It doesn’t have him. But it does have a Chinese guy with a bald cap under his Jeff hair.

No, sadly. It does have Jakpo, but there's no fight to the death in this one.
I think this is much closer to the source material than the Caviezel/Pearce/Guzman/Cavil movie version was (even though that was a fun film).

While no Guzman I did enjoy Michele Riondino's portrayal of Jacopo. It definitely illustrates the closer relationship they had.

Interesting to compare the TV series with the movie version. The movie plots were more concise and better explained of who Edmund wanted to get revenge. The scenes were also more lush and expansive such as the first appearance of the Count. The series went into great detail about who the count wanted to get even with but it became confusing at times. A constant comment we had when watching the series when a character showed up was “who is that, what is their relationship to Edmund”. As others have mentioned, the series Edmund was pretty wooden with only three faces: smiling, serious looking, and thinking. The love interest in the movie was drop dead gorgeous, the TV series, I would call her a “handsome” woman but nothing to write home about. Finally in the TV series they missed a chance about who the real father of her so son was. The movie picked this up as a nice twist. We watched the whole series but by the end, it was unfulfilling.

Watched the show and then the movie back to back. The movie was far more charming but it was rushed.. the show was a lot darker and the revenge plots definitely simmered longer. Some of it was just diabolical. I think the show was better but it did drag on towards the end

The whole show aired.
It’s fine. The acting can be wooden, they didn’t transform Dantes enough to explain how all these people who had critical intersections in their lives with him could completely miss the resemblance. They explained some implied scenes and it eroded some of the mystery around the Count, and that didn’t make the story stronger.

The whole show aired everywhere except the US. It's available in full if you subscribe to PBS Passport but didn't start airing on broadcast TV until this past Sunday, even though PBS acquired it ~10 months ago.

It doesn't matter. Dumas was writing serials, just like Dickens.
I spreed through his ouvre in high-school, with the exception of _Queen Margot_ which wasn't so accessible in the US before the movie. Monte Christo blew my 17 y/o mind and I've hated every film adaptation I've ever seen.

It's one book, originally published in 18 volumes, sometimes published in between 1 and 5 volumes. I think the most popular edition was 2 parts.

One of my favourite adaptations of the novel along with Gankutsuo and the French miniseries from the 90s. The Richard Chamberlain film was also great.
The recent French film wasn't that good and anything is better than the 02 Hollywood version.

I thought the French film was fine. I wish it had a more of a gritty look to it, and a bit more graphic with the violence, but I liked it overall.

I liked it too but they made a bit too many changes for no reason and you could tell certain characters and events had been 'updated' to fit the sensibilities of modern audiences.

If you don’t have the PBS subscription and are relying on your local PBS channel, be sure to record or watch as it comes up each week
The only on demand I was able to find is for the paid PBS Masterpiece package

Because that is less problematic than him being together with a 19 year old slave that he freed and raised as his daughter from the age of 13 on?

Meh its like a simpleton version. Too much explanation at every step, no nuance, Mercedes is completely off, and the show misses swaths from the book. No epic backdrops, everything feels very c****, hell even the tavern scenes in ep 1 have no backdrop extras. This is grammar school quality show.

of all the adaptations i enjoyed this one the most and i am very picky usually. given, it is no 'hornblower' or 'master and commander' but it spoke to me. would not mind if there was something like this about 'robinson crusoe'. yes, i read all the novels and maybe the 'simpleton' version can be good sometimes too?

It aired in multiple countries like a year ago or more. It’s just been VERY slow getting to the US.

Utterly asinine comment. What is it with people trying to discourage actual discussion in these types of subreddits? That thread was over a year ago and is archived, it's perfectly reasonable to start a new one considering the show is airing fresh in America for the first time.
