The Boys just pulled a "Glenn and the Dumpster" moment (Spoilers Season 5, Episode 3)

Posted by Wheres_MyMoney

Hughie should be a goner. A gone goner. A goner so gone, he could never be ungoned, even by >!Marie!<. There has been absolutely nothing to suggest that the crazy exploding girl was projecting force *at* something rather than exploding something internally, as the special effects suggest. The whole bunker scene was a mess. Hughie, MM, and no-light-power Starlight vs 4 fully powered supes adjacent to the Seven? Crazy exploding girl deserved better than getting Vampire Diaried by Starlight (who literally screamed behind her two seconds prior) after being around since Season 2. Awful, awful writing.

What? The figure that blew up was standing. Hughie wasn’t. It was immediately clear to viewers what happened.

At no point did I think he was dead or going to die. I didn't even think the viewers were supposed to think that, just Starlight.

It evidently wasn't immediately clear since Starlight, the girl STANDING IN THE ROOM with a direct line of sight to Hughie, didn't see it.

That was the point of the scene though. It was very very obvious it wasnt Hughie to th e viewer, But .... Not bare with me here, it wasnt obvious to a character off screen who odidnt see which one had died. Hence her callousness, her blank faced revenge showing how much she has gone from, peace loving save people or stand back and cry about it, to a do something bad ass who will kill people first ask questions later, who will save Frenchie first as he is more important. It reinforces the ... IDK, end final true stage of her character arc. \> It evidently wasn't immediately clear since Starlight, the girl STANDING IN THE ROOM with a direct line of sight to Hughie, didn't see it. She didnt have a direct line of site, didnt she come in just as it happened?

> peace loving save people or stand back and cry about it, to a do something bad ass who will kill people first Hopefully this is correct. I hate that it *seems* like "The Boys" is selling out its premise completely. "Supes" are bad, no matter how *good of people* those "supes" are. Making Starlight so sympathetic and heroic only works if *she also dies*. No Supes can be allowed, or *any* supe is potentially the end of mankind. The unflinching line between human and *not human*, is such an integral, foundational plank in this story, if they weaken/abandon that, it will be just another of the many series destroyed by its ending. Please don't let this be another GoT.

She was looking at Cindy. Viewers weren’t.

Eh it was fine. Hughie has plot armour because they need him for the finale. The Ryan scene was stupid though. He should have died

> He should have died why ? I initially thought the same, but he's a natural supe, from the most powerful supe, with *assumed* regenerative powers. There's no logic to him dying from a simple assault, no matter how grotesque it is. If Homelander had pulverized his cranium, and spread the resultant goo over a piece of toast and ate it, then *maybe* his character should have been "dead". But the scene as displayed, was a plain old beat down. I'm looking forward to seeing how the writers use that as psychological ammunition going forward.

Yeah. The small shudder he makes ruined what I thought was a WILD character death. I couldn’t believe they were gonna kill Ryan off was sorta excited to see what they would do with that as it would be so against trope.

Yeah. I don't mind a quick fakeout death for a gag mid episode like the Hughie one, but ending the episode on a fakeout death is just so c**** and lazy. Plus I don't care about Ryan that much so him being alive doesn't really do much for me. Tbh I felt the same about A-Train's near-death after Herogasm.

Soldier Boy is also still alive because of reasons.

Oh wait, did we not tell you? V1 makes you immortal. You may end up burnt and limbless like Stormfront but you definitely won't die unless it's by your own hand - er, tongue. At this point I'm just rolling with the ridiculousness. Turn into the skid, and all that. Let's see how far off the rails this whole thing can go!

It's not that V1 makes you immortal, it's the virus doesn't kill people with V1. The immortal part is specific to Homelander. He's already near indestructible; his only weaknesses are ageing and the virus, which the V1 will solve. That won't make others immortal other than probably Ryan or previously the rock guy.

Oh, I know. And I know this is probably just setting up Vought Rising and was a quick way for them to mention Stormfront again in the main storyline to remind folks she was one of the first Supes. It just struck me as funny that they're introducing immortality into the mix. To be clear, I don't hate the lunacy. I tune in to see just how nuts things are getting.

I agree. Gotta just embrace it. Kind of got sick of the low stakes a couple seasons ago where none of the important characters truly die.

I just find it hilarious and also really tragic that the Starlight actress has done so much butchery to her face that she now cant even move her face to do crying scenes properly anymore. These surgeries have now moved beyond theblevel of distracting to flat out affecting her ability to perform. 😕🤦

Y'all have talked about this woman's appearance ***to death***. Please find some new material. Holy F***.

The fact is its really hurting the show and my enjoyment though, as its affecting her ability to perform the role so it is important to discuss on a forum designed for discussion of the show. 🤷‍♂️

It seems like you're justifying a reason to be shallow

I'm convinced. The template for streamers to make shows **and make money** is, they hire actual writers for the 1st season for sure, then if there's more than one season, they whittle down the writers until in the final season, there are *no actual writers left*, and everything is just "fan driven" drivel. It has happened in pretty much every streamer based show I've liked at the start. I guess competent writers are very expensive ?

No this is just a media thing in general. It's far easier to start something and have a great concept that gets people interested than to execute an entire narrative that is cohesive from beginning to end. It's why many series in all of media across literature, to tv to films can grab attention but fall apart later or have a period in the middle that drags. Way too many people don't understand that it's not even about writer competency. Creativity just isn't something you flip on and off. The best writers on Earth have produced duds. In a more commoditized form like tv where you tell them "you have this deadline to produce this much story" you are going to put even more of a variable where they are likely to not come up with some brilliant move that makes everything work if it even could. The Boys is even funnier because it's a comic book adaptation where like 99% of it is just gratuitous violence and sexually humiliating super hero parodies for the writers entertainment with a light throughline that most became relevant at the very end of the story. The fact that the Boys actually had managed to tell a story through 5 seasons (even if season 3 dragged a bit because they couldn't kill the big bad right away) is kind of a miracle.

The did the c**** copout. But it's too be expected, the writing has taken another dumpster level hit this season. It's like they gave a 12 year old free range to curse.. Kimiko is just horrible... Then we have Frenchie the IDF soldier and now all of a sudden listnookors don't want to bring in real world politics in a show that has zionist writings and a zionist character that thinks they are being edgy and really giving it to the billionaires while its paid for and bought out by one of the richest people in the world, loved by people on a site that hate the thought of kings and people trampling your rights while also making sure no one goes against the kings and the majority of this site. Ok.cool.

true should have slimed frenchie long before, Kimiko was good shut. I reckon them dying in the first episode would had been a better pace for the show than A-Train, which was considerably a larger death.
