That is true....in this case, attacking leaders of a country not just once, but twice during negotiations and killing them all is the cause of this war. It reached the point where so many were killed, there is no way to properly negotiate due to not knowing who is in command and mistrust of safe negotiations.

Then Trump comes along and tears up the nuclear deal. In the following election, voter turnout is only 48%, and the anti-Western (and pro-Russian...) hardliners win a comfortable victory with 61%. It’s pretty obvious that US simply crushed the Iranian people’s hopes and literally proved the Iranian hardliners right: The West—and especially the U.S.—can’t be trusted when it comes to agreements, so why bother.
