. That's about it.

Holy Over-Simplification, Batman. EP titles are often given to people/organizations that give money to the project. The Duffer Brothers most likely helped get the proof of concept off the shelf by providing a seal of approval and some monetary support in which Netflix picked up the rest.

In other words, got the studio's attention and collected a check.

They didn't collect a check. They gave a check.

Bill Pullman is so great. He played the creepiest guy in Season 4 of Torchwood. While the season may not have been great, his character and his portrayal was fantastic.

occono Apr 14, 2026 +1
His character definitely hits different nowadays.

Absolutely stacked cast. I'd watch Alfrie Woodard read the dictionary.

Heh, glad I'm not the only one that was instantly reminded of that movie upon clicking play.

Retired people who discover stranger and stranger things going on in their little community.

Felis_bieti Apr 14, 2026 +1
That's some great insight there.

Joke all you like, that cast is stacked like Planet Costco. Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O'Hare, Clarke Peters, Bill Pullman, Jena Malone, and Ed Begley Jr? 100% in, thumbs up, yes please.

So, Stranger Things meets Cocoon, but it’s really just Body Snatchers.

I'll wait until 3-5 seasons under Netflix belt for any series since they either decide to cancel every good series after a season, or it takes them 3-4 years to produce seasons like stranger things.

I don't think this is going away soon. They've built that whole outdoor street on the lot at Netflix Albuquerque. Similar to the Pluribus set, but right on the lot. They didn't do that unless they expect it to go long.
