The Gentlemen (2024-) on Netflix is such a cool show.

Posted by Boss452

I didn't expect to like this show as much as I do now. It's basically like a GTA story if it was set in England with a main plot consisting of a bunch of smaller side hustles each episode involving criminals and aristocrats. Kaya Scodelario is in top form here and steals every scene. Theo James is a very able lead and Daniel Ings is nice too as the incapable brother. One of my favorite parts of the show is the look of it. It's beautifully shot with the bizarre editing style of a Guy Ritchie film and shot in gorgeous locations such as the Manor House. You get characters wearing some awesome clothing and driving awesome cars. The writing is also witty at times although not as slick as for the movie with the same title also directed by Guy Ritchie. There are a couple of episodes which drag a bit but overall the first season was kind of breezy at 8 episodes. Not the smartest show out there but if you want good vibes and gorgeous visuals, then this show is a must watch.

I'm impatiently waiting for another season. I really enjoyed this.

Same. Can't wait to fantasize being a lord, owning a gorgeous Manor and driving a Land Rover for a couple of weeks.

You would need to be a Lord to afford the maintenance on the Rover.

The Movie was amazing as well

Colin Farrell in that film is the definition of maximising your screentime. Think he’s only in four or five scenes, but he utterly steals every scene he’s in.

Its funny because he's the first person I think of when in I think of that movie.

“Cmon make it funny. Make it pop.” “F***. You.” “… jeeze that’s disappointing.”

That movie sent me down the Farrell rabbit hole, and introduced me to one of my favorite movies in Seven Psychopaths. People always talk about In Bruges and the other movie whose name I can't recall off the top of my head, something with 'banshee' in it, but those two didn't catch me the same Seven Psychopaths did. >"That's just f****** great! You know what that is?" >"Yeah." >"You know what that is?!" >"Great." >"THATS JUST F****** GREAT!"

Sam Rockwell is fantastic in everything he's in but I think that's his best movie , maybe popped to the post with moon but psychopaths is a personal favourite of mine

I’d say movie was a lot better than the show!

Show is way better than the movie

It is really fun but the ending felt so rushed, like they crammed three worth of episodes into the last one Ray Winstone and Vinnie Jones are also worth a mention, it’s their kind of roles

Interestingly enough, just watched Young Sherlock also by Guy Ritchie and I had the exact same complaint. Too many locations, big events, and moments crammed into the end.

oh shit i didnt realise that was out.

bobrobor Mar 29, 2026 +1
Young Sherlock is disappointing and underwhelming. Ritchie must have been asleep and some monkey got to the seat… And his hallmark dialogue is just pathetic in this show. I say it as a great admirer of his work. And it pains me.
1
Sprangz Mar 29, 2026 +6
Ritchie only directed the first two episodes and wrote none of them. He did the same with The Gentlemen TV show actually but wrote the first two as well as directed.
6
bobrobor Mar 30, 2026 +1
That explains it. Too bad. Though somehow The Gentlemen retained his flair and genius
1
Sprangz Mar 30, 2026 +2
Yeah it really captured his style throughout.

narkina5redemption Mar 29, 2026 +2
It's not that bad. The mystery was interesting and I found it fun. Didn't go in with any expectations though.

As a big fan of Guy Ritchie's previous works, this was delightful romp which I almost missed because I don't follow his work closely at all. If you like his previous stuff you should enjoy this.

Srg11 Mar 29, 2026 +6
I’ve not watched it yet and usually it wouldn’t interest me at all, but Young Sherlock on Prime is Guy Ritchie so it’s on my list for that reason alone.

MobiusDie Mar 29, 2026 +3
I'll be honest, I haven't seen any of his "newer" stuff besides this. So it reminds me of his older movies, so I can't definitely say it has the same feel as Sherlock... Hell, I didn't know Young Sherlock was Guy, so now I gotta look at that 😂

A fair warning. It has some elements of Ritchies work but there are multiple reasons its rated low on iMDB. We are barely in our thirties with my partner and we felt 20 years too old for the show.

DocDerry Mar 29, 2026 +26
Daniel Ings has been a positive add in everything I've seen him in.

He was my favourite part of the show

Brownie_McBrown_Face Mar 30, 2026 +1
He was by far my favorite part of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which is saying a lot since the casting was fantastic top to bottom

It really does feel like “aristocratic GTA” and somehow that’s exactly why it works. It knows it’s a little ridiculous, but it’s dressed so well and moving with so much confidence that you just go with it. What I like is that it doesn’t try to be prestige TV in the gloomy, joyless sense. It’s stylish, sharp, unserious in the right places, and full of people acting like crime is just another branch of estate management. That contrast is half the fun. One minute it’s tweed and inheritance, the next minute it’s “well this has escalated aggressively.” And yeah, Kaya Scodelario has that dangerous calm that makes every scene feel like it could either turn seductive or violent with almost no warning. Very Guy Ritchie universe trait. I think that’s why people are responding to it: not because it’s the deepest show ever made, but because it actually understands entertainment. Good-looking people, beautiful locations, absurd criminal logistics, witty dialogue, and enough swagger to make the whole thing feel like a live-action cologne ad with felonies.

>a live action cologne ad with felonies. Pure poetry.

Ooof you really distilled and conveyed everything that makes this show wonderful. The characters are truly memorable too! I'll never forget that chicken scene.

Michael Vu as Jimmy Chang is an iconic character that I quote all the time.

I thought the ending was pretty weak for a Guy Ritchie. Overall enjoyed it though

Mob Land is good too

Phreakdoubt Mar 29, 2026 +2
Better, for my money. But I like competency p*** and Hardy's Harry De Souza is inarguably portrayed as VERY good at his job. It's much more "low-life Succession" than Ritchie's other work though and leans away from most of the gangster comic pantomime that he usually (especially in The Gentlemen) peddles.

stewy23 Mar 29, 2026 +4
Agree 100% It's a fun show with actors who are committed to their roles, even if the writing is a bit unserious. It's shot well and everything looks great. It's also the first time I have ever said "pause this, I need to Google that jacket."

Susie Glass walking out of the manor after the night drinking with the travelers is so damn funny.

If someone were to want to watch, movie or series first? I was confused when I saw the series and a movie of the same title on Netflix
3
Boss452 Mar 29, 2026 +3
They are unrelated. Some plot details are similar as is the tone but otherwise no connection.
3
despoglee Mar 30, 2026 +2
Both are excellent. They have a similar premise but entirely different characters and the plot unfolds in a completely different way. Watch whichever one you like first.

Great first season, feel like it’s an actual underrated show since many probably have never heard of it

seancbo Mar 29, 2026 +8
I really wanted to like it, but it just got *too* Guy Ritchie for me. Like everyone is so smug and always ahead of each other to the point where it just irritated me.

Season 2 is coming later this year I think

keepfighting90 Mar 30, 2026 +2
Super fun show, and it convinced me that Theo James would make a killer James Bond. He has the suave charisma and charm, and he's pretty convincing in action scenes

One-Earth9294 Mar 29, 2026 +2
Is it good? I remember watching the Snatch show and was incredibly disappointed. I guess I just expected more of that. But I'd be interested in this if it's not... that lol.

Boss452 Mar 29, 2026 +2
This is definitely good. Has respectable ratings everywhere. I suggest to watch the first ep. You will get a flavor

Anyone feel like the Netflix show was trying too hard to be cool? To me it felt like a show trying to reproduce lock stock Whatever, I still watched it and would recommend.

bahumat42 Mar 29, 2026 +1
I mean ritchie was involved in the show (I think directing multiple episodes). And it would not be unfair to say he has gone back to that well many times.

Accomplished_End_843 Mar 29, 2026 +1
The GTA comparison is one I Immediately made too. I think if there’s ever a movie adaptation of that franchise, we’d know who to call lol
1
RJWolfe Mar 29, 2026 +2
It's alright. It lost steam by the end and turned into a weird muddle of events.
2
boblazaar Mar 29, 2026 +1
It's so much better than the movie. I sailed the high seas for the movie and felt like I was still owed my money back.
