It’s unclear what happened in São Paulo. But our obsessive culture has created a fraught dance between stars and their fans

Nothing. If they’re out in the world being a human trying to live life. Nothing.

While I totally agree, fame and the money that comes along with it also comes with baggage. If you are unwilling to carry that baggage maybe you shouldn't pursue fame.

No, as is the case with any profession, we should work to consistently eradicate toxic elements. This baggage doesn’t need to be part of this profession.

I’m really good at my job, so I should suck it up and accept a reduction in living my life? O-Kay?

Maybe they dont owe their fans anything - but those that give to their fans will get more back. You wanna be a diffident celebrity who hates their fans publicly so you can pretend you have a normal life? Go for it. You want to embrace your fans in public bcyou understand thats part of your life now? Go for it. Somewhere in the middle? More power to you.

Nothing, and there’s something wrong with someone who thinks celebrities owe their fans attention and don’t deserve their own private lives.

Owe? Nothing. But there’s good and bad with every job- in this case the trade off of making millions and being a household name is *woah* the household wants to say hey when they leave the house.

It might be controversial, but celebrities owe the public A LOT. The public is what they were seeking in the beginning, before they became famous; the public is also the reason why they’re making a shitload of money. I never understood the «put celebrities on a pedestal » thing, but let’s be real: fans will want to interact with you. I’m not saying to have to be swarmed by people on every outing, but just a polite smile and a « I’m with friends and family, not today »or something goes a long way. I saw some videos of celebrities at conventions, where they were paid to sign stuff for fans, basically ignoring them. It was gross. All jobs come with a cost. They voluntarily chose to be in the public eye. I don’t see them complaining about the money. 🙄 People falling over themselves to defend them being rude to fans while celebrities wouldn’t even throw them a glass of water if they were on fire is pathetic.

Zero. People need to stop putting celebrities on pedestal.

They wouldn’t have a platform and wealth if we did that.

Ok and?

There wouldn’t be celebrities. Yay.

Fans aren’t owed anything, but without us, they wouldn’t be where they are. You need your fans listening to your music, watching your movies & TV Shows. When you want to be in that industry, that’s what comes with it and there’s quite a few of them out there that have no tact at all.

Someone tell Lindsey Vaughn that she can stop promoting everything she does.

Literally take the rough with the smooth or gtfo the kitchen. Nobody asking you to carry on doing what you’re doing if you don’t like what comes with it. You make something intended for public consumption and then are surprised that same public want to show their appreciation… Honestly without the fans you’d have no career so be grateful or gtfo.

With great power comes greater responsibility... so to me celebrities owe their fans to use their power for good, not for evil. but that's about it.

Hasn't this been the "bigger question" since the first time she didn't let some media person talk down to her or whatever? Wouldn't a bigger question of this specific incident be about how a whole lot of people will be infinitely more outraged by Chappell Roan's security telling some rich kid to move along than they are by any celebrity committing actual crimes? Some soccer player could beat their wife and kids and everyone could know about it and I doubt the mayor of a city would try and ban them from their city.

We have a big problem with people willing to look the other way because their dopamine fix is more important than anything else. Some guy around the block can beat his wife and people are lock "Lock that POS up". Someone famous they really like? "It's not really my business to get into the personal life of my favorite celebrity". "We need to learn to separate the art from the artist" I have no idea why people are more softer to people that are famous than they are to some random person.

A bodyguard having no tact makes more sense to me than Chappell Roan telling her security to harass children.

A celebrity disliking her own fame and fans disliking her fans seems a bit more likely, no?

Wasn't her bodyguard
