The retro style is rad.

I miss it. I also miss that sort of weird, inaccessible, cerebral vibe from the movie. However that is apparently quite different from the original manga. I hear the manga is a little less serious than the film turned out to be.

My understanding is that the manga is very classic cyberpunk, whereas the movie redefined the thematic elements of cyberpunk.

It’s actually a very faithful adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s art style from the original Ghost in the Shell manga, first published in 1989.

Going back to it's original manga roots, very nice. It's about time.

Based on the images I’m curious if they are doing a straight up adaptation of the manga. While I’ve always loved all of the animated versions of GITS, I’ve always loved the original manga and its meandering storyline. The world building as a result of that pace was really amazing and I’ve always wondered if it could be pulled off

Science Saru was absolutely the correct studio choice IMO.

The teaser music slaps. I think the visuals look great.

What the heck, this is great news. Will have to rewatch Arise in the meantime!

This looks incredible. The original film is one of my favourite films all time, but I never read the original manga. Im really looking forward to this even if its completely different to the gits I love.

Holy shit, a brand new GUNM anime with this quality animation would be a f****** dream

Feels weird to reboot instead of continuing SAC

Def-tones Mar 28, 2026 +2
F*** yeah. This and the Marathon game, feels like future.

This will be my first time watching GiTS, glad it'll be the manga accurate version. Hope it gets dubbed.

I just can't get behind the art choice. The weird faces of 2045 were bad too, but this one is just anathema to how I've always seen the IP. There are ways to do retro that still look cyberpunk/mature/dystopian/transhuman, but this just looks too much like kodomomuke for me.[](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Kodomomuke)

It’s..literally Masamune Shirow’s art style. Yknow. The guy who created the manga everything was based on?

Having grown up with the original Ghost in the Shell and Stand Alone Complex this is looking like a step backwards to me even though it is more faithful to the original manga. I'm still gonna watch it and there's a very good chance that I'm going to enjoy it.

FoundPizzaMind Mar 28, 2026 -3
Mixed. A bit too inconsistent for me. There are some shots that just feel too cartoony where some shots look great. May have been better off sticking with the SAC look.
-3
thundercat2000ca Mar 28, 2026 +5
I think this is an adaptation of the original manga, which is very different from the movie and SAC.

I'm confused, that isn't Scarlett Johansson?

MountainMongrel Mar 28, 2026 -34
I do not like the art direction here. GitS shouldn't be that cartooney
-34
VeiledMalice Mar 28, 2026 +34
I could not disagree more. This is literally art from the original manga.

wanderer1999 Mar 28, 2026 +14
This actually the og style from the author. We had serious Major for the last 20 years already. Time for a funny but still badass one.
14
MountainMongrel Mar 28, 2026 -4
Serious Major Kusanagi is one of the founding pillars of current Cyberpunk. I'll die on this particular hill.
-4
Elgato01 Mar 28, 2026 +3
Sure, that’s separate from this though.

Coolman_Rosso Mar 28, 2026 +8
This art direction is right out of the original manga, which was also pretty comedic. The comedic elements were largely dropped from the movie and TV adaptations so I hope they do more with that here

MountainMongrel Mar 28, 2026 -15
I said what I said and I meant it.

It's ok to be wrong sometimes.

I may be, but I stand by it.

bmxbaddy Mar 28, 2026 -26
well, I'm glad to get more ghost in the shell, but I hope it's better than it looks from this trailer
-26
Coolman_Rosso Mar 28, 2026 +19
The aesthetic here is much more in line with the original manga, so I'm pretty pumped

shiftingtech Mar 28, 2026 +8
I'll take this over that terrible looking netflix version!
