I have no idea why but this scene really has stuck with me through the years. Like, he realizes who The Crow really is and then "this is the really REAL world" line.

And the level of acting he puts into it is perfect. The way the characters voice trembled and breaks as he panics. It works on so many levels. The realization of who Eric is. T-Birds inevitable, immediate approaching demise. And worst of all, the confirmation that if a supernatural being like The Crow exist....what's awaiting him on the other side of death?

David Patrick Kelly is very underrated as a villain in many 1980s/90s movies. He was solid in 48 hours, Dreamscape, The Warriors, Commando and many others.

Most importantly, Ghostwriter!

MCE85 Mar 24, 2026 +1
Warriors was good

greg_barton Mar 22, 2026 +6
Not equaled in a superhero noir flick until Boyd Holbrook's "no..." in [Logan](https://youtu.be/600nKMJOozo?si=D7fba9jAAcENBtLF&t=92).

riddick32 Mar 23, 2026 +2
That's actually a really good explanation. He now knows there's SOMETHING and he would have to attone for his transgressions.

MuNansen Mar 22, 2026 +2
ditto

Ohigetjokes Mar 22, 2026 +39
lol that sound design… classic 90s. Always thought T-Bird’s performance was the best in this movie. Good villain.

runnerofshadows Mar 23, 2026 +6
T birds actor was also great in the warriors, commando, and dreamscape https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Patrick_Kelly

Live_Celebration374 Mar 23, 2026 +3
Yeah, I don't know what you call it - but its definitely very '90's'. 'The Boondock Saints' has a similar vibe.
3
MandomRix Mar 23, 2026 +1
What's 90s about this sound design?
1
Ohigetjokes Mar 23, 2026 +1
Biggest examples off the top of my head were the punch sound “WHPEH!!”, the distorted crow vision “beeerowbeerow!”, the explosion sound that’s the same one from the original Doom 2 when the boss shoots a cube “shhpowaaaahhh!”… and overall it’s just so goddamn loud lol
1
MandomRix Mar 23, 2026 +1
I wasn't sure what the trademark 90's sound was! I'm going to try to keep it in mind the next time I watch Last Action Hero
1
MuNansen Mar 22, 2026 +21
Watching this makes me realize why when it comes to stylish revenge flicks, John Wick didn't land as strongly for me as it did for many. Yeah Wick has the gun-fu choreography, but it's also ABOUT the gun-fu choreography. The gun action in The Crow had DRAMA. And how much more believable is a suit that follows the physics laws of Vibranium than reincarnation, anyway? I don't wanna shit on Wick, but I am recognizing why Crow did more for me. Plus stuff like this is always cooler when you're younger.

Interestingly, One of the Director's for John Wick, Chad Stahelski, was a stunt double for Brandon Lee on "The Crow", and was the stand-in for some of the remaining shots in the film after Brandon Lee's death. He went on to create a successful stunt/action studio that helped a lot of films of the late 90's early 00's, which then sprawled off into a production company later on, creating a few successful movies. John Wick was the start of their careers in directing/producing movies. Reeves and a few other people in hollywood saw the script for John Wick and wanted to make it, but no studio wanted to take it, so it got passed on to stunt coordinators and friends, Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, and decided to take on the task of directing their first movie..which apparently was a successful but painful production. There is a documentary about the films.

runnerofshadows Mar 23, 2026 +8
David Patrick Kelly aka t bird also plays a cleaner in 2 of the John Wick movies.

I think another thing I admire about 'The Crow'(and older films like it) is the set design. A lot of these films have these set designs and lighting that feels very lived in and real while still being very much unreal. ['Alien'](https://youtu.be/UBew0PVtaus?t=358) also has tremendous set design that you don't really see in modern films. Even [music videos like 'Smooth Criminal'](https://youtu.be/WNyb7W9QXpc?t=43) have incredible set design and lighting you just don't really see today. It somehow feels like a place that doesn't actually exist while still feeling like a place that actually does exist somewhere - but not anywhere you've ever been.

runnerofshadows Mar 23, 2026 +6
The Burton Schumacher Batman movies and Dark City have similarly great sets
6
Soggy_End5789 Mar 23, 2026 +2
yeh I think this movie hits different if you were an angsty teen/ young adult when it came out. If it finds you at the right age it sticks with you the rest of your life. Great movie. One of my top 5 movies with one of my Top 5 songs, Burn by the Cure, this movie actually turned me into a huge The Cure fan.

TheElvisMan Mar 22, 2026 +20
I f**king love that look of terror that comes across his face realizing it’s Eric

"It seems our friend T-Bird won't be joining us this evening on account of a slight case of death."
10
riegspsych325 Mar 22, 2026 +9
real question here, how do people post autoplaying clips that have no loss in quality, no watermarks, or no editing gaffs? And where do they even get these clips? Half of them can’t even be found on youtube or at least not completely (like the Raising Arizona robbery/dog/police chase) and all screen recording apps black out anything from streaming sites
9
artpayne Mar 22, 2026 +9
They download the movie or use a Blu-ray, cut the parts themselves, and post.
9
dkinmn Mar 22, 2026 +9
Eagle eyed millennials may recognize T-Bird from his guest spot on Ghostwriter.
9
UnifiedQuantumField Mar 22, 2026 +15
Oldies like me remember him as "Bottle-clinking Guy" from The Warriors.
15
CalmDownSahale Mar 22, 2026 +3
OH DAMN, that's a cool bit of trivia
3
Polluxtroy55 Mar 23, 2026 +3
People who like to watch mediocre remakes like me will remember him as Unger from The Longest Yard(2005).
3
UnifiedQuantumField Mar 23, 2026 +1
> The Longest Yard(2005). More recently, he was in one of the John Wick films... as the leader of a "cleanup crew" (he gets paid with a gold coin)
1
PleaseNinja Mar 23, 2026 +2
Or Sully from Commando
2
Ant_Eye_Art Mar 23, 2026 +2
He was also the villain in the film Dreamscape which I used to love until Dennis became an insufferable maga idiot. I can’t watch him or his brother in anything nowadays. So it goes.
2
runnerofshadows Mar 23, 2026 +1
Also villain from Dreamscape and Sully from Commando.

Rossco1874 Mar 23, 2026 +1
WTF how have I seen both these films multiple time & never realised this.

I still say "What's this happy horseshit?" And then promptly get hit by a Yugo...

FireTheLaserBeam Mar 22, 2026 +2
Then the guy beats him up even more. "Ya stupid ass head!"
2
Dragishawk Mar 23, 2026 +4
Think that was meant to be "asshair."
4
FireTheLaserBeam Mar 22, 2026 +1
Me and a few friends still shout, "Fire it up! Fire it up!"
1
FireTheLaserBeam Mar 22, 2026 +6
Me and my buddy saw this in a theater in Fort Myers when it came out. We were freshman in high school. Towards the end of the movie, the lightning and thunder was REALLY loud and you could feel the whole theater rumble and shake. I told my buddy this theater had great sound. Then when the movie was over and we left the theater, the sky was pitch black, the wind was howling, and it was raining and thundering like crazy. When we went in, it was a bright blue sky. Florida weather for you. Still, it was awesome at the end, and even more bizarre and unsettling walking into the stormy weather after finishing the movie.

MuNansen Mar 22, 2026 +5
Love how "what the c***?!" is used twice in this movie.
5
PleaseNinja Mar 23, 2026 +6
David Patrick Kelly is one of the most underappreciated character actors
6
Dude_be_trippin Mar 23, 2026 +4
"Bangin away on Darla!" And "I ain't Skank, Skank dead, Skank over dere." Are two of my favorite movie lines.

Halloween is only happening manyana.

*The f*** you all painted up for, crackhead, huh? Halloween ain't until mañana* [scene](https://youtube.com/shorts/bBowPZqOXBs) Sorry that movie is in the long term storage space of my brain forever…. Just like the sad little *fire it up* T-Bird does that almost makes you feel empathy for him. Edit added scene link

LupinThe8th Mar 22, 2026 +8
> Sorry that movie is in the long term storage space of my brain forever To this day The Crow forms a large part of what my mind thinks the word "cool" means. Somewhere in the crevices on my brain it *can* rain all the time.

Goodbye_Games Mar 22, 2026 +5
I loved the cinematography of it. That “film noir” look from movies like the crow or dark city were what I was looking for when I flashed over the covers of VHS and DVD cases at the video store. Seeing something that caught your attention and the cursory glance of the jibber jabber on the back made you grab it and keep looking for that next hidden gem. This is where I got such titles as la cité des enfants perdus (The City of Lost Children 1995) a truly amazing film with Ron Perlman in it, and it still to this day doesn’t disappoint!
5
D34THDE1TY Mar 22, 2026 +2
Yea that line is seared into memory.
2
Goodbye_Games Mar 22, 2026 +3
When he played in hackers I couldn’t keep the line from rolling in my brain each scene he had.
3
zalurker Mar 22, 2026 +1
I remember watching the movie on a Thursday afternoon, the last day it was showing. I think there were only 3 other people in the small theater, off to the side from the larger ones. I remember walking out and looking at the crowd getting ready to watch some random blockbuster, and thinking 'Poor idiots. They're missing out on a future classic'.
1
HumOfEvil Mar 22, 2026 +10
Why do people do this? Just post clips of films without context or any conversation starts? Is it a bot thing?
10
Jonjongabore Mar 22, 2026 +20
On a sidenote; If you haven't seen it, you should watch it. One of my favorite movies. Still gets a watch once a year or so.
20
MaxSchreckArt616 Mar 22, 2026 +8
I highly recommend the comic/graphic novel too for anyone that hasn't had a chance to read it yet.

Every October 30th

Goodbye_Games Mar 22, 2026 +5
Agreed…. Just be cautious of the “sequels”. I’ve always been curious about where Lee would be now if he hadn’t died. Would he have taken a lot of Keanu’s work as some have suggested, or would he have gone through the 90’s as an actor and moved more towards a family and martial arts career that I remember him mentioning in interviews.
5
runnerofshadows Mar 23, 2026 +1
Yeah. If you want more crow then the comics are your best bet. Also city of Angels is a good story if you read the novelization, get the comic adaptation, or find one of the fan edits that makes it more like the directors cut.
1
HumOfEvil Mar 22, 2026 +2
Oh I've seen it, its great.
2
riegspsych325 Mar 22, 2026 +8
because posting a youtube link doesn’t get as much engagement as an autoplaying video
8
duckduckpajamas Mar 22, 2026 +9
I'm not a bot. Why do people share clips of movies on the movies sub? It's just one of my favorite movies. The rules of the sub say it has to be at least 1 minute, include the year/director and context/description.
9
HumOfEvil Mar 22, 2026 -19
Well yeah, what are you sharing that clip for? Is it to highlight something you like? Something you don't? Something funny? Without context I just don't see the point.
-19
duckduckpajamas Mar 22, 2026 +13
Well I grew up watching this movie and was obsessed with it. I was 10 when it came out. I dressed up as the crow for Halloween. I was rewatching it today and thought I would post it here for other movie people. I can only put so much info on the title. I figured a full paragraph for a title wouldn't go over very well lol sorry if I missed some sub etiquette or something

Ant_Eye_Art Mar 23, 2026 +5
My brother’s band is one of the two bands that appear in the film. They even have their own trading card from the film. Here’s an interesting fun fact: my brother coincidentally made an album almost a decade after this film with Shannon Lee as the lead singer. Crazy to work with both of Bruce’s kids.
5
XB1MNasti Mar 22, 2026 +4
I don't think he needs context for the scene, and I think quite a few people agree. It's a great scene from a great movie that I haven't seen in a long while... I need to make my kids watch it. Lol

MINUTI1804 Mar 22, 2026 +2
Nolan stole that fire trick.

The_souLance Mar 23, 2026 +4
Dont forget the Ben Affleck Daredevil scene
4
MINUTI1804 Mar 23, 2026 +1
I never saw that one. Should I?
1
The_souLance Mar 25, 2026 +1
Lol, nah, you're missing nothing
1
Rossco1874 Mar 23, 2026 +2
Love this film & am so glad they decided never to make any sequels or tv shows to dampen how good this film is.
2
Traxe33 Mar 23, 2026 +2
"Big Empty" by STP always triggers memories of this scene (and the "After the Flesh" by My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult). The Crow is one of my favorite movies - aesthetics, tone, acting, pace, music... everything about this movie is stellar. I knew David Patrick Kelly was familiar when I saw him in this movie and it wasn't until 10+ years later that I learned he was the "Warriors.... come out to play-a" actor. Love seeing him in anything he does; he's always top notch.
2
SaltyTigerBeef Mar 24, 2026 +2
“This is the really real world” is still a line I use to this day
