The Ending of Beef

Posted by OkDifficulty1316

Spoilers: was I the only one watching thinking 1) what the hell happened to Eunice an 2) why the hell are we watching this billionaire get away with it and wax philosophically about life at the end? She killed multiple people and we need to hear what she thinks about life as though she is just some wise old woman? The f*** is up with this ending? Also: it’s not like the white lotus it’s like Parasite without the Korean bite.

1) Probably dead :( I've seen people theorize that when Austin calls Eunice in the Taxi, because she says 'tell me which police station you'll go to and I'll come to you' even though him going to where she is would be much quicker and simpler, she is already in the hands of the chairwoman (or one of her subordinates), forced to comply to get rid of the remaining evidence. The news Lindsay watches confirms that the chairwoman was never exposed, and seeing how the chairwoman deals with loose ends (killing Woosh and Kim, attempting to stage Josh's suicide), she's as good as dead at the end of the show. 2) A failed attmpt at a profound ending. I'm suspecting they wanted to give the chairwoman some humanity/vulnerability, since throughout the show she's this unfeeling, unstoppable force of capitalism. In the end, she's still human, unhappy and bending to the natural order of things that even money cannot buy. It's very abrupt, and while I aprecciate the final imagery(the wheel of samsera, how everyone is doomed to go through these familiar beats of life) and the acting(the line delivery in Korean was a masterclass in portraying sadness), the overall season would have been better wrapped up if it cut to credits after we see Lindsay still thinking of Josh in the bathroom(Or maybe not, that last episode was a mess).

I’m willing to bet that part of Austin’s agreement to save the chairwoman would have been to spare Eunice. Even though he ultimately chose the route he did, there’s no way he’d go from head over heels for her to f****** her over.

So am I completely crazy to think the chairwoman poisoned herself and died on the final shot? My girlfriend and I were both under this belief because of how long it panned out for without her really moving.

i thought it was a great ending. Yes, the woman still is alive and has her billions, but she's suffering, just like everyone else. And the rich suffer in comfort, just like they do everything else in a way that's shielded from the reality that us normies have to deal with.

Thank God the bad people win. Hollywood tripe and cliche character arcs are so boring. Loved seeing Park portrayed as the wise w***** at the end. So realistic.

I mean how they got there didn’t seem realistic at all. It seemed forced and rushed. “Tell me you had five days to film in Seoul without telling me you had five days to film in Seoul”. And to do it with little or no real solid or clear social critique seemed like bad writing to me. They needed ten episodes to me. And more stuff in Korea.

Clown(s) downvoted you, but the reality is that the ending was really bad.

The last episode was really, really bad. Definitely the low point of the series. Way too chaotic and felt like they tried to resolve **and introduce** too much at once. Felt very performative and pandering. Fell totally flat on its face. I was cringing at the end with the speech my Chairman Park. Why would anyone have sympathy for her or care what she has to say? I get it, bad guys win. That's the lesson I'm learning here? Great. First half of the last episode: Chairman Park is covering up a death and this is a super big deal and we need to expose her and risk our lives doing so. BTW I love you Eunice. Last quarter of the last episode: Lmao who cares. Let's have a baby even though we don't love each other. Eunice? Never heard of her. Austin's arc made absolutely zero sense. He went from Well-meaning doofus -> Concerned about his relationship and putting up with his fiancée's antics -> Gets super honest with his fiancée and puts into real terms the severity of her behavior and why she's not really in love with him, which lands with Ashley -> Risks it all with Eunice -> Throws everything away on a whim because apparently Ashley is the only person he can have a baby with. Both of them resign to a life of misery because reasons??? Enjoyed the season overall but wowww that last episode was so f****** awful.
